Of course not, but thats not what you stated.

Not sure I know who White at Melbourne is.

We've recruited Johnston and Lynch, who were former first rounders. I'd rather both over Dawes right now.

Any thoughts on Brisbane losing Clark & Henderson, replacing the talls with Lisle?

And what clubs in the last two years have recruited a load of stars?

(To answer a previous qtn, 9 clubs lost players to expansion sides, 7 did not)
Error with White, I meant Clark. Henderson was traded to get Fevola so not even relevant.

Lynch and LJ weren't getting a game, silly comparison.

Why are you limiting losing players to only the last two years and only stars? The key is securing quality first choice players.

Sydney got Tippett.
Hawthorn over recent years have secured Gibson, Gunston and Lake.
Collingwood Ball and Jolly.
Geelong Rivers and Caddy who was highly sought after.
Essendon Goddard.

Of those 9 clubs how many lost two players?

Facts are no club has lost the talent we have over recent years.

No actually on this occasion you are wrong. The rules clearly state a restricted free agent can not change clubs unless traded if his current club matches the offer.

Incorrect. Again.

If a RFA has his offer matched, and declines to stay with his current team he effectively loses all FA status

He is just an out of contract player with the same options as any out of contract player:
Seek trade, or go into one of the draft mechanisms

Lost pick update:

6 and 24 (not sure of compo picks) :(

Is there a point dwelling on it?

We've lost them...we know it will hurt so is there a point on dwelling on it further.

that's what I said. do you just like to argue for arguments sake?

Wonder what people think will be outcome for the trade and draft this year?
I dont think we will pick up any FAs this year, especially since we have been told how aggressive the crows are going to be in FA, and we wont pick up Betts or Cooney for sure.
We wont trade into the first or second round either as we have been signing up all our decent talent of late.
We will delist Johncock, Tambling, Joyce, Callinan and Smack.
Thats my guess.

Smack will get something for a trade. I'd like to see Jaensch & McKay traded too.

Unless we can get a higher pick somehow, its impossible to predict who we will draft at pick 40 odd.

Johncock, Tambling, Callinan and Martin will be delisted.

Also we will have a complete clean out of the rookie list after promoting Laird and Hartigan.

Maybe take a punt on Silvia in FA. Dont think we have much chance of getting any of the other with talent.

Delist/retire:
Johncock
Joyce
Callinan or tambling

Rookie delist:
Orval
Mcintyre

Rookie elevated:
Laird
Hartigan

Traded out:
Henderson(not by choice)
Smack
Thompson (or delisted)

Traded in:
Polec and second rounder.

FA:
Betts

Picks:
20 odd
40 ish
Rookie 6ish
Rookie 24ish
Rookie 42ish
Rookie 60ish

My guess as to what we will do.

Offer;

Dale Thomas - $500k
Offer Betts - $450k

Adelaide probably has only about 5% chance of luring Dale thomas out of Melbourne and you want to offer him 500k a year that is laughable. We would need to offer Dale thomas about 700-800k per year over 4 years to have any chance.

the simply rule with free agents is you must pay over top or the player won't change clubs.

Sadly Dales current injury issues will rule him out of any free agency at present. Any side would have to be made to risk such a huge contract on a player that may not be able to get on the park most of the time.

this is the first time i can think of Dale thomas having any real injury problems. He is a very good player who suits a major need of ours a outside running midfielder

the question the club has to ask itself is it prepared to go after a very good player who suit our needs and could win us a few extra games himself which could be the difference between 10th and 7th or 7th and 4th considering the advantage all the other clubs have on us in terms of bringing in talented young players.

Last 2 years from memory. Its going to bring his bargaining power down but we will still have to pay well over. Would love to see us have a crack at least no matter how unrealistic it may be.

I probably should have made myself clearer.

What I meant was he wont attract high price offers from other clubs because of his injury. He will get offers but at a reduced rate. Can you imagine the uproar from fans of any club who offers a player from another club who is injured 'now' a massive contract to play next season and they only manage a handful of games because of consistent injury. Its probably one of those damned if you do and damned if you don't scenarios.

I personally have no problems with trying for Dale Thomas. But before we go offering him $700K contract we really need to understand his injury problems.

In what possible world is a first year draftee from the 2013 National Draft going to give any club an advantage over one that picks up a prime aged, A grade midfielder via trade/FA (if 100% fit)?

Very interesting following you posts. First you make a point of posting Eddie Betts stats in a not so subtle attempt to bag him. Now your making sure no one is interested in Thomas.

So I guess your just getting everybody used to the fact that the only FA we will be seeing is the sweet FA our club prides itself on.

You should bow to it because thats the evidence. Adelaide has lost more players than any other club and we struggle to recruit anyone. Carey and Jarman don't count as recruits, both were over 10 years ago.

And......Adelaide the club is different......FWIW.......see above.
Well, you've said it, so why not prove it? Very easy to say stuff like this without analyzing other clubs and actually looking at each of the player exits and recruits. You seem very adamant about it, so please, provide SOMETHING. I'm not saying you are wrong, but at least try and back your argument up.
