I'm thinking of not checking Bigfooty/AFL/or any other afl related websites for the next 3 days and open them all up on Friday morning.. Worth a try?

You'll end up looking like your avatar if you read all the trade posts since then.

This forum has 10 new pages up when nothing happens. I can't even imagine when something does.

Yeah, but the point still stands, it meant our senior players wouldve gradually had their contracts front loaded to ensure greater cap space later on. It would've been a transitional type process. So while we were strapped in 2012, it would / should be in a very good position now.
Front ended contracts... If it comes down to a bidding war can't see you guys beating us unless Boyd just really wants to join you.
We have been struggling to pay minimum TPP. Believe me, we can match the offer. But hope we don't. Stupid paying an unproven 19 y/o that type of money.

Thanks for replies, believe we are in very similar positions if it doesn't go through, think the competition better watch out next season as both our teams will have huge money to throw at Cameron, Boyd, Walker etc.

i'm sure GWS would prefer taking Petracca and then still having pick 4 to take wright or mccartin, than Pick 6 where both will be gone and an ageing griffen worth at best pick 20

I think we are falling into the trap of underrating opposition players again.

He certainly isn't at "the peak of his powers" or "one of the most credentialed guys going around", however he is still a very very very good player.

Still copped the #1 tag every week this year, despite him having no pre-season.

I'd agree that it isn't ideal for him to be getting injuries at 27/28 as it can sometimes then turn into a recurring issue - but he is definitely, definitely worth more than pick 20.

see thats the thing though, with how the cap rules are, its not like you have an extra 2m. you'd have roughly the same as us next year, even if we did land boyd.

we'll have to agree to disagree. even his own supporters say he goes missing in games, sounds like their version of dal santo last year

Our offer to Cameron was 5 years $4 million and Boyd 5 years $3 million plus our first pick to GWS back in July.
Just so happens our first pick is pick 1.

As I said on the weekend, shits about to get real.
The Bulldogs president is a flog, did anyone hear him on MMM this morning? Their former skipper Gary Ablett esque? What a first rate flog.
He actually used the words Gary Ablett esque? That is ******ed.....

Because potentially a 19 y,o Petracca is better long term value than a 28 y,o injured short termer

As I said, we would rather Petracca, but GWS need an experienced mid, they need to start winning games to get a supporter base up and they need someone to lead the kids. They also get another 19 year old in a fairly even draft. Going to be an interesting couple of days that's for sure.

Was thinking this same thing myself, cannot be arsed with all these requests for trades and rumours and nothing actually getting done!

btw I know you can't be the real old nexus helen right? Cause your post made sense and didn't bag the club.

$3mil over 5 for Boyd that wouldn't appear to be enough if the Dogs are offering the reported $4m over 5. If we match that it essentially means we are paying $1m for pick 1. I think that is probably a fair deal considering our need for a big key forward.

Hopefully Boyd really does want out but that he only wanted the Dogs for the money so if we offer him similar money he will choose us (who would seriously choose the dogs over us given the current situation).

It would have been handy if all these players had of came out prior to the trade period to announce they wanted out. Instead of waiting for a different day each during the period to tell their club and send the remaining 17 clubs in the league into panic, thus wasting a day of trading.

Do you think the dogs jumped the gun this morning?

i think they are desperate to be seen as a fighting, tough, strong club and thought they had one on GWS. they came off looking like fools and just opened the door for us and others

The draw card to the Dogs can seriously only be the coin. Really.

You have the option to learn off the best CHF in the modern era in Riewoldt, or the Doggies can buddy you up with.... no one. The Bulldogs have not one, single forward on their list capable of mentoring and teaching anyone how to be effective in the attacking half.

This is why I was hoping we'd get pick one, if you don't win the flag and have a losing season, no one cares if you have pick 2,3,4,5 or 10.
It's all about losing to become better, I hope the penny is dropping finally for you passionate anti losing Saints fans.
Would happily finish last the next 2 years, stockpile more young talent and then storm back up the ladder in 3 years time.

What if GWS say they don't want pick 1 for Boyd and instead want Steven? They could then tell the Dogs to keep Griffen (this would be amazing) and use pick 4 on Wright. Or they could stall the Griffen trade to drive the price down - what might have originally been pick 4 turns into pick 7. I'd hazard a guess and say they'd be happy if they ended up with Steven, Wright and Griffen.

Would we do it though? Steven for Boyd and we keep Pick 1 for Petracca?

This trade period is freaking insane. I have no idea anymore.

Also Danger, Steven, cotchin. Westoff. Mayne. Scott Thompson as FA's. Next years crop is real good.

... Just like Melbourne... or Carlton...

Are you saying that because it worked out so well for Melbourne and Carlton?

EDIT: Beaten to it..
