Round 5
Collingwood vs Carlton

Odds on this will be on Friday May 1st. Anzac Day falls on a Saturday so Pies still get a 6 day break. We'll play our round 4 match on the Friday night or Saturday. This is also the game where Mick breaks the record for most games coached. Huge Friday nighter.

I've seen a number of people on both the main board and my board say that Essendon and Carlton are playing in Round 3- but when I've asked where this has come from, it's been crickets- no one has been able to show a source.

Does anyone here know anything?

...slim chance...
As far as I can tell it seems to be an assumption based on little more than the fact we always seem to play (2013 being the exception because of our 140th celebrations) very early in the season.

And if we've got Sydney Round 1, Hawthorn Round 2, Collingwood Round 4 and you're playing Collingwood Round 5, that only leaves Round 3.

They changed that R3 fixture this year and I don't think either of our clubs expressly asks for it. Will also have to consider we finished in the next section of the ladder and may only play you once.

We'll play Essendon and Collingwood twice. AFL only care about the $$$$. If they can manage it with their flimsy fixturing rules, then they will do whatever they can to maximise revenue.

If you needed any further convincing - look at the schedule for round 1

The interesting bit was that Caro's article also mentioned that Collingwood are playing Essendon and Richmond twice, but didn't specifically mention playing Carlton twice.

I suspect you still will the Pies twice regardless, but what I do think is that Richmond will play one of Essendon or Carlton only once.

I can't see all of Essendon, Carlton, Richmond and Collingwood playing each other twice.

Even though they should.

I'd take no games against a whole bunch of teams if it meant these double ups each year.

I'd rather we play 5 of Hawthorn, Sydney, Fremantle, Port Adelaide, Geelong and North Melbourne twice.

We might end up with 7 or 8 losses but over time develop finals intensity.

Playing 6 games each year against pretenders improves us zilch.

There is a good chance we will play you guys in round 3, we have played each other on many occasions in the past in this round. As other posters have pointed out we finished in the bottom 6 so in theory we are only supposed to play one top 6 team twice and more of the other bottom 6 teams twice. As Essendon, Collingwood and Richmond all finished in the middle 6 we are not supposed to play all of you twice.
But the AFL just do what ever they want so we will wait and see.
