List Mgmt. 2016 Draft - It was on last Friday.

Hugh McCluggage seems like a FJ pick, 185cm smooth moving midfielder. More of an outside HFF at this stage, but kicked 5 and had 30 odd disposals today. I reckon he'd be available at our first pick.

This is what worries me.

I do not want to know what player could be a FJ pick.

I prefer to know who is best available at when our draft picks are

They will apply spin, stable club, half step back this year and two steps forward next year bla bla bla.......

The clubs focus at this point in time should be squeezing every possible ounce of talent out of our current kids with eyes firmly fixed on bringing in more talent at seasons end not a gimmick like a women's team. Don't like the timing of it one bit.
Don't stress the nwl will pick Collingwood .

We wernt talking about positions these players were in, just the size they were drafted at and if they were 'runts'. The point was Vlass, Lennon and 'B' Ellis weren't runts when drafted, so its not like we have gone after skinny players all the time of late.
Agree we have brought in some bigger bodies, but in the midfield we look to be relying on smaller types like Miles Lambert & Titch. I want to see bigger bodied types that can actually get into the midfield and go about winning their own footy, use it wisely and when they don't have it be accountable and strong enough to ensure their opponents don't get it easily.

I don't know, I don't think we'll get a top 3 pick for that matter! I think he's top 10 at the moment in my view :thumbsu:
Quite possible we won't be far off it.

Whatever we want , position wise, player type wise, and I have wrote this in the past is dictated by the player candidates in the draft, or should be, IMO, to be successful.

In other words if we want a good CHF and there are no quality CHF candidates one should not pick them. This is why IMO the draftee candidates pick themselves and one has to go best available.

So we might prefer this or that but if the class player is another type you still have to pick them to succeed even if it means one might have to trade them for another or more later

I just want to see decent stoppage/clearance players added to our list. I get the love for the big beasts such as Danger, Fyfe, Kennedy etc.. but there's lots of really good smaller contested ball winners- Hannebery, Mitchell,Sloan, Prestia,Libba and Shiel come to mind.
just get genuine mids capable of winning contested ball with good endurance levels.

Absolutely, just saying that we have drafted better built draftee's, not just skinny ones.

If we ended up with a top 3 pick would we be willing to trade down to say in the 10's so we could add back a 2nd round selection. This draft isn't high on top end talent but has a spread of good prospects until about the 30's or 40's. So I believe it's in the best interests of the club to maximise the amount of selections we have in that Top 40

A lot deeper than last year- very even first round at this stage. Lots of midfielders/ruckman compared with the key position players we had last year.

Pick 1 is over rated.
Well IMO it is when KPP are taken.
If we get pick 1 we need to take a midfielder.

I would not be so sure. If we get pick 1 we could come up with some genius list management moves involving other clubs because we know who we can get with the pick in the draft and what we can orchestrate over the next 3-4 years that can favour a number of clubs including us.

Who is to say pick 1 would be our only pick in the top 5 for example if this suits us and others?

Plus also 1st pick in pre-season draft?, rookie etc..

If we are ultra smart about this getting draft picks in this year is very good because many clubs including us have traded them out leaving GWS and Gold Coast with a heap of this years picks. This means getting good players in this year apart from the expansion clubs in general gives us a competitive advantage in terms of future windows not to mention the link with 2017 which is supposed to be very strong

I would love to get a big inside beast like Patrick Cripps (cheers Lennon).

I think we need that and also more outside speed, although I think the speed is on the list Menadue/Rioli ect we just need to develop it.

We need footballers ,by that I mean smart skilled players who choose right options, see how the play is unfolding and don't panic under pressure
Our side at the moment is infected with dumb panicky twits and momentum killers
Good scouting would reveal who these players are in the TAC .these type of players generally stick out like dogs balls

Having said that ,you can almost guarantee we will pick the short sighted ,highly strung thalidomide affected kid who is 23 kg wringing wet because he is of good character and was nice to an old lady once
