Head Recruiter or scout? Wouldn't have happened to be a Port recruiter by chance? I'd be very surprised if most clubs would have it in that order if they were in the same draft as 18 year old.

Former head recruiter, now just works part time I believe. Not Port, has only worked with Victorian based clubs.

She has 5 from the top 6 players going to academy clubs. If I was cynical, I'd think she has an agenda.
She's pretty consistent in making up her own mind on kids. If she has a fault it's overrating kids on potential but she's definitely consistent and one of the more informative and informed draft coverers out there. Twomey will get more info from the clubs directly, but Emma will (IMO) see more of the draftees. Got a pretty good track record over the years of sticking by her own opinion.

Lol are you serious?

She watches these kids year-round and knows what she's talking about.

This article is not supposed to be a mock draft, it's her top 30 without regard to which clubs will take them. Any mock draft would start with Weitering and then Schache.

I have been his biggest fan all year but who's to say in 2 years time if North come knocking he won't leave they are going to need to restock their forward line by then just sick of losing players I guess so I'm a little disappointed to hear he wasn't a Lions supporter.

Matthew Lloyd was a Fitzroy supporter as a kid. If only he had insisted on a trade.

Seriously, which team a player supported as a kid has basically zero impact on their career decisions. The few AFL players I've known, once they get drafted they and their whole extended family starts supporting the team they play for. A mate of mine even changed club allegiance when he started working as Carlton's club doctor. I was shocked.

Emma Quayle is my favourite AFL writer - she's accurate, perceptive and fair. Cannot understand anyone who has an issue with her work.
I agree with fairness and perception but Hipwood is not rated ahead of Francis thanks.

I remember when Emma Quayle was slammed as a clueless woman when she put Stephen Hill ahead of of guys like Rich, Hartlett, Ziebell and Hurley in her 2008 mock draft when everyone else had him around the 10 mark.

FWIW, recently heard a recruiter at a lunch rate the key forwards of the past few years (from best-worst) as:

1. Boyd
2. Schache
3. Patton
4. Hogan
5. McCartin
6. Lynch

To be clear, he was ranking them on their draft year rather than who will end up being best (which he thought would be Hogan and Lynch by some margin). But said on their junior years, if you were drafting and all were in the same draft then most clubs would have it in that order. Not a Lions recruiter btw.
Cameron ???

That's just her opinion as she sees it. She may genuinely believe that Hipwood is a better prospect. We all have our opinions (mine being I would have Francis ahead of Hipwood like most people) but she might prove to be right in a few years. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a different view of the order

She has links to clubs so it's not like she wasn't out of the know. Regardless she has worked hard to get into the good books of clubs and it's because they respect her work. Also helps that she actually goes to junior games year round and gets involved with young prospects and their families when they are 16 years old so she has a chance to grow with them so to speak.

Easily the best draft reporter going around.

Unlike most journo's where you naturally take most stories with a pinch of salt, you know reading a Quayle article that more often then not she has done her research

Yep. I found all the "so impressive for a first year player" stuff about Hogan this year rather amusing.

Jezza Cameron must be sitting back shaking his head.

Hipwood has the characteristics that could see him develop into a star key position player of the AFL. I can see him being a better player at age 25 than Francis :thumbsu:

Time will tell with both, obviously
