Exactly right - much deeper than last year

All states are strong other than tassie by the looks whereas last year only vic country were above their average

need to get our second rounder back !
!
Have a feeling we will

I'm having second thoughts about Neale. Think we need a bigger bodied midfielder. Loving the sound of sa's j graham.
Only problem he's a man/child i.e. already very well developed physically so may not have the 'upside' some of the other highly rated youngsters have?

Agree - think can do way better talent wise but need to see more of him

I've been saying that we need to get a ruck in the 2nd round if we can get our pick back, but boy, there are some talented mids/smalls in this draft:

McCluggage
SPS
Ainsworth
Brodie
Venables
Gallucci
Scharenberg
Graham
Clarke
Polholke
Taranto
McGrath
Simpkin
Drew

If we could grab two of these guys (with guys like Luggage, SPS, Brodie obv. unlikely), I'd be very happy.

There's others as well, like Parfitt and SPP, but I'm not quite as bullish about those guys.

Before worrying about being fair or not, has Jack Steele indicated he would move clubs and would he come to Adelaide?
Well he can forget getting a full time gig in his home state NSW at the GWS or Swans, not because he's not good enough it's just both teams have ridiculous midfield depth with even more coming through. So I'd say yes if he wants a full time AFL gig, which I'd be pretty sure would be his burning desire.

One can dream, Sam :D

Seriously though, he would be silly to think he'll get more opportunities at GWS than at us.

Hopefully someone at the club is working on trying to convince him to make the crows his club of choice. :thumbsu:

I might add this year's draft looks to bat very deep with quality mids, so then it will come down to assessing Jack Steele against them, one thing he has over almost all of them is he's AFL ready now and if we believe we are contenders in the next couple of years that would bode well for him on that basis.

He's only 20 (21 next year), so his age fits well with the now and future development.

Think what we really need is a taller mid with strong athletic prowess & X factor + pace that can kick the ball 50+.
Curtly Hampton

Possibly another midfielder that you don't find beyond pick 5, someone that can get the hard ball as well as the outside ball & be damaging in both areas, contested marking ability is almost useless with our game plan, we rarely kick to contests especially in the middle of the ground, our game style is play on + run & carry.
Brad Crouch

Another winger that can pinch hit in our forward line as well as working their way through the middle with precise kicking, maybe a left footer? Would be cool having another left footed mid with Atkins and Crouch.
Menzel

So these 3 players have played 3 games total for the crows 1s this season.

I'd say we draft best available in the first round then go for some KPF's.
Keath is our backup for Shaw.

I think the ideal scenario would be to draft a Patrick Cripps/Bontempelli type, possibly even throw Clayton Oliver in this mix.

A midfielder with a massive frame who are just so fierce at the contest that they are immovable. Lightning hands, good vision and good agility with decent footskills for an inside mid. Obviously players like this don't grow on trees, but this is definitely the type we should be after.

Jack Steele would be great too obviously, he's a very solid kid and reminds me a lot of Callan Ward funnily enough. He's probably the next best scenario after that.

Well you basically described Will Brodie, who we're only getting if Jenkins leaves for Bris and we get their 1st pick in return.

Don't think there are any such players in this draft let alone available at our pick, Will Brodie, Will Setterfield [GWS Academy] possibly the closest fit, Tim Taranto maybe, Daniel Venables maybe, Jarrod Berry who's currently playing in defence for the Rebels locally is one that could eventually transition into the midfield I feel.

The lad I'm real bullish about is only 178cm Andrew McGrath but that wouldn't stop me drafting him, he is the real deal and today's efforts only re-inforced my thinking.

Need to get a better read on Taranto's defensive skills, but if they're good, I reckon he could well become one of the better players from this crop. Him and McGrath are two very rounded players.

Emma Quayle's detailed take on the recent Round 2 of the U18 Championship Matches between SA & WA and Vic Metro & Vic Country.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-ne...-two-of-the-afl-under18s-20160612-gphcv3.html

South Australia had a big win over Western Australia at AAMi Stadium on Saturday, making it two wins from the first two rounds. They kicked 12.10 (82) to WA's 6.9 (45)

Jonty Scharenberg warmed into the match and played with more influence the longer it went. He finished with 29 disposals (17 kicks and 12 handballs). His game included six clearances and six inside 50s.

Fellow midfielder Jack Graham was again prolific for SA. Strong around the ball, he got them going early and finished with 34 possessions (nicely split between kicks and handballs) as well as four clearances and seven inside 50s. He worked hard to stay involved in pieces of play.

The son of Darren - Ben Jarman - was very classy. He's not quick but never really got caught. He made some smart, sharp decisions, kicking the ball well and scoring one goal in his 17-possession game.

Monday's game was a thriller. Vic Country took control of the game in the third quarter and led by 20 points at the last break. But Vic Metro didn't go away, hitting the lead for the last time with 70 seconds to play and holding on for a two-point win in their first game of the tournament. Metro won 14.10-94 to Country's 14.8-92.

Andrew McGrath was fantastic for Metro, around the ball and in defence. At times he took the game on by running and bouncing. Then three times in the last quarter he beat Ben Ainsworth in three one-on-ones, once spilling a ball on the Country goal line and then taking two marks at half-back.

Dylan Clarke (brother of North Melbourne's Ryan) won a heap of the ball and was particularly impressive at centre bounces. He won the last one of the match.

Gavin Brown's son - Callum Brown - topped the Metro stats sheet with 27 disposals, five tackles and eight clearances. He kept himself busy all day.

Daniel Venables is a brute. And he was important when it mattered, setting up one goal with a neat handball then clunking a strong mark late before kicking the winning goal.

How does Daniel Vanables projects in terms of pick range?

Are we any chance of being in the mix to get him with one of our pick?

I will admit I have never seen him play but the description of him as a player just sounds like the type of player we would be all over. Description is almost identical to a young Dangerfield.

Would be great to get a quick brute of a lad in the draft.
