Luenberger is a crab. Worst ruckman in the league by a long way. I'd take Jonno Ceglar before I took Luey.... If some muppet of a club wants to pay him $500k a year, good on them. It will only help us, as their investment will be a spud & Longer & Hickey will be destroying him every time we play against him :)

If my club offered a 27 year old who has played 19 games in the last 2 years and is more injury prone than an inbred horse with 3 legs, if they offered him anything close to 500k I would be absolutely livid, if luenberger gets pick 3 for the lions we should've got pick 2 for losing gwilt

Do not want Michael Talia.

The Bulldogs have two needs as a team, a ruck and a KPD.

If Michael Talia was up to it, he would be staying a Dog. He is average-good on staying on his man and stopping him but can't follow team structure (so will never be able to play in a zone defense) and is very average by foot. Delany offers more offensively than Talia.

Pass.

Its true. I think some people are getting him confused with his brother. I fail to see how Talia is an upgrade on what we've already got.

I would not think we would want someone who is the Kevin Pietersen of the AFL. I saw him play against West Coast a few weeks ago and he refused to go anywhere near Josh Kennedy. Whenever Kennedy got the ball on an easy lead he would be hands on hips looking to admonish his teammates for not helping him out. Very overrated in my opinion.

Daddy_Barrels Is Talia the guy who played on Paddy in the VFL Round 11?

If so, he's not worth much
He is, and no, no he's not.

Big no from me; GOP at best and one that will now come - rightly or wrongly - with a circus attached. Something we don't need IMO.

If you want a KPD from Footscray, take Nick Coughlan.

EDIT: I checked out, as I usually do, how Inside Football rated his year, and I'm shocked to discover they've afforded him an average rating of 5.57 over his 14 games.

I haven't seen much in about 7 years to suggest Luenberger is a gun. Had a good third or fourth year but nothing much after. martin always rucks ahead of him because he actually gets the ball around the ground. Still think he will be offered enough money to unfortunately get a band one compensation pick. Hope that is wrong if we keep pick 5. If we trade it I hope they get band one. Not nice but who cares.

Before injury he was expected to be one of the best rucks of his era, it was going to be him and Goldstein, he just never gets on the park due to injury. He was a bit like Brodie Grundy though in that he showed a lot for a ruck man earlier than most. I reckon you would want to pay very little for him and hope his body is less prone on softer southern grounds. Someone like Essendon would do well if they got him as they aren't about to play off for a GF but could reload with a few guys like Leuy.

Just curious because I don't watch a lot of St.Kilda matches so I have no proper judgement on how highly/lowly he's rated.

Given it's looking like Freeman will be swapped for your second pick which is being described as us "losing" (not sure how given that's the only other pick outside your first one which would never be an option), would this be an acceptable possibility?

Freeman plus our second pick for Your second pick and Lonie? Or even just Lonie?

Again, just asking because I just went through your list on the Saints website to see if I could come up with a young player who wasn't a super high draft pick that has room to develop.

You've got as much chance getting Lonie as you would McCartin or Billings. Also, I'd be surprised if you ended up with our 2nd in a straight swap.

Absolutely no chance. Lonie was best 22 from round 1 as 3'5 skinny 18 year old. He only missed due to injury.

He was an outrageous steal at 41. (Still nothing on Sinclair as a rookie though. That will go down as our best value pick up ever.)

Lonie will develop into one of the best small forwards in the league, a local kid who has just signed a contract extension. He is untouchable.

If you would like another small forward on your list, perhaps direct your attention to Saad. We might do you guys a favour an attach him to our third - just to keep the good trading relationship with you guys alive and well...

Ok, like I said, that's what's being reported.

He was good a few years ago and was very promising, journos were saying what a bargain the Dogs got in him. I don't subscribe to the blanket crap thing. All coaches have favourites. Guys like Siposs and Lee might have had different careers if Watters was still at the Saints. Talia would be worth looking at as a cheap fill in as would Brown from Sandy. Both offer a bit more mobility and reload than Delaney and suit our slingshot reload game plan more. Ideally we get Carlisle but we do need to get someone with a bit more of a rounded game as a full back in. I actually have a feeling that while Carlisle is handy because we have 2 KPB swingmen (Goddard) that are around 200cm we might actually have 2 guys that are too similar in style and size which ends up becoming a weakness.

What leverage to Collingwood believe they have to take a top 25 pick for Freeman?

We know he was a top 10 pick but he's gone. We've priced you out of it, and will price other clubs out of him too. No team is going to gamble on a player that's only played 45 minutes of football in the last 2 years who can and most likely will refuse to do a medical. None. Part of the reason we poached him is because we recognised he would be a cheap get. And if he does believe he was grossly mismanaged by Collingwood the way its been alluded to, i doubt he's going to feel like he needs to repay the club and facilitate a good deal.

The best comparison I can come up with is Jamie Cripps

Cripps wanted to go home to Perth after his initial 2yr contract. Originally he was a pick 25 in the 2010 draft. He played 16 games in those 2 years, by the end of 2012 season was a best 22 player, & we received picks 40 & 43 from West Coast for Cripps & pick 45

Based on Freemans injury concerns & the fact he has played ZERO games & has only managed to get on the park for 3 & a half games of footy (VFL) in the last 2 years, I would suggest that, regardless of him being pick 10 in the 2013 draft, he is worth no more than our 3rd round pick (41) & a swap of our 2nd rounders (pick 23 >>> pick 25).... All things considered, he's still a big risk for us to even trade for given his injuries & he is out of contract, which puts his value at around pick 30-35 IMHO

Sure, the Pies could try to play hardball, but in the end, it's no skin off our teeth if we don't get him. We just turn our focus to Aish, Carlisle etc.

As I've stated on multiple threads i believe he's worth a 3rd round and a swapping of 2nd rd picks.
If saints or any club pay more than that their delusional
If any supporter from any club believes he's worth more than that then imo they're delusional also

If i can be bothered I'll respond to joffa later in a respectful accurate factual way

Never, ever throw up Lonie on this board. Tell your mates on the Collingwood board too.

You can have our third and Shenton.

ESFU

Elite Small Forward Untouchable

I think the best deal Collingwood would get and I'd be happy with (unless they show interest in a player we don't want/need and isn't worth a whole lot) is a swap of seconds and then giving them our 3rd rounder, also probably under the proviso we were going to trade that 2nd for Carlisle/aish or whoever

You know what I might even do a list for you to take back there. These guys are basically untouchable:

Billings
McCartin
Bruce
Goddard
Acres
Dunstan
Armitage
Lonie
Sinclair
Steven
Roberton
Savage
Newnes
Longer
Webster
McKenzie

Basically anyone that's seen as a future best 22.

A lot of players were expected to be good and a lot weren't and the opposite happened

The saints will never trade Lonie. Well not this year. Freeman will end up with the saints for a pick only I would think. We aren't going to give up a promising player and you wont want a player from our seconds. I would suggest you will only get our second rounder which will be around pick 27 or 28.
