Sorry for the intrusion just wondering what your cap space situation is for this season, as the rumour is we are offering $2m first year to boyd do you have similar room or?

Our cap space is so large, that we had to ask the AFL special permission to pay so many players several years ahead. Therefore it would be a very easy process to move salary payments around to take on Boyd and others. Thanks for your interest.

Really? do you have a link to more info about that?

That's a personal question how much money do you have in your bank account?

9 games 6 possessions a game - clearly has superstar written all over him.

Why pay someone like Two Metre Peter @$65K when you can pay Boyd $1m a year

Great point.

Riewoldt only averaged 9.5 disposals in his first season of AFL.

I wish we had of traded him when we had the chance. :$

It doesn't matter what your offer is, he's contracted to GWS, you could offer him $10million to be captain coach but if you don't have currency other than an injury prone 29 year old GWS won't entertain your offer.
if we trade 1 for boyd, do you have any info if we are going to trade back into the first round?

It seems everyone is on the Boyd train. Whatever happened to the Cameron deal, that was supposed to happen a month or two ago. Wasn't it quoted here somewhere that he had already been down to Seaford to meet with the heirarchy? Is he the dark horse to get to us on the last day, or has he re-signed at GWS?

Optimism & joining the dots..
Firstly the club has got us use to the idea in the last month or so we're trading pick if the right offer came along..
Secondly Boyd wants out & that's public knowledge..
Thirdly we wanted him last year, & with pick 1 this year what's changed..?
GWS are slightly obsessed with Petracca..

So much water needed to go under bridge, for the Doggies dream trade of a straight swap for Boyd to come to fruition..
CP's loves this type of stalemate, when he's holding the ace.... Pick 1 for Boyd trumps the straight swap for Griffen, & GWS are no fools.. They'll be all over us now as a trade option.. The demand for pick 1 has just gone up another notch..!!

TBH I would be staggered if GWS traded Boyd, it's so unlikely that we should really be focussing on whether we keep pick one or swap it out for another early pick like suggested above.
If we can get two we pick big Patty McCartin and then a gun mid at 12.

"Well that's just a silly comment."

No its not.

Paying $1m a season for someone with no track record is silly. No sorry I'm wrong its just plain insane.

Boyd hasn't done enough yet in any of his games to demonstrate he will be any more a superstar than Jack Watts has turned out to be and Watts was much more impressive in his first year. I bet Melbourne would have been rapt now (not!!!!) if they'd signed Watts to a 4 year $5M deal on the basis of his first year performance

After 910 pages of fantastical and entertaining hypothesising this trade period, while not even at the business end, has proven that even the 910 pages of fantastical hypothesising is not necessarily fantastical- perhaps anything IS actually possible !?!?

That was pre Pattons ACL.

Everybody has been totally spooked by the Dees and Carlton messing up their rebuilds. It's just not that simple in my opinion. Both clubs suffered from extreme mismanagement. In Melbourne's case, they made atrocious mistakes at the draft table. Absolutely ridiculous mistakes, on top of having a lot of bad luck with injuries to their high draft picks. Carlton's salary cap cheating set them back years, and they got way too far ahead of themselves. Remember the "We're coming campaign", well they did, straight back to the middle of the ladder. Slow hand clap for the Navy Blues. Reality is they didn't bring in enough talent to really challenge and the Judd trade was way too premature, there was never enough surrounding talent to seriously threaten. I am confident we will avoid such mistakes. Saints seem to be pretty realistic about where we are at and what we need to do. Bottoming out doesn't guarantee we get it right, but I think the current administration is far less likely to mismanage our rebuild. The reality is we essentially messed up the draft period 5 years running and we are playing catch up. We have to take the risk that we end up as the next Melbourne, to give ourselves the chance of been the next Hawthorn. Let's back our recruiting staff and development program in. Who knows, 2 more years of pain might just create an era of dominance.
Paragraphs please William....

Oh and it would be the cherry for us if we pip the bulldogs to anything- actually it's probably important

If we get Boyd like BrianSpeaking has suggested MAY happen... I don't want to directly swap pick 1 for him. I've become much more a Petracca fan when I realised just how much I wanted him in the RW&B. Boyd will be a very welcome addition, but I'd want another pick... greedy nature I guess.

Can someone who watches u18 please tell me some of the following.... Regardless of our need for a key fwd, is Boyd ahead of Petracca as a player (as we're essentially trading petracca for boyd if we traded pick 1 for boyd).
Would trading pick 1 for Boyd outweigh trading pick 1 for something like 4&7 and getting Wright/mccartin and a decent mid?
My thoughts are that I'd throw the kitchen sink at boyd/cameron in terms of trade value but I feel less comfortable throwing all of our salary cap at him. As much as dogs have thrown around anyway. I'm sure our list guys are going through it all right now.
