A bit of a forgotten player is Daniel Capiron from the Stingrays. He has played some very good football this year, albeit as an over-ager, after a terrific under-age season two years ago (AIS squad member) and an okay year last year. He could be a good third tall in the Dempster mould and would be AFL ready to go in round one next year. If we do end up needing to use pick 63-ish due to some of the aforementioned trades, he should still be available, and being a local Stingrays player I'm sure he would be wrapped to come on board.

I find this situation extremely strange. Second year player that's had a taste of senior footy wanting out. He's naturally linked to the Blues given the Tigers are after Yarran. That trade seems to easy, I doubt it occurs. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if we are sniffing around.

Or since it's so easy it doesn't get done until the last 5 mins when the clubs shake hands and go "might as well do this one now" then rush the paper work as they've always done, being obvious or rather likely doesn't always mean it's a red herring.

Also, on last couple pages, common knowledge in the AFL is that the Pies are a club you want to deal with in trading, because they will engage in discussions and will pay if the discussions are deemed to be fruitful to them, talk that they don't or they're somehow shafting everyone is rubbish, bit of revisionism going on since Buckley's history is one of immediately refusing to go Brisbane, telling Brisbane he'll play his contract but that he's out, and then leaving Brisbane at the end of his contract, this is Buckley, not the Pies being consistent, and actual free trade with players since Brissie couldn't sell it to him to make him stay. Sure they may have then shifted with the Ball situation, but these are outliers, Collingwood is still a club you want to trade with if there is a trade to be done.

Widely known that you don't want to do this with Essendon though, because they will delay and string you out, then attempt to rush and lowball at the end which clubs hate, and like Carlton, overrate their list a bit, unlike Carlton though, this then translates into Essendon having to win the trade outright for them to entertain it in the early going.

All the posturing aside, there'll be fair comp for Freeman in the end.

From has been posted here, the medical staff at the Saints were very confident his surgery has fixed the hamstrings, but will be on a special program over the pre season.

I expect it is a longer term view and we may not see too much of Freeman in the seniors next season. It sounds like they want to be very conservative with him which is fair enough.

Get him right and he has 10 years in front of him, rush it and it could be game over.

Because Luenberger will get Brisbane a pick 3 and also the Academy kids. Probably end up 7 or 8 and that is why trading it for Carlisle isn't as bad. If we then get their second round back and use it on Freeman we actually get Carlisle and Freeman for pick 7 or 8. Seems good to me in a pretty ordinary draft.

Leuy will not get Brisbane a priority pick. He will need to get $600K x 4 years, no way anyone pays that unless it's Todd Goldstein.

Freeman was rated as an explosive mid who runs straight lines and was a bit selfish with his ball use, would rather kick it long than dish it off. No doubt he was rated a top 10-15 talent in a very strong draft, probably a top 5-10 in most other drafts. What's he worth now? Well Collingwood have played around 47 games since he arrived and he has played the grand total of zero. He has ongoing issues and may not play more than half of next season once fit.
If anyone thinks he is worth more than a third round pick then they are deluded.

Re Carlisle, quite simply, how are they going to pay him at the Dogs? Paying Boyd has totally destroyed their salary cap, he is the price of a Jack Riewoldt AND Nick Riewoldt, think about that! I also think they are paying their ex captain to play at GWS next year also.

Fair call Brian, I don't think the Bulldogs would have much coming off the cap this year would they? Only Talia potentially?
Looking forward to they will have some other big contracts to sign over the next couple of years to keep all their young guns together.

Am I the only one that doesn't rate Lennon? One of the slowest blokes running around, seems like a poor man's Tom Lynch to me. He won't transition into the midfield easily he has a really poor tank. To be dangerous as a mid sized forward you need explosiveness like Stringer, or a the ability to run all day like Tom Lynch. While he has nice skills it simply doesn't make up for his lack of athleticism. Big no for me. Would rather get games into Membrey. Shit, we may as well just have kept Sipposs they are the same kind of player.

FWIW, Tigers supporters do not rate him at all. This is not just a couple of mates that think that, apparently this is a pretty common theme on their forum all year. Personally I don't think he is a Richo type, applies NO defensive pressure. Would be surprised if we are that keen.

Well that's an opinion but Melbourne got one with 500K and 3 years. All talls get overpaid, ruckmen, backs and forwards especially with todays footy hardly requiring any of them. If it was me I would never drat a tall. I would trade for them but for some silly reason they cost to much. Only need to look at the game to see its now about mids. I wouldn't play Luenburger 300K but then again I don't rate rucks who don't the ball around the ground. I wish we would ruck Hickey ahead of all our other ruckmen.

I think people are attaching too much emotion into this trading business... fear of missing out and so on.

Reality is that it'swings and roundabouts. What you draft for and what you get don't always go hand in hand, especially when a player is out of contract. Players have done this for a while due to lack of opportunity or simply because they don't like the club that drafts them...

Cripps, Buckley and Rocca are 3 that spring to mind.

Then you look at Bruce, Membrey and Roberton, and probably Savage and Weller.

Sometimes we pay more, then we get bargains. It all comes out in the wash.

Not from what the media says and lets face it that is all we have to go on. And he was on less than 300k at Melbourne so he was allowed to jump ship.
