Anyone remember if Clint jones trained with us before we got him?
Doesn't look like it

2006/07 pre-season

St Kilda - Jayden Attard, Brisbane Lions; Cathal Corr, St Kilda; Chais Dunne, Casey Scorpions; Ben Fraser, Casey Scorpions; Ed McDonnell, St Kilda; Alister Neville, Coburg; Tom Roach, Richmond; Ben Ross, Gippsland Power; James Tyquin, St Bedes Mentone; Luke Van Rheenan, Scoresby

I've got a left-field suggestion for you, draft aficionados...

Calder's Reilly O'Brien, a 202cm 98kg overager; played a bit in the ruck and as a KPD, but notably went onto my boy McKenzie after he'd taken some early grabs in the late round game against Northern, and did pretty well getting a fist in to marking contests.

Had a bit of help that day but showed a bit of potential as a very tall KPD. Overlooked last year as a skinny ruckman, so nice to see he has other strings to his bow. Athleticism is excellent.

Got to admire you Uncle, with nearly 29,000 posts in this thread, you can still come up with left field suggestions. :thumbsu:

Could Haiden be our Issac Smith type? obviously sound a little different.

Stats look good but as they say stats aren't everything.. Desperately need pace in the middle

Should I know this guy? I have never heard of him

Graduated from the Joel Selwood Academy...

But yeah, averaged 23.65 possessions per game, which is pretty solid in a team that came 7th of 9.
Clint jones upgrade

I've been saying for months now that we should be looking at him. He's exactly what we need. He's:
A) extremely hard at it. Loves a tackle. Loves a bump
B) wins his own ball. Loves get in there and extract it
C) he's quick. Saw him burn off hilderbrant at subi, which isn't easy
D) knows how to kick a goal. Funny that someone posted the ducking picture. He certainly quacks. Something that I didn't find amusing against subi

Would be a good rookie get!!!!
Can he kick?

Cos ATM he sounds like a cross between Jones and Mav Weller...

Yeh didn't really stand out to me like wasn't elite and wasn't awful either. Was able to hit up targets after running the length of the ground, so he goes ok. Just don't expect his kicking to be dal santo like that's all

He's quicker than mav and jones I think

The thought of Pickett going to Gold Coast is scary!!!! If they do get Pickett I wouldn't rule out them drafting clem, like I raised a couple weeks back. Maybe even garlett.

Both would be significant overs but with the list they have they can offered that luxury. Plus they love their wa boys and have a need for both

Pickett is a crazy good talent from the highlights I've seen, no way he slips out of the top 10. Also, don't know why people have Duggan dropping he looks like a huge potential-type considering he obviously has some physical development to do.

For mine, you always draft based on quality, not need. But if there are players at our picks that are all about par on quality, then we pick from that pool based on need. And the priority needs to be outside run, followed by defensive talls.

Personally, I think the coaching staff have decided we stumbled onto a good full-forward in Bruce - originally a junior AA full-forward who the Giants had to reinvent into a backman. In fact, this makes him a bit like Delaney and Membrey: a good positional player hampered by other REALLY good players being locked into his position. But Bruce going forward means one less person down back. As such a tall like McDonald or Marchbank should be a priority.

But of far greater concern was our utterly terrible performance on the outside last year. In terms of clearances, often we weren't that bad. The problem wasn't our ins getting the ball, it was what we did with it once it got out. I think the good news of this draft is that there are bound to be some good sliders who are outside players. After all, there are about 7 or 8 "locks" in the top 20, such as Tracs, Macca, 2MP, Brayshaw, as well as FS and Academy players like Heeney and Moore. That leaves about 12 spots: you'd have to think one (or even two) of Cockatoo, Weller, Duggan, Langford, De Goey, Garlett would slide. Add to that the possibility of a tall defender like Marchbank, or even Goddard (although that's unlikely) sliding, and I think 21-22 could reap some nice rewards.

Hes had 86 free kicks, what is he doing to get them all

did you ever see hams play for west coast when he was there?

he taught shuey and co a few tricks...no surprise that hams is at south now

not saying thats how he gets all of them...but he's very good at drawing a free kick

Maybe we should look at drafting Setanta Ó hAilpín, he did just kick 116 goals in 20 games for Albury in the Ovens & Murray league...

Brendan Fevola only kicked 106 in 19 games...
