Interested to know on what people think our draft targets for the 2015 ND will be?

The way our season is setting up, our first pick is looking like being a late one barring upgrades.
Personally,I think we'll continue to go best available for our first pick then needs after.

If we keep our first pick, and lose Sherro, or Crozier, can see another tall mid being called out.
Greg Clark, imagine the Pearce, Clarks in the one team. Another 190cm player who can take a
grab, depends on how they go in u18, and what pick we end up with.

I think they'll go best available like they always do. That's why we have the 180cm midfielder in Lachie Weller on our list, not one of the many 195cm+ KPPs that were still on the table, and we all assumed Lloyd, Bond & co would pick. They have never gone for needs first, can't see them changing their strategy this year.

Trade the pick for a player I reckon, not sure who exactly. Best way to keep the window open.

For example Port trading their first pick for Ryder. I would of done that in a heart beat.

I think there will be considerable effort put in to upgrading our first selection. One of the benefits of being a successful team is players value increase. We have quite a range of players sitting somewhere between 15-almost 30 on our list who could be attractive trade targets, especially for the likes of Carlton, Richmond etc. Clubs who would value a developed player who is still young enough to contribute for a significant period of time.

I also assume that we will have significant vacancies with Crowley and Morabitto likely losses and Basket already out the door. Significantly, that is 3 midfielders, while Sheridan and Crozier remain unsigned as well.

If there are trades in our favour then this is a good draft to take them.

Drafts are such a lottery. You can use a high pick on a kid that looks like a superstar but turns out to have lacky bands as knee tendons or uncover a champion at pick 60.

Throw the dice and what will be, will be.

I think we need to a have a mini rebuild. Sort of what Geelong have done over the last few seasons and try and get as many draft picks as we can. I would trade Ibbo, Mayne, Suban and Mzungu and hopefully in return recieve a couple of picks under 30. We have enough defenders to cover ibbo, Crozier comes in for Mayne and Sheridan and Weller come in for Zu and Suban. I think our team will still be very strong and when our veterans retire we will have an array of young talent to fill their shoes

Ummmm, I'm very glad your not managing our list!

Tall draft for us this year, definitely a tall draft for us this year. *clutches knees and rocks maniacally back and forward*

I think the lack of progression this year with Apeness may have us looking at a key position forward at round one or two. Unless we pick up something via the trade or free agency.

Want the old freo back :p, I'm sure back in the day this was a good chance of occurring.

Draft pick number is not indicative of true talent as each year there is variance on how good the available kids are. A draft pick of number 10 might be good as a pick 30 in previous years.

This scenario could very likely be on the cards. At the moment it's Tabs and Apeness,we need more young KPFs on our list.

A couple of players that were over looked in last years draft by all the clubs were Jesse Watchman 196cm and 90 kgs and Peter Spuling 199cm and 88 kg .
I don't know how they are going this year so if anyone has seen them playing this year I would love to know if they have improved or gone backwards .
Both of them had very good videos on the Draft list last year.

Do any of the regular WAFL watchers know much about this kid?

Dylan Smith
198cm/82kg
7/2/97
Key forward
Western Australia/Swan Districts
The athletic tall forward has caught the eye of scouts this season playing at colts level in Western Australia. He is a quick and hard-running option who can take a mark. Smith booted five goals and had nine marks in round two of the under-18 season for Swan Districts and the championships will give him the chance of impressing at a higher level. He offers some versatility as well and can be used in defence.

It has to be. If not draft then something involved in trade/free agency/whatever. We are setting ourselves up for a fall on the KPF front. KPD is fine but a serviceable but not brilliant 2nd tall in Taberner and a massive, massive question mark in Apeness are just not going to cut it. I know this has been said for about 3 years now, but we were always going to be fine while Pav was still there. The planning needs to start while he is though.

Probably need to look at a project ruck in the next year or two as well.

Would love us to trade up in the draft for a top 10 pick, but I think that's unlikely unless Sheridan/Crozier ask for a trade & we package something up.
Best available at 16/17/18/19 whatever we might get is likely the way they'll go.
Fyfe was a pick 20 so you never know. 1 more of him & 1 more Lachie please.

It is supposedly not the strongest draft with more midfielders and talls not that good, it might be one time to trade our first pick and a player, maybe two for a key forward.

Given how our recruiters went with pearce and taberner, I will back them to get quality at any pick. Apeness is still two years away from being ready, but we did reach for him according to some people so we have recent history of doing it.

I predict the foamers on here to go mental when the clubs doesn't draft a key forward in the the first 3 rounds.
I predict you are right! Probably the same people who have written Michael Apeness off as a key forward prospect at 20 years old.

Apeness was our first pick in 2013 at pick 17 and will probably take another two years to develop into a key forward if at all. There are no guarantees at the draft table, I like the policy of drafting best available.

If we do go for a tall with our first pick we will have to listen to tow - four years of criticism if he doesn't walk straight into the team. :)
