I thought wright was a forward who "could" ruck.
I think it just depends on circumstances. He's obviously played very good footy in both positions, but needs determine where he plays. For his TAC Cup side they apparently have two others who are 200cm or more, so they play ruck and Wright plays forward, but Vic Metro presumably considered him to be their best option in the ruck and with them also having Moore forward, it made sense to play Wright in the ruck.

Wow, how did Patty McCartin get into that team? What a joke, missed 3 games, injured in another and underwhelming in the rest of them, yet Jordan DeGoey misses out? Sounds like some man love from Shifter and his mates.

Same with Moore he had a game in which he kicked three joe the goose goals and nothing else.

Rival clubs believe the bottom-placed Saints — who tried to prise Tom Boyd from GWS last year — are certain to choose a goalkicker with their first selection and McCartin leads an open pack for the prized billing.

Like Riewoldt, the Geelong Falcon stands 193cm and 95kg and booted 2.3 from five marks as Vic Country fell to Western Australia at Etihad Stadium.

McCartin had his set-shot routine sharpened by Matthew Lloyd and is coming to grips with the hype, but says his standing was built on hard work.

“I try to be a powerful forward, pretty explosive off the mark. I’ve got pretty good hands and I like to think I work pretty hard,” he said.

So why have we gone off on him as a massive upgrade on Rhys Stanley.

I would agree with that article saying that we're likely to select McCartin with our #1 pick. I just get the feeling we're keen, don't know why or how, but just the feeling.

So... No Petracca?!

Just being a massive upgrade on Rhys wouldn't be enough of a reason to take someone at pick 1 of a draft. Surely you go best available at no.1? Pick 1 of a draft is not for needs (unless you rate two equally and they play different positions), that is usually reserved for trading and later in the draft.

Best available IMO is currently Petracca, needs are for later picks unless the 'need' player demands the spot.

None of the big fellas did during the Carnival. I await Paddy's response.

OK so we just pick the next 200cm+ forward who can also play ruck later in the draft.
I guess there are plenty of them.

I'd be happy drafting another developing tall forward a bit later in the draft, i think you can find a beauty late but it is rare you do so..

If its rare to do so , why do you think we will ?

Since I'm well and truly on the "Helmet head" bandwagon I just thought I'd put this here.

I've no doubt Caleb Daniel is one of the best players in the draft. I've said it all year, so its good to see him living up to it. He is a super player. Nobody has his combination of contested game, outside run and skills. But obviously his height is a whole new level, as compared to say a Prestia. Even Taylor has a good 5cm on him. I still think his pure talent should see him go third round at the latest, as opposed to people who assume he'd drop to the rookie draft.

Gwilt leaves via FA resulting in a 3rd round compo for us and we take Caleb with one of them. TIA Pelchen.

................ ^^ you ^^...............

If Wright is as good as he's been touted to be, he'll demand the use of the pick. For now, he hasn't.

Draft isn't be all and end all. Draft best available and trade for needs.

While McCartin didn't really have any massive games people seem to be forgetting that he still kicked 7.4 from 3 games while looking pretty underdone after coming off an injury. It will be interesting to see how he, Wright and Petracca go from here. A big end to the year from any of them could determine who we pick.

How many more games are there left for these kids to play this year?

Well look at our list and how many key position players we actually even have under 25 and that will explain it.

We had plenty, Cahill, Archer, Walsh, Haretuku, Lynch?
We could have more now, but probably best we let them go.
Nearly all of the KPF in the league were taken "fairly" early in the draft.

Fair call.

But there have been some decent KPP taken later in the drafts and i think we could possibly find one or two ourselves.

I don't know about that. All the star key forwards have either been father son or taken very early.

There will always be exceptions (James Hird) but generally they are taken early for a reason.

I can't see us not getting a tall with our first pick and then the best available (or slider hopefully) with our second......we have so many holes in our list (key fwds, medium forwards, outside mids, a key defender, elite kicking skills across all lines, etc)

I meant KPDs as well once you look at our KPP stocks we need to add at least 4 more IMO.
