I'm 100% on the 'Taranto at #5' bandwagon. He's exactly the type of player we need.
Even more so if we trade Gibbs.

His ability to tap into the GWS factory & obtain high draft picks from previous drafts is a sound strategy, given our failure to nail enough draft picks in previous years.

There's a lot to like about Taranto. Appears to be very good in contested situations. Strong through the hips. Good when the balls on the ground or in the air.

Only problem l see with him is his kicking. It's inconsistent. The timing isn't quite there. Not as fluent as ld like.

He might become an inside midfielder who is just an ordinary kick. I think that might be the key, if he's going to be quality needs to be strong on the inside at afl level as his kicking could become a problem if he isn't.

Haven't seen alot of him but left with those impressions.

Does anyone know how Brodie tested in terms of agility? I can't think of a time where I've seen him sidestep someone.

Good straight line speed though for a player of his stature and position, but you can't bullock through everything. It's actually poor enough to be of concern.

Do we have to trade Gibbs to be able to keep pick 5... The pick 13 will allow us to use that in the GWS deal but i fear that if we dont get the Gibbs deal done then we will be forced to use pick 5.

I don't think we do, I think GWS are just posturing due to mild concerns about the free agency and academy systems in 2017.

If we put our 2nd rounder and a future 3rd on the table, that's a good starting point. All this talk of #5 and other picks is clearly built around pick swaps to maximise draft position.

Taranto helped turn the game Vic Metro's way in round two of the under-18 championships, when he shifted forward to kick three goals against Vic Country. The Sandringham Dragon is a really good size for a midfield option. He runs a beep test above level 15, has filled out, can win his own ball as well as get it on the outside and provide some dash. Taranto's finishing skills are of a high standard and means when he does go forward he provides some polish.

Would suit: Goalkicking midfielders push themselves up the draft board every year, so Taranto's ability to play both roles well will aid his chances of being a top-30 pick.

That's interesting. Hopefully what l saw wasn't a true representation of his skill.
If he's a quality kick he will be a chance at pick 5.

Yeah we will banking on his delivery/finishing skills if Bryce (and Tuohy) gets traded. Serious lack of polished footskills at our club

There is no way I can see teh Club giving up pick5 - unless it is part of a small downgrade as in 1-2 positions or 1-2 very high with plusses on the player side.

I reserve the right to change my mind IF a gun like Prestia or JOM suddenmly comes into equation.

Sounds more like he's referring to Taranto's goalkicking. I've only watched the All Stars game and he kicked a bag in that, but also fluffed an inside 50 kick & nearly stuffed a certain goal before getting it off to McCluggage.

He's perfect at this stage for us. We need players who can win the ball - Taranto does it on the ground and in the air

His kicking isn't elite, but I don't see it as an issue. He has all the attributes to become an A grader

At least he knows where the goals are and isn't afraid to have a ping. For that alone he's got my vote!

He looks pretty decent already. A couple of preseasons in on the weights and he should be a beast. Now all we need to do is retain Pick #5 and actually pick him ;-p

Even his handballs lack penetration, his left side is even worse. For a guy that is an inside mid, his hands aren't great when distributing the ball

I might watch the highlights of that nab u18 game he played in recently to get a better feel for his game.

The top 5 consensus appeared to be mclugg,McGrath,Ainsworth,sps, Brodie.if Taranto fits into this group it makes pick 5 that little bit better.

To me it has started to feel like the following is likely.
1. Mcluggage likely number 1.
2. McGrath - GWS want him off half back
3. Ainsworth - reports brissy keen
4. Brodie - GC want inside midfielder

I think pick 5 could be choice between sps and Taranto. I think the pick that is most difficult to predict is brisbanes. Now that Rockliff could leave will they opt for the inside midfielder in Brodie. Brisbane could pick either Ainsworth, brodie or sps. I think it's easier to predict what the other 3 clubs will do.
