The overrating of Charlie Dixon amongst Port supporters is massive.

I swear half of them have never actually watched him play outside of the times that he has played against Port. Half of the Port supporters last year thought they were getting a key forward when they recruited Ryder

A Port supporter on the main board suggested Dixon was a top 10 KPF

Well let's count the KPF's who are better than him in no particular order
  1. Tex
  2. Lynch (GC)
  3. Hawkins
  4. Cameron
  5. Kennedy
  6. Darling
  7. Tippett
  8. Franklin
  9. Hogan
  10. Roughhead
  11. Gunston
  12. Cloke
  13. Reiwoldt
I'd say he's a top 15 KPF

He has the potential to easily be top 10 if he stays fit.

And you missed Jack Reiwoldt

IMO he's in the second tier of KPFs with guys like Jenkins, Bruce, Schulz, Tippett, Petrie, Waite, McCarthy, Daniher, Darling.

He's good, but he hasn't proven himself to be elite like most of the guys you listed. Next season he could very well push for a top 10 spot, but right now he is not

great get for carlton, he'd just about be their captain.

If Triggy can maintain this, I may just be able to forgive him. Menzel was a great steal for us and now he wants our number 1 delisted plodder.

If Triggy wants to truly repent, then he needs to arrange a deal that takes our next best 3 plodders: VB, Hendo and Mackay. Come on Triggy make it happen! ;)

Some are rating him highly, this is true, as we haven't had such a big KPF since Tredders. But others are more cautious. I smile at how some opposition posters always embellish (on both sides.) Of course no Crows supporters are talking up Menzel as the next Wingard? Anyway Dixon's average GOALS per game this year was 2.56, same as Tex. Charlie (16G for 41Goals / Tex 23G for 59Goals.) The issue will be whether Burgo et al can keep him on the field for the majority of the season. I doubt he will play all games but he is a good addition. Port came close to getting into a GF with only Schulz and Westhoff as talls, and Schulz usually gets double tagged so the addition of Dixon is a plus. How big a plus remains to be seen. And there are so many other factors in success apart from having big player like Dixon, or Tex.

Charlie is a long way from Tex, surely you understand the difference in holding an average for 16 games vs holding it for 23 games? Plus Tex played on the best defender every week, often double teamed, the same way that Tom Lynch was at GC last year that allowed Charlie to kick many goals, he kicked 3 against the crows because he was manned up by Kyle Cheney who is 14cm shorter. Tex also averages 4 times more assists than CD, and 3 times more inside 50s.

Charlie Dixon compares to Josh Jenkins, not Tex.

I watch Dixon reasonably closely as he is in my team in a fantasy game I play in where player's scoring is the only stat that matter.

A lot of his goals are due to him winning a one on one contest against a smaller opponent. He is top four in the league for One on One contests. Tom Lynch generally draws the opposition key defender.

Is very static and like Tippet relies on height and bulk to win the ball.

Will be interesting to see how he goes at Port. He will shed at least five kilos and be expected to work up the ground a lot more. Which could take away from his main asset being winning one on one's. Is hard to do a "bench press" to mark a ball when you have just ran 50+m at full tilt to get into position.

Josh Jenkins is what Dixon will be turned into a Port. Or at least what the expectation is. Big tall strong guy who can cover a lot of ground and get into a F50 marking position.

Jenkins plays a lot more up the ground than Dixon ever has. He also has the ability to run and carry.

We get frustrated that Jenkins may not get many contested marks. But many times he has spent a lot of energy to get into that one on one contest and doing a "bench press" to win such a contest is hard to do after a sprint.

Yes I understand the difference. I guess I am thinking that Charlie's value to us will be the sum of the flexibility it allows us in our forward line but as I also said, time will tell his value, and if he can stay on the park. With good delivery from our quality midfield he 'could' do extremely well and he can only improve us.
