The NEAFL team could be very strong... Depending on our injury curse.

B: Harwood Merrett Beasley
HB:McGrath Hipwood Watts
C: Robertson Jansen. C.Beams
HF:Green. Close. Bewick
F: Lester. Schache Paparone
Fol:West. Keayes. Evans
Int:Smith, McGuiness, C.Hanley, Clayton, Paine, DP (hopefully Hartley), Rook (grimley Hawks), rook (someone to replace Hammelman).

When do the markets come out for the NEAFL ??
C.Beams is also a interesting one. When flying he is best 22 IMO, and his kicking is among the best at the club.

Surprised so many people are demoting Green to the ressies this year. Needs to improve work rate, but still one of our most dangerous forwards
One of the first picked when available, our leading goalkicker whilst being unfit and injured in a dysfunctional forward line. He would kick 50 for the Hawks.. Praise Odin we have him!

It could unfold like this...

DFA Whitecross
DP1 Schache
DP2 Keayes
DP3 Hipwood
DP4 Hartley (FB Coburg)
PSD ?best forgotten player of draft ala Rockliff.

Currently one rookie spot , but wouldn't b surprised if there is 2, Hammelman might be let go, really struggled this year and how is he going to ever get a game...

If 2 Rookie Spots... In order..
*Grimley (Hawks)
*overlooked small defender

We wouldn't have a PSD spot if we took those 5.

We've preferred to put academy boys on the rookies list too recently.

If we go Whitecross, Schache, Keays, Hipwood, I'd expect our 4th spot to be Chol/Wagner/William, and one or two of those on the rookie list... Unless there was an absolute bargain that the recruiters valued far higher... They've indicated this year that if they rank players at similar value, they'll take the local lad.

Gut feeling is making me think we'll take William late and let Chol head to another team or hope he makes it to a rookie slot.

I think Chol sounds more likely to get bids just on the basis of his athletic potential.

Not the other way around?
Chol just feels like he's a more likely rookie option. He's basically only getting rated off that final game and his measurables. As I said, all gut feel.

I agree.

I have no doubt that Chol's ceiling is very high. But I still see a lot of varying opinions about what he might turn out to be as a senior footballer. 198cm with a great leap can get you a senior ruck spot but you need to have other strings to your bow - getting lots of the footy around the ground or becoming a marking target. I've not seen him enough as a forward to know whether that's a real option for him. He might be a CHB long term but we have a bit of coverage in the KPD roles.

With his athletic potential and form line heading in the right direction, he could absolutely attract an early-ish bid. I'm just not sure we'd match it and, given that we may only have 1 list spot, I think we'd take the punt on him going elsewhere. That would be a real shame but the justification for the Academy system is that it produces footballers for the whole comp - at some point, we'll decline to take players who turn out to be guns. That is not a bad thing.

On the other hand, William looks to me like he will become a flanker at senior level. There are more spots on a list for the running players. I think it is easy to see William's Sudanese heritage and assume he is new to the game and quite raw but he's played the game for a long time and, from what I've seen, he knows his way around a game of football as much as any young Qld footballer I've seen.

in relation to Chol, in the article on him during the year he saw himself as becoming a tall midfielder? not sure if he is really being looked upon as that.

with william, so are you saying he's been around the game and played it for a while do you think his growth and potential isn't as high as people make it out to be given he really isn't that raw

Our forward line is too small, I think we r better suited using Christenson Zorko Rich... Greeny not physical enough and hasn't adapted to playing up the ground. He can certainly snag a goal, but in all honesty that's half his job, does one half well the other not so good. Won't hurt to rotate resting on baller thru his spot. Less interchanges will find out who can play this season and who's battling.

I wouldn't really say Rich is suited to the forward line or physical in any capacity. His work rate and chase is pretty poor too. If they can improve Greens fitness over the offseason that will help immensely.

Merrett, Green and C.Beams will be best 18 if fit.

If Keays plays round 1; I might be inclined to have a sneaky pineapple or two on him for the Rising Star ;)

Agreed. He's not going to fit the plans for every team, but any club that has a pretty solid ruck division right now - maybe an Adelaide or a Richmond - could afford to spend 2-3 years developing him. While they'd be up for a longish investment, it could pay off big time. It only takes one to bid.

Whitecross has just re-signed with Hawthorn. . .

Damn, kinda already got accustomed to the thought that he was coming to us. Won't begrudge a guy for staying loyal though, especially in his circumstances.

Before the national draft do we have to commit to taking someone in the draft?

One of our big problems is that we do not score enough goals. Green has shown an ability kick goals and has improved in this area each year after having a junior career as a midfielder. None of those you mention put any pressure on up forward and Green for all that he lacks some endurance actually does. I think this is a very important offseason for Green and working hard on his tank would certainly help him solidify his position but for until we have others step and show that they can kick goals there remains a spot for Green in the 22.

Christensen, Zorko, Taylor are all midfielders/high half forwards, not goal kicking small forwards. Rich has barely if ever played forward (maybe as a marking target late this year??).

When fit green is among the first 10 players on the team sheet given his role and structural importance.

Bundy or Zorko could take Green's spot easily but they're more valuable in the midfield.

Would have thought with no subs that all 4 of Bundy, Zorks, Greeny and Taylor would play, split something like 2 forward, 1 mid/wing and 1 on the bench and rotate something like that....
