If Petracca does turn out to be the standout #1 this year then we better hope like hell we can get a key forward from GWS.

I would think we can grab a decent fwd at our second pick. Rahul is probably one of the better posters who could provide some names. Keitel perhaps?

Yeah, I can see where a lot of us are going.

Trade #1 to GWS for Boyd, or get Petracca with #1. Bugger GWS.

And get Jacksh either as a PSD or for severe unders from GWS while we're at it.

#1 and Gwilt for Jacksh and Boyd.

Reece in the second round...

I just don't think the odds are in our favor to build a premiership winning side around a a tall taken that late. Maybe if we had an amazing development system but I just can't see it happening.

E: people need to keep in mind that we will be going up against GWS and GC so we have to be as close to perfect all over the ground as possible.

Take Jaksch in the PSD and keep #1 for Petracca. Do a deal next year for Shiel and Boyd/Patton for pick 1.....and yes i still think we'll be on the bottom next year. Our situation is not a quick fix....

Best result available with pick 1, whether that is via a trade, or through keeping it and using it in the draft. If we get Petracca then I think we just have to go all-out for a Patton/Boyd next year and make them an offer that is good enough in one way or another that they consider it too good to refuse. And of course hope that his Spencership comes on as we hope he will (also Lee and Rhys, just to give us options).

Agreed mate. We desperately need class thru the midfield just as much as we need a tall fwd. Billings (eventually) and Petracca will be a great start...

take jacksch in the PSD and let em know that next year when we come for boyd/patton/shiel it wont be for pick 1, so its pick 1 this year or.. next year they can take the 2nd rounder or we'll grab em again via the PSD

had enough of GWS's bullshit trade demands

Spot on with all of this .
I like it ..... A lot !

McCartin kicked 7 today so his stocks have risen a little.

But really #1 pick this year and next will not be nearly enough to get us off the bottom.
2 good players - even 2 guns will not be enough. We are miles off the pace and we still have our two best players to leave us.

We need a priority pick and then we need to jag another top 20 or two and/or get some young gun from GWS some way or another. And thats just to get off the bottom.

If anyone thinks two number 1 picks is going to save us or lift us up the ladder they are going to be very disappointed.

Was anyone listening to MMM this afternoon? They were speaking about Jeremy Cameron and a bit of speculation that he might be coming home. I only caught the very end of it.

Taken that late? It's the second round for God's sake, not the Rookie Draft...
Far out. This petraca sounds like the next judd.
Very different types of players; think more Dusty Martin, or as I've said elsewhere, a less polished Darren Jarman.

Compared to pretty much all the other good forwards in the comp it is late. The only none father/son pick that I can think of is Tippett taken at pick 32, the rest are all around top 10 or would have been if not for old father son rules.

If McCartin and Petracca are both rated the same at the end of the year I think we should take McCartin because he is someone we can build a forward line around. What we shouldn't do is take Petracca and hope that McKenzie is still around at our second, because if McKenzie has a good end to the season he might not be around at our second and if he doesn't have a good end then he probably isn't worth the risk.

Yes, our midfield is pretty garbage but we have a few more years of low picks to load up on mids and good mids are easier to find with 2nd and 3rd round picks. Plus mids generally develop faster so we don't necessarily need to load up on them this year.

Ultimately, if Petracca is a standout best available we will take him, but I personally think that our need for a forward outweighs our need for a mid if they are both rated equally.

What about just taking the absolute best mids with our first picks in the next few drafts build the team from the middle n then later worry about trading for talls. They take too long to develop anyway by the time they become any good thier entertaining offers from oposition clubs. Let brisbane take mccartin then offer him a million to start winging about homesickness in 2017

So the Swans are heading for their 3rd flag in a decade and are set to take Heeney in the draft - who is arguably the best player and would/could easily be considered as a number 1.

Forwards are traditionally more risky pick ups , so unless they are a guaranteed gun, not just the best draft pick this year, we should draft the best player overall and then trade our number 1 pick next year for an established upcoming forward who wants a long term contract and more money etc.

Both of these rely on there being good key forwards available and them wanting to come to us. Developing our own forward isn't a certainty but neither is getting one from another club.

There is absolutely no point having a gun forward if the ball doesn't come down there. Then when it does it comes with putrid disposal.
