Three Magpies will begin the 2014 season among the AFL’s list of restricted and unrestricted free agents.

Swingman Ben Reid is the club’s only restricted free agent, while Tyson Goldsack and Nick Maxwell are unrestricted free agents.

Ben Reid is about to Sign. No One else would want Maxwell. Goldsack would be a Interesting one. Could get some Attention from other sides.

I can see Goldsack going, still hasn't locked down a permanent place in the team and opportunities for him will diminish in the next few years. I can see Richmond having a crack at him and Melbourne could certainly do a lot worse.
James Frawley being an unrestricted free agent probably helps us in keeping Reid (if he doesn't sign soon), as he would be a bit easier to pry away.

I wasn't told the price but I was talking to people in recruiting from multiple clubs that said that he has priced him self out of the market. They are allowed to discuss contracts but not sign or in fact be offered a contract

IMO we should let Goldsack go. Goldsack and Maxwell are both tall defenders but we should keep Maxwell because he is a better leader in defense. Goldsack has never really cracked in our best 22 and was lucky to play in the grandfinal replay.

IMO we should let Goldsack go. Goldsack and Maxwell are both tall defenders but we should keep Maxwell because he is a better leader in defense. Goldsack has never really cracked in our best 22 and was lucky to play in the grandfinal replay.

Maxwell is finished. He will hopefully retire at the end of this season (or if he wants to ride the carousel one more time, hopefully the coach has the stones to tell him no). I've always been a supporter of his, but you would have to be blind to see how bad he was in 2013. The game has caught up with him.

As for Goldsack, well, he might do well to explore his options under Free Agency or request a trade, because he's not going to be anymore than a spare parts player. I think his best bet would be to try recapture form as a forward ala 2012.

As a backman? Yes (well, Langdon maybe not quite yet, but he is more precise coming out of defence than Tyson). Add Oxley to that list as well.

Karnezis, while not fit right now, probably offers more potential as a forward than Goldsack as well. One thing in Goldy's favour is his tackling and pressure game, which is ideal in trying to help keep the ball in our forward arc.

I'm not saying we definitely need to get rid of him, but for the sake of his own trade (which is to play AFL football), he might be advised to seek opportunity elsewhere as a Free Agent if he wants a game every week...

Goldsack either locks down a spot in our best 22 (IMO he moves permanently into the backline/wing), or I bet he moves on. He's good enough to play a couple of roles at a number of clubs.

I really think he could play Maxy's role very well if Maxy were to get injured/play in the reserves this year.

You are not talking about the ruckman at GWS who struggles to get a game? Frawley is asking to much we should steer clear of him

Struggles to get a game? Hes only ever missed games due too injury. Underrated player who plays his best footy alongside another number 1 ruck.

Yeah Hurn does look likely to sign with WCE, but stranger things have happened.

Giles will not get a game, Boyd will Patton cover the second ruck role, Mummy will take the number one role. Doubt it all you want we will not sign Frawley if we did it would force out guys like Beams. Also why would we want to gt Giles? When we have Grundy and Witts next season they will be in their 3rd and 4th year respectively.
