Gee if we drafted Lever it would start the people talking...

First McStay.

Then Lever - come on, you know the song... Take the 'L' out of Lever and it's Ever!

Hey you try and make jokes that get past the swear filter! :p

Sorry blynd_freddie...I don't know what the L that is all about.

Remember Rahn Hooper got homesick at Brisbane and he was from Ipswich.
Not sure I would go that far Billy. Rhan nowadays plays for Springwood Pumas and has done for a couple of years. From my observations Rhan did not have what it took to knuckle down at the top level. He is now playing great footy at a level and a commitment that he seems to be comfortable with.

He could of been amazing

He could have been. Watched the pumas lose last years granny. Their best player.
So many similar stories relating to indigenous players across all codes, I remember watching a young winger play for the Ipswich Jets in the QRL under Tommy Raudonikis when I was just a kid think his name was Gary Langton or something like that, him and the blonde midget halfback where stand outs and I was sure they would make it in the nswrl. The half back was Allan Langer.

I don't like McCartins body shape. I don't think he will test well in the skin folds. Do not draft Leppa!
So let me understand you. You don't want Wright and you don't want McCartin. Any chance come draft day you will like any kid coming to Brisbane?:rolleyes:

You might wanna check out Rocky's body shape and skinfolds when he got drafted. 5 years later he was equal 5th in the Brownlow. Won't take long to get fit being in the AFL system.

With Matt Hammelmann I am not sure that he will become the number one power forward type that we are lacking. He seems to me to be best suited as a complementary second tall type. I say this as he lacks the physical presence and the sheer power that the top key forwards all have, his body does not look like it will fill out like a Tom Hawkins, Travis Cloke, Tom Boyd type forward. There is only one tall forward in this draft who has the dominant presence that just demands the ball and can take a game over and that is Patrick McCartin, who is the best player in the draft. Hammelmann is great on the lead, as clean hands both below his knees and overhead. He also looks to be a smart player and hits the scoreboard reasonably consistently which is good, although his goal kicking and conversion is average. Overall I think he has a very nice skill set and he is worth a late first round pick in this years draft.

Is he really worth such a pick?

I'm curious to see how the division 2 guys are viewed this year since there were no cross over games with division 1, only TAC cup games.

I think if we took a punt on the winner of the recruit, we would no doubt be gaining alot of publicity and exposure to foreign viewers.

If it's obvious they're no good, I think it would come off as a bit cheap. But if the player has the upside similar to that of a late third or fourth rounder, I would like the club to take a punt on him.

In saying all that the AFL would have well and truly established the list of clubs who get priority access to the winner. Will probably end up at one of the big Victorian clubs to complete the whole 'fairytale' of the player being drafted to one of the biggest clubs in the code's heartland.

If they're good enough to get drafted they probably won't come to us they'll go to a big Victorian club. Unless there's a few that can be drafted.

There is no doubt that the Division 2 games are viewed less favourably than the Division 1 games and those that perform well for Queensland are not going to skyrocket up the draft order. Matt Hammelmann still had a very good 3 games for QLD and showed that he could push up the ground, take marks on the lead, hit packs hard, kick goals and create goals for others. There weren't any really good defenders that he played on (the best Div 2 defenders were from Qld imo) at the champs so obviously that has to be taken into account. His 2 TAC Cup games that he played were pretty poor and he was out performed as a forward by Matt Uebearang. Outside of that he has had some good moments in the NEAFL and showed that he could perform as a key defender at AIS level where he was not out of depth and held his own easily.

For mine he is probably the fourth best key forward talent at the draft (although I see Moore and Durdin as defenders) and I rate him around that late first round early second round position. I rate the key forwards:

1. Pat McCartin
2. Sam Durdin (he has all the makings of a great CHB but has the potential to be a good forward but will take time given he has not settled into a position yet)
3. Darcy Moore (he is much better as a key defender though imo, but he has more potential that Hammelmann)
4. Matt Hammelmann
5. Tyler Kietel
6. Hugh Goddard (again he is better as a key defender and has gone from overrated to underrated as he is a real talent as a KPD)

Also on Pat McCartin watch, he has really hit his stride the last two TAC cup games kicking 7 and 6 goals respectively. Easily the number one pick although just behind him is Christian Petracca who is also dominating the TAC cup as a midfielder and forward. Those two are the clear cut number one and number two picks imo.

Interesting to note that you don't rate Wright. I agree.

Wright is best as a ruckman so that is why he is not on the list. He can play as a permanent forward but imo he won't be anything special as a forward and will be best served as a ruckman where I rate him quite highly. There are a lot of good solid ruckman in the AFL atm and I think he will slide as teams will be reluctant to take a ruck early given that solid rucks are easy to find and don't have the same impact on teams as other positions.

Should be an interesting week in the TAC Cup then. Petracca's Rangers vs McCartin's Falcons and I believe Qld also play.

I just hope we have a top 2 pick. I want to win more games..... I just hope the teams around us win also. I was wrapped when the saints won.

There's a queenslander who looks pretty dam good. Good kick and real quick looks like he can take the game on. The qld factor could be strong enough to get em to us. That's if he wins it IMO he will

I haven't seen either live but after all the hype the vids of them are somewhat underwhelming.
Petracca on the other hand looks a gem and would be a welcome addition to our midfield. You can never have too much class, in any position.

Anyone else feeling that if we miss out on McCartin, taking Petracca with out first pick and Hammelman with our second might be the way to go?
I think so. I'd love to pick McCartin, but if we have pick 2 and he's unavailable I would pick Petracca in a second. His agility, spacial awareness, sheer toughness and strong marking ability should have him top 2 without question.

This.

I believe its known as Bradbury drafting. Nothing wrong with hoping the other teams overtake us so long as we keep winning where possible;)
