If we haven't been in contact with Boyd's management all year then we have failed… surely we wouldn't wait till the dogs have basically landed him to put a huge offer to him?

We have been but we thought we more then likely could get him next year. This has probbLy fast tracked it more, more of them touching base see if he'd rather come to us then Dogs who are mess at moment.

Someone from the WB board just posted on the GWS board that WB have offered Boyd $5.5 mil over 6 years with $3 mil up front in the first two years.

If it is anything like that or the other offer that is being rumoured do you really look down on him for wanting to accept it, especially if he thinks GWS can cover for his loss with Cameron, Patton, McCarthy, etc, plus they could get a McCartin/Wright this year easily enough?

Of course i can given that everyone expects him to be a superstar and would then be then guaranteed a wage of such amount I think he should at least be prepared to play his contract out given the Giants had the faith to draft him whatever pick he was taken. One year of loyalty isnt going to make him poor and leaving will make him less respected.

GWS should just ask for a straight swap.... Tom Boyd for Marcus Bontempelli

Won't happen, but they are worth about the same value i'd imagine, a bit like Dayne Beams for Pearce Hanley

You have to laugh at the irony of this trade period. Saints supposed to "big time" players dictating terms, instead we have been blindsighted at every turn and relegated to the back of the queue whilst we wait politely for the other clubs to work their way through the monster trades they have on the table.

On the plus side I am really impressed about the lack of noise or player unrest coming from the Saints. We seem to be a happy group at the moment, big win for the club considering how poor we are on the field. On that note, I am not as convinced as everybody that GWS will become an unbeatable powerhouse. They might be building an epic list on paper, but the rumours of players wanting out are coming thick and fast. You don't just create a winning culture overnight. I think the following is a legitimate question:

"Would an AFL premiership achieved at GWS mean as much to a player as an existing Melbourne based club"?

Surely winning a premiership at the Dogs would have to be a truckload more satisfying for Boyd than winning a flag at some artificial AFL creation, with absolutely no history, and a passionless supporter base. Not everybody will agree, but how can that compete with winning a flag that has generational supporters? I will never forget my grandparents recollection of going to the GF in 66, or watching Plugger every week with my old man at Moorabbin. My daughter is now getting old enough to come to the footy with dad and myself and she loves the time spent with her dad and pa, and the passion our whole family has for the Saints. You don't create this over the course of a few years. I can guarantee you a lot of young blokes don't grow up dreaming of being an AFL star just to play in front of a soulless crowd in Western Sydney every second week. Even if you do find yourself a premiership player, the next day when you rock up to the Western suburbs to celebrate with your fans (assuming somebody actually turns up), you sure as ferk won't find the kind of supporters that have lived and breathed your footy club for decades. I totally get why their young players would want to play elsewhere.
Could've said the same about the dogs yesterday. We don't know what is going on behind the scenes. If we end up with pick 1 I will be happy, if we trade it for a good deal I'll be happy. I know they're doing the best they can for the club.

Yes, maybe we will say to Boyd. "dont go to the Doggies, they sack coaches and have only ever won 1 premiership "

:p

Look, I understand that people want to be big time winners

But the next person who suggests that GWS would give us 4, 6 & 7 for pick 1 is going to need to groin stomp themselves.

Have some respect for yourselves, people.

Long way to go, we were very quiet for most of it last year remember...

GWS in a very, very powerful position now. Who cares if Boyd still wants out next year? There's still going to be a big bidding war for him with every Vic club going to have a serious crack. They can keep him this year and trade him next year, and still be in a strong position.

They've played this beautifully, the bastards.

a mess is an understatement. their football dept is completely fractured. playing list fractured.

a coach isnt going to fix their problems

??? Groin Stomp ???
I dont know how flexible you are mate, but i couldnt stomp on my own groin if i wanted to :D

reportedly? according to who? has there been any question from a GWS employee saying they would do 4 & 7 for griffen.

the only people i have seen touting that deal have been ex bulldogs in wallace and brown

The weekend might give the Bulldogs time to weigh up whether they are better to let Griffen go if his disenchantment with the club is irrevocable.

And whether they are best to try to pick up – among other trade targets – the Giants' No.4 pick and/or the No.7 pick they look set to acquire trading Kristian Jaksch to Carlton.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-10-10/trade-wrap-guns-in-limbo

I didn't say a club official came out with it directly. There'd probably be an exchange of later draft picks favouring GWS if they were to give up 4 & 7. It's just conjecture, really though.

Statements coming out of the Bulldogs seem pretty confident that they will get Boyd. No words such as "might" or "wants". It is more like "will". Be interesting to see if they don't get him after sounding so confident. Be hilarious if Boyd somehow got to the Saints instead. God the meltdown on the Bulldogs board would be immense!

We should trade Jack Steven & pick 22 to Melbourne for picks 2 & 3 while we're at it....

Enter the draft with 2,3,4,6,7.....:cool:

That's Brayshaw, McCartin, Wright, Lever & Weller all wearing RW&B next year.... What a crop! All i'm gonna say is **** YES! :thumbsu:

OR then trade pick 4 to the gold coast for picks 8 & 14... = Brayshaw, McCartin, Lever, Weller, Duggan & Cockatoo :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Of course we would have been in contact with them and we would have also 100% been discussing Boyd with GWS since they first started making enquiries about getting pick 1 off us. Cameron and Boyd would have been the first two names we'd have asked for.

We may of course be upping the ante now though. I would be, but only so far.

You can learn from Nick Riewoldt at the saints Thomas.

While at the dogs you learn from........ well.................. Jack Redpath

also playing with a bunch of blokes who like to punch on because one of their senior players throws around homophobic slurs, like its nothing

or maybe deal with people in the football dept trying to knife each other

Bit short in the shorts there Snake? Or should I say Snakelet...?
