Tom Boyd, along with three or four others, just won the Bullies a grand final. Franklin hasn't done that.

I'd be happy with that investment.

Tom Boyd played very well yesterday however now that his team mates are premiership players their market value has increased and the size of Boyd's contract will be an issue in the WB retaining players over the next 2-3 years

On Buddy that is 3 losing GF's in a row 2012, 2014 and 2016

True point about Boyd, but a lot of their players are aging and will be retiring/taking price cuts soon (Moyd, Morris, Picken, Murphy). Their replacements are arguably already in their squad, but aren't yet premiership players. They're still going to have to prove their worth.

Also, Buddy won one in 2013

Lol - finally been banned from the HH trade thread. Been the most comical experience.

No capacity to rationally discuss the trade circumstances. Clearly they are so used to their own board circle jerk, vigorously protected by Ford Cortina, that being asked questions which take them outside the 'gospel' turns them into quivering children.
It's clear that many of them aren't able to tell the difference between a repetitive troll and a person with an alternative opinion plus the willingness to debate it, argue long enough and you'll certainly be branded. Perhaps it really is the result of being reared on their board.

I wasn't aware of the thread in question until your post so I decided to take a quick look at the last few pages and here are some of my observations;

1. You asked why Hartlett was being singled out as trade bait and no one else of note. An answer you got was that it wasn't just him but "numerous" others as well. Obviously this was an attempt to eliminate the idea that there are any negative circumstances unique to Hartlett that would motivate Port to want to get rid of him, which in turn would also diminish his worth on the market. However even if we were to assume that it is true that they have said the same to other players, it still ignores the fact that Hartlett isn't just some ordinary Joe. He's a player on a sizeable and lengthy contract which makes him very difficult to move and therefor an atypical choice for trade bait, and he's a prominent member of the leadership group as well, the Vice Captain no less! No matter how they try to spin it, this is a very unusual situation in the AFL.

2. Again, if we're to assume that the club has indeed placed many of their players up for trade, then I can't see that as being conducive to a harmonious locker room. Not when there is a force sweeping through them threatening to tear them apart.:p

3. I've noticed that there seems to be an underlying view within their supporter group that they are free to ship their players off to the highest bidder because a contract allows them to refuse offers, but what about the player's themselves? Don't they get a say in it, aren't they also allowed to refuse? Sounds to me like some of them are so caught up in the fairy tale that all their players love Port so much that they'd happily uproot their lives to move interstate to the club of Port's choosing just to help them out. Funnily enough after effectively being told that the club would prefer to see them walk out the door.

No matter how you look at it Vice Captains on big deals aren't commonly offered as trade bait. Something stinks in Port Adelaide, and we'd be stupid not to look deeper to find out what it is before doing any deal with them.

I do wonder what they'll do with Stringer. Feel he will never be as good as he was last year, or how good he thinks he is.

If the rumors about Essendon being interested are true, I'd be all up in that.
Feel like their forward line would work together better if Crameri replaced Stringer full-time

Craigy and trigg will out-vote SOS 2-1.

But seriously though, there is an excellent chance they will rate them highly given their connection with the crows and the fact that our fitness base is clearly superior to the blues
Well to give Mackay credit where it's due, it sounds like he is one of the most professional and well prepared guys we have. Teams like Brisbane, GCS and Carlton would certainly benefit from guys like hi setting a standard off the field.

Was great to see big Kurt mia in a big final.

How much is he on these days? Imagine if they swapped him for mummy & another player they effectively lost...
Friend had him finishing second to Papley in the #ShueyMedal I had Kurt winning it.

And the fact Buddy was hampered by an ankle injury. And the fact the Swans still decided to hit him up even when he had 3-5 Bulldogs sitting on him. Poor coaching by Longmire , I would have sent Buddy as decoy. Let 3 Dogs go with him to the boundary and then kick to the middle. Poor poor coaching.
What they needed was a million dollar homesick mop top to stand up. Predictably, he didn't.

Nah, media rights increase fixes that.

Not sure about that
They have 5 Top agers to drop out in the next two years as well. Plus there's the usual front/back loading that goes on. If Boyd continues on his trajectory (that was a big game for a 21 yr old big guy) I don't reckon the others will mind his salary one bit.

If the selectors & their fitness tests couldn't tell like the average punter that their ankles were buggared, then we have a major problem in intelligence...

Players always want to play. Selectors responsibility to say no!
And this gets back to the ''Jobs for the Boys '' mentality that has grown. Love Matty Clarke and love what he has brought the AFC but when you over-rely on a player while ignoring your own eyes then you have slipped off the edge from coach to mate. And that is a bad place to be.

I think if you are relying on the player to tell the truth re an injury you are going to be told "I'm good" 95% of the time. The medical staff need to make the call.
With a combination of fear of losing your spot with greater depth and good players in most positions in the SANFL and great match payments, the players will always talk themselves into thinking they are going to be right even if they are 70:30 not.
Heard/saw an interesting interview with Brett Favre who talks about this being his biggest fear and driver of what he told the medicos and what he put himself through.

Boyd's contract is unique and now exists within a premiership list that contains a host of players under 25 who's market value has increased with the premiership success

Yes the salary cap will increase, yes some experience players will leave however with that said the nature and size of Boyd's contract will IMO now be a bigger list management challenge as they move forward in atracting and retaining players
