So why have the Hawks, Cats & Swans not trained there... yet still won a flag.

Pies have arguably spent most on these type of adventures - for what?

As someone with an Accounting background, I would want to see a cost - benefit analysis, which is outcome based

The Hawks seemed to have hit upon the quite revolutionary theory that if a player can get really good at kicking a ball accurately to a team mate then 2 things are achieved ;

1. You can transport the ball exceptionally quickly and efficiently to goal; and

2. You can keep the ball away from the opposition.

It's quite remarkable and seems to win premierships

Whilst speed is nice, accurate use of the ball by quick movement is more important.

So many times the ball goes to the advantage of the defender when going forward. Even when a player is covered it is a good option to kick to space to their advantage. This didn't happen often enough to even let our forwards lock the ball in resulting in quick rebounds and getting caught out of position when the ball went back the other way. Smart and quick use of the ball was hardly seen. More holding up the play and waiting for a target that only got hit half the time. Hoping to see the new set ups provide better results next season. Increase the efficiency and decrease the energy used up chasing turnovers.

Cost. Probably the Trigg admin was ignorant to the level of facilities available and the benefits.

It will be interesting to see Fagan's take on it.

Hawks did kakoda. Maybe that has reaped rewards for those who did it.....


One could argue that Port had the youngest list to make prelims. Perhaps last year's Dubai trip fostered something.....

I don't think doing exactly the same thing every year is necessarily of benefit. But doing the right thing at the right time is.

I don't mind a trip like this. It has to be used wisely though. You would only want to do it with a core group you want to take you through to a premiership.

You would be wasting money of the whole list is too young.

If you keep doing the same trip all the time, I reckon it loses the mystique that gives it a mental edge.

I'm skeptical of the long term benefits of altitude trips. A grueling pre season has team bonding benefits. Altitude is one way to get tough conditions, heat is another. Although I think there are longer physiological benfits for heat. Elite facilities and heat would be the benefit of Dubai. But I bet Dubai isn't the only place to get this, I'd imagine Doha would have facilities given the sporting events they have bid for.

Ratten went to the Middle East, but he was sacked the following season. You would want to know exactly what you are doing and tailor the training.

No. I don't care about our running times either.

My only issue is us making an issue about minor, inconsequential things.

Yes I see the irony.

It reeks of a club that is not confident in what it does. So it guards everything closely to avoid the possibility of outside scrutiny or criticism.

The same way we made a point of covering up Port's race during our home games but they didn't bother. They understood that this is a minor thing that doesn't make a shit of difference to anything. Yet we wasted time on it.

Just wear our new socks, no one would have a clue what team it was out there. They would never guess it was an afl side.

Yep. For many seasons now the AFC coaching thrust has been 'kick to and win the contest'. The advantage of space has been 'lost in translation'.
