Need an experienced defender to guide young defence, Nick Malceski is a must! Shame that Stefan Martin looks to be off the table. We could sign Dean Cox for a year - 2 to teach Reg and Wittsy. I think that we need to super aggressive this trade / free agency period.

Massive no to Sumner, complete draft bust and a midget to boot.

Are O'Rourke, Jaksch, Plowman and Buntine 'draft busts'? They've all played less games than Sumner for one reason or another. Point of fact is that GWS has untapped talent sitting around, not because they are busts, but because of the sheer quantity of their early picks. Not every player can make it into their team and everyone comes on at different rates. Perhaps Sumner would fit much better into our list than at GWS?

Just don't understand the priority people are putting in getting a number 1 ruckman. Grundy and Witts more than cover our needs going forward in this area and we want them playing as number 1 ruck more, not less. Between the two of them, there's no way the workload is excessive.

Back our boys in ffs.

it says sumner is out of contract, which he isn't. dont trust facebook rumours, even less ones that cant can't simple details right.

Do you have Source he is Our or Not out of Contract.

Does not stop him going to GWS and Asking for a Trade though.

He is not in the AFL Side so don’t think they really want ti jeep him

"Collingwood and GWS have reportedly struck a deal that'll see former 2011 top 10 draftee, Liam Sumner move to the Westpac Centre in 2015.

Sumner, who hasn't been able to break into the Giants' lineup has played just the one game this season, bringing his current career total to 11 games.

The former Sandringham Dragon is out of contract and has alerted the club of his intentions to move home to Victoria for 2015, with his preferred destination, Collingwood."

Why wouldn't we want him. At 178cm he would have heaps of mates at Collingwood.
I wish we could have a recruiting rule at our club that ensures we get no more short people and only draft players with good foot skills.

Any chance we can add height with that wish list? Whats the fascination with smalls at our club

speed and skill is also on our wishlish so we probably can compromise a little seeing as we could be potentially getting a good deal here. i do agree it would be nice to add some height in there. moore is a start.

Wasn't guided by the number of games he's played when I called him a draft bust.
Sumner clearly hasn't lived up to the expectations of a top 10 pick and doesn't seem to possess any outstanding attributes.
Basically an undersized vanilla/foot soldier at best IMO.

It's worth noting that a possible target of ours, Stefan Martin, appears to be off the table.

From what I've read, Sumner hasn't done a whole lot, even in the NEAFL this year, despite being a top 10 pick.

Here's a profile video of Sumner prior to his draft in 2011.

We could have got Martin when we traded Dawes to Melbourne as he was moved on at the same time but we went for the Q Stick via free agency.

Well if we traded Martin for Dawes, we would not of got Broomhead

O'Rourke is the one I want to come to the Pies

Pace and ability to kick is an improvement; happy to amend to..
Got height, pace and can kick - grab 'em quick!

Edit: just had a look at his highlights and he can kick both feet, can't have too many of them, (even if he is small).

Agree we definately need pace, but we also need that combined with a bigger body.

Sumner has a lot of ben sinclair about him. Not that that is the worst thing, but if we were going for a small we need a goal sneak small. Is sumner that? I dont think he is.

I would say Sumner would be a Possible Upgrade on Sinclair and I think Sumner would play more Midfield

I think Sumner ticks a lot of boxes;

Pace
Skill
Young
Highly rated before being drafted
Has some senior experience

The obvious question would be apart from the injuries he's had, why hasn't he played more for a "weak" side like GWS.

A second round pick might be a fair trade, but based on recent form could the player Hine takes with that pick be better than Sumner long term? Likely.
