Thought he slid because there was massive risk with homesickness

Whatever the reason I wish we had just let him slide on by as well.

Having said that, I wonder who we would have taken next?

Salem or Freeman?

Or someone else?

With the exception of Cripps they weren't altogether an inspiring lot after Pick 7. Or they have had injury /go home issues as well

1 8 McDonald, Luke North Melbourne Werribee VFL Father–son selection – son of Donald McDonald
1 9 Salem, Christian Melbourne Sandringham Dragons TAC Cup Mid first round compensation pick from 2010 traded from Greater Western Sydney
1 10 Freeman, Nathan Collingwood Sandringham Dragons TAC Cup
1 11 Sheed, Dom West Coast Subiaco WAFL Traded from Collingwood; free agency compensation pick (Thomas)
1 12 Lennon, Ben Richmond Northern Knights TAC Cup
1 13 Cripps, Patrick Carlton East Fremantle WAFL
1 14 McCarthy, Cam Greater Western Sydney South Fremantle WAFL Traded from Port Adelaide
1 15 Jones, Zak Sydney Dandenong Stingrays TAC Cup

Can't say I want either. Both have Berry going to WCE too so possibly a strong chance the guy I want at 16 is gone.

yep. their top 20 is very similar only 2 or 3 differences in who goes where.

Historically the two of them and Em's close-to-draft-night phantom's have been a pretty accurate gauge of what's gonna happen.

I hope we pick Ainsworth even if McG is there. I just reckon he is going to be a cannonball, but a very classy one. There is just something that says "I don't take any shit" but will back it up by kicking a goal and then letting you know about it. Think McG will be a Cotchin clone, good player but not inspiring. Thought of beast mode and Ainworth in the centre square together in 3/4 years gets me up and about.

Is Graham the guy who struggles to get over the ground? Not sure we need another of that type. If we are going to go with a big bodied mid, I'd rather sacrifice ball use than ground coverage. SPP or Clarke would be preferable in my largely uneducated opinion.

Don't really care about Ainsworth. More focused on making sure that this club doesn't eff up the draft by missing out on Allison and Watson

Sorry but can't back the recruiters in on this if falls this way. Think that most of us have expressed the need to really get these couple of drafts right. Lucky it'll be a Friday night and can drink my sorrows away. Maybe I'm overreacting but I spend my hard earned cash for memberships, go to games, try to indoctrinate my Qld sons for not only the great game of Australian Rules but the Lions and it's a bit hard when we habitually lose. Will have to wait and see I suppose. Bring on Friday night.

Why would that be a massive eft up? Not looking like either of them will be superstars. It's likely we'll pick them up anyway so long as they don't get bid on in the second round, but seriously it's not a massive deal.

I'm a lot more worried about what we're potentially going to do with pick 21+22 - after all the effort to get 4 picks inside 22 to go and choose speculative prospects that would have been around later in the draft anyway seems absurd.

McCluggage would be excellent. The other 3 of thomeys picks seem like handy types without having any sort of attribute to really set them apart from the rest of the pack.

yep, pretty slim pickings, definitely Cripps then after that probably Dom Sheed.
cripps was expected to go in the 20s but carlton jumped early
we had an agreement with west coast not to take sheed
we literally had no other choice but to take aish or mccarthy, quite a shame really

Wouldn't get too worked up about it just yet, hard to predict the draft from pick 15 onwards, especially if it's as open as a lot of people are predicting.

To put it in some perspective, think Twomey got 3 picks right from 16-30 last year.

Looking likely we'll end up with McCluggage:thumbsu: I'm not sure the likes of Cal Twomey and Brett Anderson will have much success guessing the selections between picks 11-30 this year so I wouldn't be getting too worked up about the fact that they both have us linked to Ridley and Graham. It appears to be the kind of draft where 1 selection can throw a huge spanner in the works and effect the following 10 or so picks. I could be way off the mark there but that is the impression I get. A fair bit of guess work going on from Twomey in regards to his selections in the teens based on his comments.

these are the players they had as still available at our picks 21/22 that may be better options-

Anderson and Twomey - Isaac Cumming, Sam Powell-Pepper, Willem Drew, Shai Bolton, Dylan Clarke, Josh Rotham.

there was only one difference in their top 20 Twomey had Gallucci in and Venables out but at pick 21. Anderson had Venables in and Gallucci out but at pick 21.

I'm not convinced about Allison - just too outside. If someone starts taking points off next year's second rounder I wouldn't be too fussed if we passed.

Will definitely be disappointed to miss out on Watson though.

Especially in the most even draft in over a decade, I feel like there is a general consensus on the first 18 or so (just in a different order), but after that everyone seems to have different players in the second round. I think pick 3 and 16 will be pretty safe, its just what we do with 21 and 22.

Pretty certain Cumming will end up at GWS given the number of list spots they freed up during the trade period.
