A long-term view might suggest that there is a law of gravity in football. Its blood depressing to think both GWS and GC get ANOTHER two top 20 draft picks each.
Both are already chock a block with young talent.
I dont even know where to start and where to end but each of those sides has 12-16 more good young players than us - and now they get another 2 each.
I am very skeptical about both McCartin and Wright.
Wright looks like a poor mans Kreuzer and McCartin is nowhere near as good as Boyd was last year.
I think we need to be realistic. Its a terrible year to have the number 1 pick. Marchbank or Durdin or even McKenzie may end up better than McCartin and Wright.
I think we should wait and see what happens for the rest of the season and see how they go at the Draft camp.
Not trueBut Kreuzer is a ruckman, wheras a lot of commentators are praising Wright's work as a forward.
How many has Wright kicked?
Not true
Kreuzer was considered a ruck/fwd Simon Madden kind of player and dominated TAC cup/Under 18 much more than Wright has ever done. Kreuzer kicked 51 goals in his two TAC Cup seasons. How many has Wright kicked?
So as I said - Wright is poor mans Kreuzer. If Kreuzer cant make it as a fwd in the AFL I remain EXTREMELY skeptical Wright will.
I think we need to get realistic and not fantasise about these young players.

Kreuzer established himself as both the team's No. 1 ruckman and as a key forward during that time, scoring 51 goals in his 33 games with the Knights. In 2007, he won the Morrish Medal and the Knights' best and fairest, and he was selected in the Victorian Metropolitan and All-Australian under-18s teams, and in the TAC Cup Teams of the Year in both 2006 and 2007.
Interesting. Makes Wright pretty similar to Kreuzer then. Maybe a bit better?20 goals so far from 6 games in the TAC cup this year. 27 from 12 games last year.
E: McCartin: 4 goals from 1 game in 2014. 21 goals from 8 in 2013.
McKenzie: 18 goals from 6 games (10 goals in 1 game) in 2014. No games played in 2013.
Keitel will be selected in the teens.if you took paddy and put him in the WA side and then took keitel and put him in the vic country side, would we still be seeing mock drafts/opinion stating paddy is pick 1 and keitel is somewhere in the 2nd round?
Anyone looks good in highlights.
What I think it clearly says (Wright 47 goals from 18 games v Kruezer 51 from 33 games) is that while Kruezer was certainly effective up forward, that Wright is better performed up forward than him and that Kruezer is likely better in the ruck/forward role, while Wright is likely to be more effective than him in the forward/ruck role.Interesting. Makes Wright pretty similar to Kreuzer then. Maybe a bit better?
Its all fairly unsettled in my mind. Still another 2 months of footy I guess.
I have to say I was seriously impressed with his marking in SA's 2nd last game at the champs against VC. The way he was clunking all those overhead marks so cleanly was excellent, but by far the most impressive thing was those couple of marks he took at full speed when he launched himself over the top of whoever was in front of him to mark overhead at full stretch over the top of them. It just reminded me so much of a young and skinny Nick Riewoldt it wasn't funny. There are very few who have the ability to regularly take those sorts of marks. He is damn skinny though. Noticeably thinner than the likes of Goddard, McCartin and Wright.Keep our eyes on Durdin as well.

Everyone also needs to bear in mind that Kruezer was extremely good prior to all his recent injury issues and that had it not been for them he easily had the ability and temperament etc to have a seriously outstanding AFL career. Unfortunately, it seems that like with Kosi, Gumbleton, and maybe even Luenberger and others, we are never going to see his best of Kruezer, due to all those injuries. He was bloody good.
What also needs to be remembered is that Wright has had a lot of back issues in recent years and that had it not been for them that he would almost certainly have been a lot more dominant last season than he was and that would probably have been a lot better overall over this past two seasons had it not been for those problems derailing his footy for a good period of time there.

He is another one that is just coming back from injury and who, like Aish, in similar circumstances last year, really only showed glimpses of his best at the champs.
It can also work in our favor they have another list cull this year I would imagine and the salary cap pressure will come they cant keep them all. Its a revolving door of mainly victorian footballers and we must pounce when the opportunity arives. Its blood depressing to think both GWS and GC get ANOTHER two top 20 draft picks each.

Let me begin with saying I have no opinion on who I think is the best draft prospect this year.
What I really hope, is that we just choose the best player available.
We can all see the need for KPF's in our team, and so can the general footy population.
But, I hope that this need doesn't sway our drafting, particularly at no.1 pick.
If Petracca is the best, choose him.
Don't go choosing Wright or McCartin, because of a need, choose them because we absolutely 'see' them as the best player in the draft.
Nothing would 'delay' a rebuild then a wasted No. 1 pick, even though we are most likely to score another next year.
The war chest Finnis is loading into the 'cannon' can be aimed at a KPF, if that's what's required.

Lol, you opinion flipped pretty quicklyInteresting. Makes Wright pretty similar to Kreuzer then. Maybe a bit better?

Keep our eyes on Durdin as well.
When I see guys like Tom Lynch (GC), Cameron, Patton and Boyd playing I do wonder if this years crop are as good. We are still yet to see how Jesse 'Hulk' Hogan goes as well.
