Bulldogs have been linked to Simpkin if rumours are correct, but that's at (pre-bidding) pick 18.

There's a bit of Stringer about the whole situation - rated around the top five at the start of the year, combination of a broken leg and a lot of guys having really strong years has him as a bit of an unknown now. Stringer at least was able to get back for the end of the TAC season and the combine.

Yep, lucky for Jake he got back to playing some football (and it was his VFL form that put his name up in lights again, despite a horrible limp).

Simpkin I guess is a different prospect being smaller and not having the same chance at the back end of the season, but from memory Ryan Burton also didn't get back / test at the combine and the Hawks still rolled the dice. Burton's looking good thus far too.

After last year's draft, there was a plethora of posters & keyboard 'experts', assuring me that Burton's injuries meant, that he would never make it back to play at AFL level.

Young blokes with 'green-bones', that are still growing & capable of 'knitting' back together, don't necessarily conform to the usual stereotypes.

I heard from a good source that prior to the season Port planned to rookie Willie Rioli.

I'm just guessing as to how his strong season and slimming down will affect Port's plans and Rioli's draft stock but I assume Port will still be keen.

I would hope we would have a crack at him with one of our late picks. Saw quite a bit of him this year and reckon he could fit into the AFL system nicely

No other player won the Morrish medal, his club's B&F and claimed All - Australian honours in a starting on ball role.

Best season =/= best player in the draft. There are a few Morrish winners who have thrived at the next level but also plenty that haven't.

Im just dealing in facts man. Sure, a guy like Jackson Sketcher won the Morrishbut he didnt win AA honours or a guy like Andrew Hooper won the Morrish but not his clubs B&F.

Of the guys in recent memory, Hugh has performed above and beyond all other guys in there draft year. 29+ possessions per game, 2 goals a game, 4.5 tackles a game (iirc).

Each to there own. A half back flanker can be found anywhere in the draft, a top shelf goal kicking midfielder is nearly always exclusively found in the early stages of the draft

I prefer McLuggage too, but individual accolades won at u18s level don't exactly correlate to the best prospects every year. If you're going to use them, then McGrath averaged 33 touches a game, was great at the champs, won the medal in the GF with 38 touches and clearly has the scope to be more than just a run of the mill back flanker.

Simply talking about the hear and now still. McCluggage wasnt even apart of the NAB Academy at the start of the year.

With the saints being number 1 drafters for 3 straight years now, expect a fourth. Whoever we get at 23 will be a gresham or an acres. Best recruiting team in the league.

You're forgetting the reigning premiers.
From 2013?
Fair point although the father sons were amazing!
JJ was amazing find. Daniel was gutsy move. Bevo keeping the older blokes happy and culvinating the group was the edge.
Saints list end of 2013 was fitzroy 96 bad.

I don't think anyone is easily the best in this draft, if it was the case we wouldn't have had to debate who goes pick 1. Heppel had the same accolades and was never rated the best player in the draft in his draft year.
