Interesting development.
From a Gold Coast perspective, it is the straw that broke the camel's back. They have sponsors that are getting a very rough deal and they have a culture (or a perception of their culture) that doesn't sit well in a professional landscape. This latest indiscretion is effectively the end of Bennell's career at the Gold Coast Suns, as he has run out of his last chance for the last time.
From another club's perspective, does this latest indiscretion actually change the situation? There are still details to come to hand but my understanding is that he was intoxicated, acting disorderly and got in an argument with a security guard (slapping the cigarette out of his hand). In the grand scheme of things, this is a minor incident. Other clubs looking at Bennell already knew of the difficulties associated with recruiting him. They already knew of the capacity for these incidents to occur. They would already have considered the ability of their environment to get the best results from an individual prone to these sorts of incidents.
My summary of this situation is that this will change nothing (or very little) for clubs interested in Bennell, but it changes A LOT for the Suns. The Suns will be forced to act, here, and that may mean they sacrifice a little in terms of what they get in return.
As such, IF we were interested in Bennell and IF we were willing to back our environment to get him right then this incident only means we are a better chance of getting him a little cheaper.
IMO we could potentially look at Bennell and GCS' end of first round pick for our first pick.
