I wonder if he's trying to put off GWS from drafting him. Seems weird to continually be pumping us up.

it's just so strange to have a potential draft pick so openly saying he wants to come to us, IIRC Schache was not this bullish about a move north.

Emma Quayle on RSN this morning saying her top 4 PD tips are McGrath > Taranto > McCluggage > Ainsworth. looking more and more likely that McCluggage and Ainsworth could be still on the board at our pick.

every 10 minutes i change my mind on who i want out of those 2, we can't lose i suppose.

Draft selections aren't won or lost until some time down the track I guess. Don't know about the draftees but I'm feeling a bit toey.

I think it would have more to do with the line of questioning

Why do the reporters keep pushing Brisbane on him then? Especially when its seeming less and less likely that he'll be our clear choice at 3.

I'm just spit-balling but the question in this article probably originated from his comments to Cal Twomey about possibly coming to Brisbane.

Really wish we traded our first pick next year and Hanley for pick 4 and another pick from GC so we could have got McClugggage and Ainsworth.

This draft is giving me flash backs to 2001.
Hodge
Ball
Judd

McGrath
Ainsworth
McCluggage

Yep I'll be stoked with the second coming of Judd.

What McCluggage has a black belt in 'pressure points' in his bag of tricks?:D

lets hope we don't get the Luke Ball of this draft, he is a good player but pales in comparison to Hodge and Judd IMO.

It's crossed my mind too, mainly because of the Hodge/McGrath similarities. It's harder to draw analogies to Ball though to make it really work.

apparently next years draft is very strong as well, i don't think we will regret having 2 first round picks in 2017 and we could also need one for Ballenden which would have figured in list managements decision.

More talls than smalls next year apparently. For where we are at as a list we needed some more class around the midfield, we have some great young KP talent and Ballenden coming through next year. Would have been great to stock up on more class through the middle and get that extra year of development into them.

McCluggage will be a great player for a long time just hard to adjust to the probability of not getting Ainsworth when he has said many times he would like to play for us.

Meh - thinking, two years at the club where he is drafted Friday [if not by us] then he just requests a trade to where his heart is, at the Lions.

Isn't this how it all works now?

Ben Ainswoth just on SEN.

very mature sounding young man, confident and very comfortable in front of the microphone.

gave a big wrap to Sam Skinner for his professionalism and dedication.

he said- you can't go into a national draft with a preference of where you want to go.

family wouldn't mind me moving to where there is a bit more sun (suns/lions) than melbourne, sounded to me that he was not fussed where he ended up.

Looking more and more likely McCluggage will be a Lion. After watching some more vision though I'm secretly hoping Taranto is our man. He has great size, great evasion, can win the hard ball, elite around goals and has improved with every game this year. I can see why some recruiters are saying he could be the best out of this draft. McCluggage may be a bit more classy but IMO I have question marks over his body size... giving me some Aish vibes a bit.

McCluggage will be great in a team with number of inside/contested players...playing with us at present may not suit his game style

For me the signs were there with Aish because he won next to no contested ball at under-age level, which has become a bit of a red light (at least according to champion data).

McCluggage is much more balanced in this regard.
TAC Cup - 12.8 CPs & 15.1 UPs (45% contested)
U18 Champs - 9 CPs & 11.8 UPs (43% contested)
A quick Google search tells me Aish's U18 Champs split was - 3.8 CPs & 12 UPs (24% contested)

Yeah I know but I have queries over his body size like I had with Aish. McCLuggage is slender and looking at his wrist size and natural leg thickness I think he will struggle to add another 10kg that he needs at the minimum.

fair point...I m thinking more chances we end up with player like HMc ( style- ability etc) next year / again soon.. thn Ainswrth...even hoping Jacob Allison could develop like something similar to HMc

There are plenty of good mid prospects next year and I rate Worpel as highly as anyone who has come through in the last few years. He will be a bull inside with a pretty good game on the outside as well. He is a difference maker and someone I am already hoping we take.

Add Lochie O'Brien to that list.

I'm just going to add my piece on Hugh but as soon as we draft him (if we do) I will accept him with open arms. However as good as a season as he has I am wary, some have made Aish comparisons and I would like to add Jono O'Rourke to that as well. I am all aboard for Ainsworth obviously but I have been trying my best to be subjective and it's very very hard!

I don't think natural size and potential size necessarily have any direct reliable correlation though do they? And even if he does maintain a relatively slender appearance, that doesn't automatically mean he won't be able to significantly increase his strength. Core strength will be the big one.

He clearly is unlikely to ever be a bull, but I'm not sure we would him to be either.
