Brisbane will get more out of that win + Durdin than they would out of not winning again and getting Wright/McCartin.

If we can win 3 games and have to settle for LeVerde, Weller or Goddard instead of losing for the next month and getting McCartin/Petracca then I say we win.

The boys that smashed Freo will take more from that win than any draft pick could give us. 2-3 more of those would be incredible!

In respect of Brisbane, I think people may be forgetting that they have Jackson Paine, Brent Staker, Jono Freeman, Michael Close and Jordan Lisle knocking about on their list - all 194cm and up apparently - and will have access to the 196cm Matt Hammelmann this year via their Academy...

Not a crop of world-beaters, granted, but a KPF might not be their top priority...

For all we know someone you mentioned could be the best player in this draft. The way some people talk about these kids it's as if they're finished products.

While I'm at it, I've found my fun-times favourite for next season; the name alone is bloody priceless, but he reads like a jet!

Didymus Blanket 19-6-97 187cm, 82kg Queensland/Cape York

Strong bodied medium defender/midfielder that is very well balanced and makes smart decisions with his disposal by hand or foot. Possesses very good agility and a nice step through traffic or around opposition players. His rebound and ability to run and carry the ball from half back provides his team with great counter attack. He applies very good defensive pressure laying countless tackles. His best game at the NAB AFL Under-16 Championships came against the Northern Territory where he had 14 disposals, four clearances and five tackles. Indigenous player.

EDIT: Boarding at Scotch for the last few years too, so you would imagine that adjustment issues would be more-or-less non-existent.

We have Roo, Stanley, Lee, White, Bruce...

Look on the Brisbane board. They were praying we would pass on McCartin before the weekend. They are even more desperate than we are!

I recall Lenny saying somewhere they had a few drinks on Sunday night after Freo game, heading into w'end off - they always taste better after a win.

Invaluable bonding time (w/o coaches) enjoyed by younger & older brigade, you would have thought, with a smile on their faces from the previous day's effort.

I'd rather have Tom Boyd than win a game for the rest of the year, short term pain is worth the long term gain.

Would you say that Boyd would be more beneficial to us than petrecca

We just need as many talented players as we can. As seducing as Petracca seems to be, if Boyd is in fact a chance of being traded then I'd give up pick 1 for him.

If the noise about Boyd is just wishful noise then I'm happy for Trout & Bains to make the call on Petracca/McCartin/Wright & then dangle our 2015 pick in front of GWS for Boyd/Patton/Cameron.

I'm not adverse to taking Paddy this year & then trading for one of the GWS talls in 12 months time. Locking in long term tall forwards is a key plank in the rebuild.

Quite possibly the smartest thing i've ever read regarding the draft! :thumbsu:

We have Roo, Stanley, Lee, White, Bruce...

What. That is hardly a good list of forward options. Roo is going to retire in a few years, Stanley is a ruck/forward, Lee is promising but injury prone, White is totally speculative and Bruce is a defender first that has had a couple OK games.

My post was in response to Barrels listing Brisbane's forward stocks as a sign that they don't need a KPF as much as we do so they can afford to win games.

I would argue our forward stocks are much stronger than theirs. Not aamazing for the league, but stronger. There is a reason they are playing Merrett up forward.

If Brisbane don't need to tank for McCartin/Wright then there's no way we should.

Yes. We need another key forward option when Rooey retires and Boyd is the right man to fill the hole.
I'd say your right , it's tough as a supporter looking at draft options when we need so many holes filled.

West coast won the flag in 06 based on a good / brilliant midfield. Forward line was fairly average

Paine: average which is why Collingwood who are in need of talls let him go in the trade
Staker: 30 year old injury prone footballer.
Close: Looked good on the weekend.
Freeman: don't know much about him
Lisle: spud

That isn't any good for Brisbane.

Trade pick 1 for Tom Boyd, draft McKenzie or Keitel with one of our other later picks.
(I see Knightmare has Keitel going to Sydney for Pick #36, so would assume we'd need a pick in the mid 30s for him)

Thus, tall forwards: Boyd, Stanley, Riewoldt, McKenzie/Keitel, White, Bruce (swingman), (Tom Lee)

Tall Defenders: Fisher, Gilbert, Delaney, Roberton, Keitel (swingman), Bruce (swingman)

Fair enough.

Hold the phone... All I said was they have some arguable prospects there, not that they didn't need KPFs as much as we do.

It was a comment on the fact that everyone is assuming they'll go tall with their first pick when they very well may NOT, particularly as they're more-or-less guaranteed Hammelmann. It's like the assumption in the media that we're nailed on to take McCartin.

We have no idea how they internally rate all those blokes, other than the fact that they're not getting a game, and that really only tells us just that.

+1

has the ever been a grand final where the grand final was won by the FWD line and not the midfield?
