I really hate this. Draft means nothing now. Why bother keeping Pick 1 and nabbing Petracca when he can just turn around next season and say 'send me to Sydney?'

May as well turn pick 1 until mulitple picks, increases the chances that someone will actually stay.

you create a culture and atmosphere that players want to be involved in. Winning helps a lot too. We aren't going to get get prospective guns wanting to come to us now, but in 2/3 years when we have an established young promising team such as the Dogs atm, that's when we start being looked at as a prospective destination to go to. In the meantime we have to build our list from the top down. We have so much more pain to come, when the last of our greats leave.

Spare me the talk about contracts meaning nothing. GWS' contract with Boyd is for one more year, and it gives them enormous leverage over trade talks right now, but it's also a weakness because in a year's time there won't be a contract: in other words, their contract is a one-year asset which they can keep or cash in. Totally fair situation. Boyd is requesting a trade and because he has a contract with GWS, GWS will be fairly compensated for agreeing to an early termination of the contract.

As for loyalty, players have the same amount of loyalty to a club that the club has to them. Which is to say none. In Boyd's case, he was treated as nothing more than a commodity when GWS drafted him despite having two monster key forwards in the same age bracket - accepted wisdom is that GWS was always going to trade one of the three. He decided it should be him. Good for him.

Peli-can better be on the phone to Boyd and Pickering getting him to change his mind other wise he is going to become Peli-can't. :p

Is anyone else concerned that because there is so much going on, especially with the Giants and the Dogs, that they will take all week to get themselves sorted out and might not get time to deal with us. Should we, or do we, have a plan B in place to get another top 20 pick?

Don't stress peeps, rest assured Saints have made enquires about Tom Boyd since this broke publicly. Wouldn't be surprised if we trump the Dogs

It's gotta be Griffen and 6.
Yep, because WE want 6!

#1 for #4, #6, and #7, c'mon down!

Because the PRICE IS RIGHT!

Petracca for me, Boyds conduct dosnt say much about him as a man
Someone from the WB board just posted on the GWS board that WB have offered Boyd $5.5 mil over 6 years with $3 mil up front in the first two years.

If it is anything like that or the other offer that is being rumoured do you really look down on him for wanting to accept it, especially if he thinks GWS can cover for his loss with Cameron, Patton, McCarthy, etc, plus they could get a McCartin/Wright this year easily enough?

You can't blame Boyd… a young guy given an opportunity to go home and earn nearly a million a year.
This is what happens when one team gets too many first round picks in a short amount of time, they have way too many stars than they can afford to keep, so opposition teams will come in and offer way overs to pry out the best young players…

Well done to the dogs, I have no doubt we are doing exactly the same with Cameron & others.

Still, I feel slightly flat at the prospect of ending the draft period without Boyd, with out the # 1 young player in the country and possibly without one of our few younger players that is any good. Not all will happen of course and we may get 3 really high quality players… but the lure of the # 1 players is big.

Ok, for those that would know.....
How does Petracca stack up against Boyd in value? Who would be pick 1 if they were both in this draft?

Petracca in my opinion. Boyd requires others to deliver the ball whereas Petracca gets it himself.

Boyd can be left stranded - not so Petracca.
