I really considered not saying anything due to this but no he's a good friend of Hugh's. Pretty excited tbh he looks the best of the lot imo - reckon he will surprise a few and have a pretty immediate impact across the HF line for us.

I still think we lack a genuine elite inside mid. McCLuggage or Ainsworth I don't think will become it if we drafted either one, Jansen and Lester would be lucky to be on the list after their current contract and while Mathieson looks good for his age he lacks class and fitness. I'm hoping we can nab Worpel next season... He looks like one of the best inside mid to come through in a few years instead of reaching for Graham.

Agree that we need to add a genuine contested mid still, and suggested earlier in this thread (when Clarke was mentioned), that we could hold out another year, as Worpel could be available or someone similar. These type can generally contribute early too, so we can afford to be somewhat patient.

We need to be mindful of the skill level, fitness and pace of the midfield we're potentially building. Like yourself I don't see him as a decent fit for us

Edit: Wasn't meaning to compare McCluggage and Graham as Similar players, more the our recruiters might want to add to the midfield in some capacity and he potentially fills that

Feeling similair. If it was just looked in isolation with McCluggage then we should all be stoked that the best juniour in the land comes to us. Not pessimistic but I'm also looking at the next 3 picks as a collective to our draft and how I'll feel. Hopefully as good as last year!

I'm intrigued as to why this collective thinking has developed that GWS are going to bypass McCluggage to take Taranto, especially as MCClug was almost universally regarded as the likely #1 Pick until the last couple of weeks.

What unique qualities does Taranto possess that make him so much a better fit for GWS than Clugga??

They have a stacked midfield but with Hoskin Elliot and garlett gone they could really use a mid sized forward who can rotate through the midfield, especially after Stevie j goes

If this keeps up we will have all the real fringe/undrafted type kids pledging their allegiance to the Lions in a few years
