brayshaw with our first pick and ideally lamb to slide to our second pick would be amazing, though I think we will most likely end up with pick 5 and choose between durdin or lever

I have had Wright penciled in for our first round pick for some time however Martin's form and the likelihood (based on bigfooty reports) that we will take two kpp's from the academy has made me question whether we may not take the opportunity to draft another top line midfielder. I still think we have space for another inside mid that would enable Rich to be released to the outside on the wing or off HBF.

still a lot of balls in the air to be resolved but we have a lot of options to consider...wouldn't even rule out a trade of our first round pick.

A question for those who have a knowledge of the draftees, could Pickett play as a back pocket, seems like an ideal skillet for us back there?

If we take Hammelmann (Which sounds like it), I also believe we will take the best available midfielder with our first pick.

Means guys like Rich can move to the HB and Mayes to the HF and with rotating options (Green, Zorko, Squizzy)

Lions academy product Jon Freeman kicks 4 against the Pies. Huge find. Recruiters say Lions will take academy kids with 2nd, 3rd, 4th picks
Can't see any team using their first round pick to try and out bid us. And only St. Kilda, Melbourne and GWS are ahead of us in the second round. I'm hopeful of getting away with only using our 3rd, 4th and 5th picks on three academy kids.

Apparently Hawthorn/Freo interested with their firsts. Also heard the Saints are interested in Hammelmann. If Paige is to be believed Andrews is somewhat of a bolter in terms of interstate interest

lolwut? No more of an expert than me or you. Her reliability with that stuff in the past is sketchy at best.

Those on here suggesting that we nominate Tyler Roos as a Father/Son selection have obviously not seen him play.
Here is his 2nd Half of a TAC Cup match for Sandringham v Nth. Ballarat (and his 1st Half was no better).
If you can point out any "Draftable" moments, please do.

(For the record, Tyler is #1 for Sandringham - white jumpers)

Good luck to the boy....I hope he does get drafted.
But there will be far better options available to the Lions.

He's been getting a bit of attention recently, but I really can't remember seeing anything positive about him as a player.
I've seen both positive and negative opinions on Clayton- is he more deserving of attention than Roos?

Hawthorn desperately need a key back so you'd think their first is for Andrews.

We drafted McStay as the third tall for defense but he appears to be showing potential in the forward line. Love to get Durdin to finish the backline rebuild.
I still think he will be a defender that occasionally goes into the forward line. How good was that mark in the middle of 3/4 players. How comfortable did he look down there. The commentators were mentioning it.

With Close, Freeman, and McStay all showing some positive signs recently and the likelihood that we we will draft Hamellman and possibly another KPP in Andrews, I would be more than happy for us to draft a midfielder with out 1st pick. I wouldn't be against placing it on the trade table either and throwing a bit of cash at a young midfielder like Tom Mitchell from Sydney or one of GWS's young midfielders.

Good point actually, if we are looking at a midfielder, why not throw our pick at Syd or Coll to get Mitchell or Beams?

If today's game finishes with the giants winning, surely that will give us more of a chance on picking up Brayshaw. Saints will pick up McCartin, if Melbourne get the next two picks, surely they will go Petrecca and Wright. I cant see them picking up two midfielders with picks 2 and 3, The giants and in need of a defender before another mid seeings as there midfield stocks are plentiful. I could see them going Lever or Duridin as both will be gone by there next pick. Even if melbourne gets pick 2 and 3 it is kind of shaping up that Brayshaw will be available for us to take.

If Melbourne get picks 2 AND 3 then the AFL need to have a long hard look at themselves.

Could not agree more! If he was available for trade, surely you would not see a club giving up a top 10 pick for him let alone 3!! Could even argue that he wouldn't be worthy of a first round pick this year.

Been saying forever now that we should draft a midfielder. I'm now starting to think we may trade out our first pick. Best available at say pick 5 would be Brayshaw and I'm not really seeing anything to suggest he would be a top 5 pick any other year. Durdin may be a chance but if we draft Andrews I think we may pass on Durdin who is a risky pick considering his injury and lack of championship form. No-one really screams PICK ME outside of Petracca IMO with even the KPPs all having relatively quite championships.

I think we may trade the first pick.

What will be your sentiments be when they ask for a priority pick and most probably will get one. They asked last year if I recall so I'm sure they'll ask again. Most probably end of first round though.

If you look purely at results, it is hard to argue that they shouldn't get some sort of priority pick. If they don't get one this year, then it is hard to see when the afl will give one.

Of course, when you take into account tanking and the shenanigans around Hogan, then they don't get a lot of pity.

But if you look at the evidence you will see it won't make the slightest big of difference. Adding another kid to that slaughter accomplishes what?

We lost 5 first rounders and still got off the canvas. Why can't they? Why are they so goddamn putrid?

Doesn't change the fact that, based on results, they probably qualify.

FWIW, they have moved forward IMO. I was interested to see how Roos went because I think he was right to see that the side needed to learn discipline and that has to start with defensive attitude and structures. But perhaps he underestimated the need for these guys to enjoy footy again. Getting flogged isn't fun and, arguably, only kicking 4 goals a game isn't fun either. Right now, they are playing like a bunch of blokes who hate footy and maybe Roos needs to look at that first.

During the week on 360 Gerard was saying that they should try and get as many picks in the top 20. This supposed review of 'those players' by Roos and co. might just give them an excuse to look at the core of players who were around when they tanked and those players just after who have been 'contaminated'. There are a lot of factors as to why they're woeful. They might have to clean out the cupboard and start again.

The list doesn't lack talent, it really doesn't. They have had the picks over the past few years, what they haven't had is strong senior players to stop the rot. As good as a young player is, they need leadership and older players to show them the way. This also needs to be reinforced from the staff and coaches at the club, something that obviously hasn't happened for a long time. Given they need to rebuild with some youth, they will take some time, and i think Roos did the right thing in getting some solid senior players from outside of the club with the likes of Cross and Vince, and they were able to add Dom Tyson as well who has been great for them this year.

I will be interested to see if they continue to turn the list over this off season. As a club they need to draw the line in the sand and have a bit of fight and pride in the jumper, but way too often they get blown away or just look completely incompetent. They will have trouble keep fans and players when that is the weekly result. It is all well and good to teach the team some basics, Leppa has done that this year with us but we've picked it up, and we had plenty of young players and significant changes to our game plan. They have had a season and they just got done by a team that was below them on the ladder who was crippled with injury.

The club needs help, but a priority pick isn't the answer. They keep looking at top end draft picks to be the answer to their problems, and I think that weight is crippling the kids they bring in.

Pick 5 for 2 picks or a quality youngster from another team. Boyd is BFF with a few Lions boys. Make it happen Gubby.

Pick 5+Polkinghorn+Lisle for their second round pick+Boyd.

Gubby owes us damn it!
