Argh it just annoys me. We believe anything on here.

I've got no issue believing people/news outlets with credibility.
I cant hold it in. Giggling like a girl here :D

Ahh the internet.

I'm not discussing Doedee here exclusively .......but in his case, he was a late starter to Pre-season, having made a late call to take up footy ......given his limited footy over recent years, and questionable fitness, the defender role in a Back Pocket was the easiest position to slot into

You can be an elite one on one contested player, without the final tag of defender .....i believe that contested one on one skill actually works well in the midfield as well

Goodwin was recruited as a wingman ......started off at HB in the Crows, and then progressed into the midfield .....i can see a similar path, if the midfield opportunity opens up
Was just chasing up some info on Dangerfield. He was always drafted as a mid potential but started as a defender , but he must have played forward at some stage as he kicked 6 goals. ( not saying he didn't run forward but his stats say not). As many do. Only the real specials get to start in the midfield.

(as a side note reading the Geelong Falcons 2007 annual report the amount of kids who don't make it. And these are touted as stars)

How? We aren't that good. Quite even, but few absolute A Graders where it counts.

Fletcher Roberts and Joel Hamling are pemiership key defenders.

We have depth.

Depth is great, it means your 28th best player slips into your 22 with nary a missed beat

Depth is what stops you bottoming out

Depth means you're always competitive

Depth is the difference between finishing 6th or 12th

We love depth

It also means jackshit if you're not willing to use it. Which we weren't, we did everything in our power to avoid using it as much as possible.

Didnt the dogs win a grand final at afl and vfl level? That is despite one of the largest injury lists all year. Even our depth is overrated

Depth isn't a bad thing, but it shouldn't come at the expense of being exceptional.

you can only field 22 every week, batting to 35 doesn't always help.

Because our midfield sucks and we need to bolster it to try and win a flag.

The club may think differently and agree that's too high.

As for the Danger trade, there's also a big difference, Danger didn't have a 3 year deal. Had he we wouldn't have traded him unless we got Geelongs first and Selwood.

Yes we do need to bolster our midfield, not problem with that.

If we held out we would have recieved 2 first round picks. Wells all but admited as much in later interviews. We were too much in a hurry to get other deals done. So from that point of view the situation re Dangers status becomes void particularly when Geelong pretty much guaranteed they would get him.

We were weak as piss in that trade, and we can't bend over again re Gibbs especially if we aren't the instigators and he wants to come home.

Refer my signature .......it's so difficult to find posters to have a proper discussion with, without the .......

BTW if you have watched the U18 championships, you'll know there are 6 rounds, not 3 rounds .....going back 3 years
Your inability to tolerate a plain statement is your own problem. Calling people idiots in your sig is a mechanism to make yourself feel better after you fly off the handle in an irrational way. I would encourage you to keep on trying though. Even you might find your position one day.

I'm starting to think we are up to something off the radar.

Looking at our list, and wondering what we will do with our midfield - I wouldn't be surprised if we are targeting Rockliff and a ruckman.

I personally would take Lobb / Grundy and Rockliff over almost all of the other combinations of trade scenarios.

If we are backing Brad Crouch to get back to his best, he is the equivalent of any midfielder we are trying to bring in. I know Hampton doesn't get much cred on here - but I can still see him coming through after his second full pre-season and showing us what he is capable of. Cameron needs to start rotating through the middle too. That isn't a bad set of players in the 22 that could move through there. Sloane / Rockliff / Brad Crouch / Matt Crouch / Hampton / Cameron. Sure it doesn't have the pedigree of the Swans mids - but it could turn out to be right up there ... especially if you change the ruckman.

I know Gibbs would add a lot, but it just feels like the same old bulldust that we get at trade period that he is looking at coming home. I reckon he is doing the right thing by Carlton if he is hanging himself out for sale ... trying to get a high enough price out of the Crows that the Blues will say "do it". I'd rather Wells for nothing - than Gibbs for plenty.

If we are spending up big to try and take the next step, then spending on Rockliff makes sense ... but so does spending it on Grundy or Lobb.

Only a week to go until we sit around hitting refresh - hoping for some news, then another week before anything actually happens !!

I agree we should have gone harder last year, but we hold no bargaining power this year

Chris Mayne to Collingwood for 4 years at $500K?! Am I missing something?

Along with 3 years at $600K for an ageing injury prone Wells, there's some weird things going on at Pieland.

Go home Collingwood. You're drunk.

We need to entice Mackay to them ;)
