do you see your mob taking McCluggage, Ainsworth or the late tip Taranto at 2 in the McGrath at 1 scenario?

Would assume it would be Tarranto, Ainsworth a possibility. As good as McCluggage is, GWS have a ton of those players.

i guess its how you look at it.

see for mine if the bid comes in after 10 then that's their perfect result because they get 5 top 10 kids this year. yes their 2017 first rounder drops back however its still going to be a first rounder. the benefit is the five 2016 kids get in their program now and start their development.

sheer is predicted to get a second round or worse bid so any deficit would come from that round. they still get him if they want.
Yep. The longer term view isn't as rosey.

Say, Gold Coast don't pick him and he gets a bid at pick 12 (1268 points - 20% discount = 1014.4 points in deficit)

If Gold Coast finish in the same position, they have pick 4 (2034 points) - 1014.4 points = 1019.6 points for a 1st rounder. (Pick 18)

Basically, moving from pick 4 to pick 18 in 2017 for Bowes or use pick 10 this year for Bowes and a chunk of a Brad Sheer bid.

May go to the Dogs with pick 18 but can't see him going at picks 12 and 13, way too early. Most draft their is a major riser.
Sadly, I think it's going to be the Lions this year.

Conole has come out and said that we're taking fairly mainstream picks at 3 and 16, but that our picks at 20 and 21 are likely to be roughies. From memory, I think the quote was something like "might not be among those considered top 30 on the media boards".

Given that 20 and 21 are our last live picks (excl academy), it could be anyone that they rate from anywhere in the draft. Makes me concerned when we've been linked with guys like Tom Stewart. I really hope that's as a rookie prospect.

Of course, I remain hopeful that it's all a big fakey...

StKilda picked Nick Winmar purely because of his name.
Boekhorst comes to mind more recently.
Yep, but all those players were still known. As far as I can tell nobody even expected Sier to get drafted as a rookie, let alone at pick 32 :drunk:

If the Dockers pass on English, could he slip entirely out of the first round? I'd imagine both Adelaide and the Dogs would be interested in a young gun ruck, but they would surely be prioritising other players. Has anyone heard of other clubs being linked other than Freo?

I'd imagine Carlton would look at him at 25, but he'll be well and truly gone by then.

James Walker - Pick 6
We have a heap
Tim Walsh - pick 4

Career AFL stats: one game, one kick, one goal.

The Bulldog 'talls of shame' is a horrific read.

He trained with us at the start of his draft year and we were set to use a late pick or our first rookie pick on him.
Sometimes a few recruiters rate kids the BF community don't.

As someone who supports the team with the pick directly after those picks at 20 and 21, that is music to my ears!

Didn't he get drafted because his old man was an executive at the club?
Quite a few recruiters rated him, just nowhere near pick 4 but we were desperate for talls so 'reached' for him.

Actually the only pick we didn't completely screw that draft was pick 20 (Minson) who we drafted as a KPF. Drafted was a lot simpler back then but jeez we had some howlers. Didn't help we anointed Cam Faulkner (pick 17) "the next Andrew McLeod".

Not talking about recruiters though, or the BF community. The AFL and Age websites didn't even have any info at all on Sier to post when he was drafted. Even most late-rookie prospects have a short write up ready to go on draft night about them.

We might have mucked up the Gibbs trade, we might yet have mucked up Jarman Jnr shenanigans, but I'm much more certain that we mucked up pick 17 last year.

We only took Doedee with pick 17 because that was our last pick in 2015 ND but reckon we could have swapped 17 with another club for say a late 20s plus a 2016 pick upgrade and still drafted Doedee. We weren't thinking there!

I don't want to start another shitfight between Adelaide and Carlton posters, but Reid seems pretty inexperienced and uncreative.

As you say, probably could have downgraded pick 17 and picked up an extra pick and still got Doedee.

With the Gibbs trade, didn't appear to try to engage a third club to make it happen...the only offers we hear in the media and rumoured on here were Adelaide offering assets they already own.

When the Gibbs trade fell through and Adelaide announced they were happy to hit the draft, they literally just ended up taking their picks to the draft...no effort to engage in some pick swaps, obtain pick upgrades etc like some other clubs did eg St Kilda with Hawthorn.

Did he do much last year?
Nope. Injured for the majority of the year and when he did play he showed flashes but was so unfit that he didn't really get much of the ball. Couldn't really run games out. He's undergone a bit of a transformation over the past 12 months physically, much like Cripps did in year 1-2, not holding my breath that he undergoes the same playing transformation though lol.

Not a rumour but I have thought of a way to make drafting more interesting.

Speed drafting.

It is just like the normal draft as we know it now, but instead each club has 20 seconds to make their selection, and if they take 21 seconds they lose the draft pick all together.

You could have but that would have inhibited your trading in later years with the 2 in 4 rule for first rounders, if your recruiter takes the best available at the first pick you just have to back them in.

Biggest mistake in the book.
We need a "Tall/Pacey Wingman/etc etc " there are no good ones in the draft but lets pretend there is.
