If either club can get him this year it will be a bonus, it'll attract other players in the future, memberships etc. It could be the turning point for either club.

Wow! This fortnight just keeps getting weirder! Has anyone ever seen a trade period like this? where the team who holds pick one is happy to trade it, yet (externally at least) has fast become a bit player! Come on pelican, I have faith still... But bloody hell, give me something!

I'm pretty sure he'll still be able to show his face in society if he gets traded out one year into his time there. As long as you respect yourself and are true to yourself you don't need anyone else's respect. In footy contracts get broken all the time anyway, just ask Scott Watters, Brenton Sanderson, Guy McKenna, Dom Tyson (who GWS trade while under contract last year), etc.

And all he's doing is asking the question here. They are perfectly free to say no if they don't want to trade him, or if they aren't able to do a deal that benefits them. He could be doing them a favour if he's just going to walk when uncontracted in 12 months time anyway.

Im not advocating making him a pariah and handing out pitchforks just we have a tendency to latch on to the bad of someone rather then the good and i wouldn't want this to tarnish his reputation. Those Coaches didn't look to opt out of their contracts which i see as the difference, If GWS went to Boyd and said the Doggies have made an offer what are your intentions next year are you prepared to be traded now then i have no problem with him and all the cash splashed at him.

I've been trying to tone it down.
Cocaines a hell of a drug...

Sorry for the intrusion just wondering what your cap space situation is for this season, as the rumour is we are offering $2m first year to boyd do you have similar room or?

Obviously can't know to any certainty, but suggestions are we have more/similar room.

We would have a lot, not quite sure on the Bulldogs level, from memory riewoldt is the highest paid and only gets 600,000ish these days as they have the balance like geelong did.

It doesn't matter what your offer is, he's contracted to GWS, you could offer him $10million to be captain coach but if you don't have currency other than an injury prone 29 year old GWS won't entertain your offer.

This is why I was hoping we'd get pick one, if you don't win the flag and have a losing season, no one cares if you have pick 2,3,4,5 or 10.
It's all about losing to become better, I hope the penny is dropping finally for you passionate anti losing Saints fans.
I get what you mean about not wanting to flounder in the mid-table and I don't think anyone underestimates the power of pick 1 but if getting pick 1 is at the expense of a competitive culture then you can understand the hesitance to want to loose, especially after watching Melbourne sink into their current hole. Plus it just doesn't sit right actually wanting our beloved Saints to loose and premierships cost more than top draft picks.

No arguments here though! We've got pick one and we're sailing what seems to be a pretty steady ship considering Future Fest, no saints jumping ship and all the rabble around other clubs. We're aware of what we need to do and are willing to trade short term gain for our future (hence Goddard, Dal Santo and McEvoy). Lets use our currency while we've got and not worry too much about short term ladder position but also be careful not to get too enamoured by pick 1 (i.e. getting the spoon) and actually try to loose.

Okay thanks thought we may have something more give Griffen, Higgins and Cooney all gone or going
That was our dal santo, Goddard etc, we haven't given out any big contracts since then just spread it among the futurefest I imagine.

Only thing only Hayes has left this season the other would have had to be allocated as each team must pay 95% of the cap each season

Yeah, but the point still stands, it meant our senior players wouldve gradually had their contracts front loaded to ensure greater cap space later on. It would've been a transitional type process. So while we were strapped in 2012, it would / should be in a very good position now.

Apart from this Boyd noise, I wonder what else has been thrown our way today?
Would love to see what Melbournes intentions are.

It's been another slow day news wise really.

Only trade that got done was one that was pretty much confirmed on the weekend.

Need these Beams, Ryder, Griffen trades to get done to get things rolling.
