No way is Pickett the pick of the lot. A good player, but he's extremely inconsistent, give me Wright or McCartin ahead of him.

i stand corrected

look forward to your next big board mate!!! are you going to increase the amount of players in this one and up until the draft?

Not yet. Pickett will be moving up, he's a great talent, but I take the KPF. Should note for the KPFs that it wasn't a great day, weather was poor, very windy day.

My concern was that Paddy looked short of a gallop, a bit out of condition and not particularly interested.

I was watching with a mate, and he commented on it a bit.

To be fair, wasn't it McCartin's first game back off injury?

Yeah it was but I still expected a bit more. Turning circle of a mack truck, not what you want for an undersized full forward. The Tex Walker comparisons are way off if today is anything to go by.

I'm hoping we finish 16th and Wright and McCartin are gone by our pick not giving us the decision to pick one of them. Petracca looks like an absolute star. He's far quicker than expected and Shifter says he is in the top 1% as far as agility goes. Cleans hands and a clearance beast. A lot of star qualities in his game. He's currently my choice.

According to the article in the HS during the week on the top 20 prospects in the draft, McCartin played in an APS game last Friday and kicked 5 goals, so if that is true then today was his 2nd game back.

Taped today's games, so I haven't seen them yet, but we need to go by his whole body of work, not just today's, obviously. Lets not forget that last year, as a "bottom-ager", he kicked 5 goals in one game against I think it might have been Vic Metro, in the champs, so he can definitely play and the fact he appears to still be growing is a huge plus, especially if he manages to squeeze out another inch or two.

All that said, it's not exactly looking like the best year ever to have the first crack at the draft, at least not at this stage. If we happened to land Petracca there are worse faits that could befall our footy club though!

PS- Did catch a few mins of the game and bloody-hell Durdin is skinny!

To a certain extent agree ARR but honestly just not feeling the talls this year. They all seem to be missing a key ingredient to make them elite quality although Durdin looks the most complete player but certainly a project type. Actually this whole draft underwhelms to a degree. Brayshaw touted as the best mid is very vanilla and looks around the Dunstan level so a top 5 pick on him is too big an investment. The real value is going to be in the picks 20-40 range IMO. Maybe not elite guys found there but some very good A graders could be available. But yeah one game is too little a sample to make an assessment but geez Petracca looks the full package. Reminds me of a combination of Dangerfield (without the elite speed) and Kennedy.

Had a look at todays game and have come up with a list of players thought have caught my eye, for a variety of reasons, across the 4 division one teams. The list is in no way comprehensive, so there is some real quality missing which we would obviously look at.

I have broken them up into saints likely draft picks and bolded the players I hope we draft:

pick 1
McCartin - VC - strong marking forward

Durdan - SA - genuine swing man
Petracca - VM - strong bodied mid
wright - VM - forward/ruck

other likely to go later in first round:
brayshaw - VM - inside mid
pickett - WA - mid/def
de goey - VM - classy mid
duggan - VM - classy mid/def
ellis - VM - creative mid
marchbank - VC - quality KPD
Keitel - WA - key forward
smith - WA - outside mid/forward

Pick 2
lamb - VC - x factor tall forward
johansen - SA - pacey outside mid/forward
lonie - VC - mid/forward
miller - VM - strong inside mid
ahern - VM - outside mid/forward

Pick 3
Winton - WA - tall mid
Wigg - SA - strong inside mid
Gore - SA - inside mid
cunico - VM - small forward/mid

Pick 4
Garlett - WA - outside mid
Rose - SA - classy half forward
Daniels - SA - small mid/forward

Pick 5 / rookie
Gregson - SA - small inside mid/ small forward

Hone - SA - small forward
Watson - WA - half back/forward
Miles - VC - small mid

I have obviously left out the likes of Moore, Goddard, urban, Lever, Blakely, Weller, Heeney, Bampton who are all likely to go in the first 2 rounds, but I haven't seen enough of them or what I have seen they didn't do much.

I am by no means a draft expert and definitely don't claim to be, just thought id list a few players who people can track for each of our draft picks

So is this the year we look at trading pick 1 for combination of Jaksch/ Tomlinson, O Rourke, I thought this was the year for the KPP

We don't see pick 1 traded so the deal would have to be exceptional. We would want a Patton or Boyd coming our way or if Tomlinson were involved a pick around 5 packaged with him.

Lets just hope GWS really want Wright for the ruck long term and that we either have pick one to give them in return for someone like Boyd/Patton (so that they can get Wright), or that they believe Brisbane will take McCartin (if they have pick 1 and us 2) and as such are happy to give us someone like that for pick 2. Or that Wright and/or McCartin really step it up more consistently from this point on!

thats probably the difference between right and paddy right there. one was in a side that dominated the other in a very poor side

I've only watched the first half, but SA seemed to be dropping a spare man back a lot of the time and the wind looks like it could have caused a bit of trouble for the big marking guys. McCartin still managed to kick 2 goals and from what I have seen he looks alright, nothing amazing from this game but alright. It's hard to look good up forward in a team that is getting flogged.

Like others here I was not impressed with Wright in the ruck but I would love to see him play a full game up forward.

Not that I know of.

And he's your likely Pick 1.
Am I right though? I hope he's had better days out than today...

He did look out of condition, his movement was slow, won't comment on him looking disinterested, considering that Country had 4 Inside 50s in the 1st quarter and the game was lost.
I'm not sold on the talls this year... Like other posters above, to me they seem to lack a little extra something.

I'd be more and more inclined to make a huge play for the Boyd/Patton/Hogans of this world and take the best available with whatever picks we have left.

Happy for Paddy to prove me wrong... Or grab McKenzie later ;)
