Add Lochie O'Brien to that list.

I'm just going to add my piece on Hugh but as soon as we draft him (if we do) I will accept him with open arms. However as good as a season as he has I am wary, some have made Aish comparisons and I would like to add Jono O'Rourke to that as well. I am all aboard for Ainsworth obviously but I have been trying my best to be subjective and it's very very hard!
Yeah I am very much on the Ainsworth train, but trying to be open to Hugh joining us!

To think that all this time i've been reading McCluggage as McLuggage. I've missed out on weeks of saying his name in a scottish accent in my head. Oh the disappointment!

This is pretty random but apparently Harry Morrison who is some chance to be taken late in the draft is Rocky's cousin.

I'm starting to get uncomfortable with Ainsworth's Lions love. I'm not sure he's even top 3 in the draft and if Hugh is available, I'd take him 100 times out of 100. Then the rubbish will start about the Lions 'questionable' draft strategy...

I'm a bit the same about Ainsworth but from the latest SEN interview it sounds like he has turned it down a bit which is wise. Could end up being embarrassing for the kid if it doesn't fall his way.

I don't think natural size and potential size necessarily have any direct reliable correlation though do they? And even if he does maintain a relatively slender appearance, that doesn't automatically mean he won't be able to significantly increase his strength. Core strength will be the big one.

He clearly is unlikely to ever be a bull, but I'm not sure we would him to be either.
Dunno. I have from experience noticed that generally the smaller your wrists and leg thickness the smaller the rest of your body is and will continue to be. Also strength is great but you would also want mass as well... more mass on you means your opponent will have to work harder to move you off the ball and generally the lower your centre of gravity will be. Give me someone who is 90kg over someone who is 80kg if they can bench, squat and deadlift the same weights.

I think a few people may be falling victim to how written articles stemming from an interview can be written to focus on an area that was only a small component of the whole interview. The question about the lions could be one small question from a longer interview, but if thats where the writer wants to focus then you can get a distorted view of how the interview was conducted.

I tend to think what you're hearing on sen and interpreting as a toned down approach is probably more representative of how his other interviews have gone down. The difference is you're getting the whole thing, rather than whatever the writer wants to focus on.

Assuming the last part doesn't compromise the aerobic capacity then absolutely.

I suppose one thing that does come in to play is a naturally slender person, even if they can put on muscle, will have to work that much harder to keep the muscle. Something that struck me about Browny's book was that he said he had to work genuinely hard to maintain his size. I can imagine this would be the case with many naturally slender players.

Heard Ainsworth on SEN today, sounds like a good kid. Mentioned working with Sam Skinner and seems to like Sammy. Also looks to be mates with Simpkin also (going by twitter anyway) so I'd be taking both with our first two.

You can't lose with either Clug or Ainsworth, I just think the intangibles point towards Ainsworth..

If I was picking between those two hypothetical players with equal numbers in the gym, even if you assumed that they were also equal in kicking ability, decision-making and character, I'd be looking at other issues like speed and athleticism rather than just weight - give me the better mover every time in that scenario.

You would go more the Travolta type

I believe it was implied, given ALL things are equal between two players, apart from their weight.

this draft discussion is very interesting but at the end of the day it is still a bit of a lottery, even in the top 10. here are a few of the recent top 10s, i'll go with 2014 as the latest as that gives us a bit of time to adjudicate the value of the picks.

It could be he knows he is not going to gws but is also wanting to make sure he doesn't end up at Gold Coast

Could be worse, spend a year down the road from his mates and then we trade him into the Lions for the 2018 season ;)

I know hindsight makes every pick easy but man, how did Tom Lynch not go in the top 10?

Or Cripps

If I had carte blanche to pick a team from scratch today both names would probably be the first two I'd pick.

Looking more and more likely McCluggage will be a Lion. After watching some more vision though I'm secretly hoping Taranto is our man. He has great size, great evasion, can win the hard ball, elite around goals and has improved with every game this year. I can see why some recruiters are saying he could be the best out of this draft. McCluggage may be a bit more classy but IMO I have question marks over his body size... giving me some Aish vibes a bit.
Aish was a highly touted junior who slid after other players went past him/because he didn't have the same sort of ceiling. McCluggage wasn't anywhere near as highly rated prior to a huge season this year, also gets a lot more of the ball than Aish did as a junior afaik.

Thought he slid because there was massive risk with homesickness

It's amazing to think we traded DOWN for arguably the highest rated kid in the country for a large part of the year, plus pick 16. Fantastic trade.

I'm still split between McCluggage & Ainsworth, especially after being so accustomed to the idea of Ainsworth. Friday night cannot come soon enough
