Todd Marshall will be in the mix as well for our pick. A lot of players have jumped ahead of him in the draft with the likes of Logue and Taranto. Nic size and we have a habit of developing talls very well. He's one I would love to take if he's available. Venables im still not sure about. Jy would be a nice pick up at 13. Same with Jarrod Berry.

Wouldn't think he'd play any AFL next year and only a maybe in his 2nd year. Do we need a 3rd tall at this stage because it's pure conjecture he'll make into a midfielder on anything I've seen? Certainly wouldn't use our 1st on him and we don't have a 2nd.

The three I favour with our 1st pick in order of personal preference are Jarrod Berry, Sam Powell Pepper and Daniel Venables. IMO Jarrod Berry and Sam Powell Pepper are near on certainties to get games in 2017 and Venables a maybe with his history of injuries and missing major parts of the last 2 seasons on the sidelines.

All 3 have multiple strings to their bow and all are tough, uncompromising types with a thirst for the contest, won't ever see these blokes take a backward step.

Would be rapt if Willem Drew was still there at pick 43, if not Myles Poholke would also be a sound choice or even Brennan Cox.

Considering how difficult it is to trade in a ready to go Mid it's really our only method of getting quality in any position.

There is a difference between gun mid and ready to go. We could have traded pick 90 for Barlow and got him for instance.

That said, we seem to be the only club that has difficulty with it which is irritating.

Not always true, players at the end of their career like Barlow or pods are there but they aren't going to be match winners they are being let go by their clubs for a reason. If we had let Thommo go he might go to another club but let's be honest he may get a couple of blinders but that's it. Barlow at 29 seems a year to young to let go but is he cooked. Hawthorn I think let Mitchell go a year to early, he did win their B and F but maybe it's perfect timing and he falls away like Thommo did this year, it took big balls to do it, but got to say the hawks have got big balls.

DFA's are different to the draft as far as i know.

But yeah, it's rare to get a match winner from that list. Barlow is a weird one as he seems to be more a victim of a change of direction from Fremantle (Full on rebuild) more so than being cooked though. His numbers look quite good all up.

Maybe in the first month with Thommo but who knows. Mitchell was a ballsy move, yet it's probably the right call for Hawthorn, as they can retool their midfield this season for another assault in '18-'19. There is a fair chance he will too seeing he'd be getting on at 35.

With the draft, generally it's quite rare to get an 18 year old to impact year one. Almost have to be a man-child of sorts, or just so silk that it's impossible to leave out.

In theory that's OK but if we don't trade for a midfielder and actually lose one then what other means do you have to acquire one.
My guess is we'll be drafting mid-fielders early.

DFA could be the other means.

Mind you, i do think losing Lyons had more to do with him expected to get overtaken more so than anything else.

Even 2nd rounders Josh Dunkley, Darcy Tucker, Ben Keays, Rhys Mathieson and Ryan Clarke made an impact. This year will be no different.

I think certainly Sam Powell Pepper and Jarrod Berry are very capable of doing just that as both already have superb tanks and development, Venables will most likely need to work on his tank quite a bit in his 1st year.....both SPP and Berry are already far bigger bodied and more contested than what Wigg has shown up to now and both are quicker. This year Wigg really needs to make an impact if he's to have a future at the AFC IMO.

That's what we did when we targeted Lever. We downgraded 10 to 14 and upgraded 47 to 35. Still got the man we were after, yet many here went apeshit.

The club can't win sometimes.

We didn't, but he was our second choice at that pick. We tried to get Harrison Himmelberg and probably didn't think we'd get him later.

When GWS matched , we went with the next player on our ranking.

Played mostly as a small forward last year as an under ager and showed plenty, highly skilled, light bodied, pacy, in general projects as a very smart footballer. Played one game in the TAC Comp this year for a B.O.G.and a 4 goal haul before breaking his leg playing for his school, the broken leg reportedly has been slow to heal properly and to my knowledge took no part in any of the recent physical testing at the Combine. Up to now I guess he'd be classed as a small forward [A very good one] who some feel projects as an inside/outside midfielder, only 181cm and a bit light in build to be a full time mid IMO? Bar for the broken leg on last year's form he definitely projected to be a top 10 or even higher pick.

He's a high half forward / outside mid and I guess would compete with Milera and Knight for a spot

He's very clever and dangerous forward of centre , very light and by memory above average speed but not lightning by any stretch ( anyone got his 20m sprint time ?)

He's been injured all year after broken leg tib/fib syndesmosis injury which required surgery x2 .... same injury as witherden

Apparently back running now and I don't think the injury will be a problem

Is he back running Bicks ? I know he needed a second surgery after the first with some minor complications but thought he was almost ready to go again in next few months ?

Wouldn't be a selection the club usually makes with such a high draft pick and not sure I see it happening

The missing draft year bit is a further doubt but hey it was good enough for Lever
