Also the funny part to me is if they want to go with this argument, then none of their players should play at lower levels because of OHS issues, or if they do get banned and have to have top up players, then they still won't be able to play cause of the OHS issues.

And of course if they are arguing there is OH&S concerns with top up players in the NAB Cup, how is that going to suddenly change in the season proper?

Hird got that contract extension literally a day or two after the AFL came hard down on Hird. The Dons showed deliberate defiance to make a mockery of the AFL's decision by extending his contract.

In hindsight, they should have let the heat dissipate out of the situation before making any decision on Hird's future. Mind you at the time he had the Dons as a top 4 team.

Drug assisted.

Where is it about training? This is about the pre-season comp isn't it?
I think its implied due to the grey area that is the infringement notice without a positive test.

In other instances athletes have been required to stop training and competing when an infringement notice is issued, and the penalty is backdated to that point. In Essendons case theyve been given an exemption from the AFL which ASADA have approved to protect the identity of players who have not yet been 'found guilty' or given a positive sample.

What is AFL's Plan C, if another Club is caught. :rolleyes:I have never believed that the Dons were alone in this, Im sure there were other Clubs just as guilty but maybe not to the extent of the Bombers.
The good thing for us is that our performances mean we'll never be under suspicion.

Didn't really know where to ask this so here will do. A few posters, including myself, on the North board have been interested in knowing if your club is running any kind of stream of the first NAB Challenge match seeing as though it's not televised? Has the Crows made any sort of announcement regarding this?

Nothing announced yet, but I'd think we would do it again (after having one from Alice).

No stream apparently, I think it was Katrina Gill from our club that mentioned on Facebook that it was the AFL who decided against doing a live stream because there is no stable 4G internet coverage at the ground for them to use.

Im not sure about that, the way they have performed over the past two years it would be nice to blame it on drugs albeit recreational, then just Sando.

Thats just rubbish and poor marketing of the AFL product to schedule the first game of the year in a place with poor 4G.

I wouldnt have minded if it was a trial game or the 2nd or 3rd game (is there a 3rd?) but not the first one, this has to be one of the longest waits I have had to watch an AFL game ever.

Kinda yes and no. The backdating is always to the date of the infraction notice, so therefore if they are required to stop training when issued with the notice, then yes the backdating does go back to that date that they stopped training. Officially it is the date of the infraction notice.

So essentially they ought to have a choice between privacy and backdating the suspension. If they continue training in order to preserve their not-so-secret identies, then they can't seriously be granted a backdated suspension because they haven't suffered the penalty that suspension entails.

Besides which, the privacy issues are a crock, just another tool to play the system.

The privacy issues are strongly worded in the code, that is a priority, but when you return a positive test then the privacy conditions are no longer available to you. I have no problems with that point, that privacy should be a priority in a case such as this where there have been no positive tests. The only reason they are not so secret is due to Essendon leaking the information to a journalist who has been their mouthpiece all along. ASADA and the AFL have actually maintained the privacy as per the code.

ASADA and the AFL were okay with the training in line with the code. If ASADA okay'd it, then I am happy with it as they have shown they have tried to be as much in line as they possibly can in this instance.

Okay, I get that privacy is a reasonable expectation as a matter of principle. But how can you exempt them from the requirements of a suspension and then back-date it? Surely it's one or the other? If the players are allowed to train but then get suspended and the suspension is backdated...what actual penalty have they incurred?

Here's a little tidbit people might find amusing due to the irony. In Portugal, or at least in the North of Portugal where I've lived in the past, performance enhancing drugs are often colloquially referred to as 'bombas', which translated means 'bombs', and athletes who are found guilty or are suspected of using them are called 'bombeiros' which means 'bombers'. This may seem made up but I swear it's actually true.

Know if they're going to film it and upload it later?

I can't find the post but I am fairly certain she said something along the lines of they were told there would be highlights available for them to upload from the AFL, but wasn't sure if they would get a full edit of the game to upload but that if they did they would or she would look into it. It was over a week ago I read this so I'm not 100% on the wording.

If we can get a bigfootier on the ground we could definitely organise a live stream if they already had a camera.

A few big ifs, but wouldn't be that difficult and I'd give the right candidate beer money for his or her trouble ;)

33, quick running player. No need.
Richmond will ruin him no doubt so at least we won't have this one rubbed in our faces for a decade.

Plus I hear Wigg can kick a drop punt. Always exciting to see something new.

Why doesnt someone who is in contact with Fages suggests for the Club to put the video of this game up on the website???

Surely this is the time of the year where marketing is crucial and having a game in some remote outback town is poor judgement by the AFL and by North and the Crows for not opposing it, although I assume they had little choice.
