I'll be all over Durdin who I see could end up being the best KPP of the draft once his body is right. Helps that he can play at both ends as well. I'm not so sure we will be definitely going KPP with first pick though with the rise of our young KPPs. I think we might go best available instead of needs.

Liberate yourself from the ladder watching and just know we are going to get a high first round talent of some sort to add to a promising list.

Still shits me that Melbourne are going to get 2 picks in top 5

Yeah it sucks, but on the bright side, watching what we're getting out of picks in the 20s (Taylor, Gardiner, McStay) tells me that a good recruiting team is as important as high picks.

They've also had plenty of high picks. I can't really see how two more are going to change things for them in the short term.

Actually wouldn't mind getting Durdin or the best available midfielder after that game. Close and McStay look like they're going to become great players while Freeman is developing nicely in the reserves, we also have Hammelmann to come in next year (who could easily be ranked as the third best forward based on this years form).

Good point. Our recruiting team look good, at least we don't have carltons recruiting team.
Our development of the young guys seems to be going well as well.

They are likely to get Petracca and wright who look really good. Though they still have hogan to come back, maybe they won't want wright?

The only problem is, is that close is more of a 2nd forward, we don't have a number 1 forward yet. Not sure what freeman would be.

We haven't really had a good history with top 5 picks. Pick 7 would suit us better.

Ye, still plenty of unknowns. Close could easily become the main target and thrive once he bulks up/gets experience. Freeman is huge, it'll just depend how he performs on the big stage.

Hawks don't really have a number 1 forward either. Gunston is probably their only pure forward and he is smaller than Close.

I'd call Roughhead a number one forward.

he's only 191cm tall and plays large portions of the game around the ground. What the Hawks have are a very flexible, mobile forward line. All have good speed and can take good marks. Not overly tall and definitely no power forward.

Agreed they have a mobile forward line with a plethora of options but that doesn't mean Roughhead isn't the number one. 193cm and whilst he's mobile he still spends most of his time stationed in the forward line. I know power forward are becoming rarer but I think the term applies to Roughhead. Strong contested marker who will split packs. The fact that he's so mobile and able to compete with the ball at ground level is a massive bonus. I don't have the numbers but I imagine the Hawks still go for Roughhead more than any other forward and vastly important to their structure despite the glut of other options.

Regardless of where we finish we will get a good player. I think I posted a few pages back that I'd prefer we get a midfielder, however either way now I think who we pick won't really matter. In my opinion we still have 2 games we are a genuine chance to win, against Adelaide next week and Collingwood at the MCG given the poor form they are in. If we win another 1-2 games in the last 4 rounds I think we'll have a pick in the 4-6 range which may or may not net us a KPF. At this point I'd rather us consolidate and build on what we have with hopefully a better mix of depth will allow some players to develop in the reserves and create a better push for spots in the first half of next year rather than the injuries we've had from Round 1. The question is who would come out of the side next year apart from at least 2 for Rich and Redden and what is the best way to have Leuy and Martin function in the side.

McStay's style of game is the one we need deep in the forward line (not necessarily Mcstay himself) so it really depends on what the coaching staff and recruiters think about the draft pool, academy prospects and who's on our own list. We are definitely well placed for next year barring injury.

Roughead is most definitely a number one forward.

My opinion hasn't changed, I'd still like Wright if he's available. But I'd rather we finish as high as possible and take best available tbh.
