Yeah look we need to win 18 games in the H & A season. That means we can drop 4 games. And we'll lose games in 2016.

It doesn't really matter who we lose those games to. I agree there's a strong emotional desire to see our 'nemesis' teams like North and Sydney get a stern thrashing but if we lose to Sydney and Norf again but win 18 games and have pole position heading into the finals then that's fine by me.

The Power's win/loss record against geebung, norda melbun and the swannies is absolutely f****** disgraceful, it will take years ( if ever ) to get on the right side of the ledger against those clubs. :(

Geebung had a significant physical size advantage for years ( particularly their on ballers and forward division ) and were also handed a huge phsycological advantage on a plate by Choco, and we have always struggled with the swannies shut down tactics, but north melbourne, how in the name of F*** could Port's win/loss record be so bad against them?
And yes I know we got screwed by the umps a couple of times, but that still doesn't account for such a huge discrepency.

At least we beat them when it counts (in finals)

yeah that geelong loss last season didn't sit well with me at all, blew a really good chance to start stringing some wins against them.

was it melbourne 2-3 years ago who we were down 1 or level with head to head? we've really blown that one out the water, rightly so. wouldn't mind smashing that carlton record back out either, those losses from 08-11 used to burn like hell. hearing that dumb song being sung by their fans during the 4th

Our record against North does have to be put into the context of us losing the first 9 match ups and only beating them for the first time in 2003. Since then it is only marginally in their favour and certainly a lot of that has to do with having to play them more away than at home.

Sydney are the most frustrating one for me. Across multiple generations of players, home or away, we just can't beat them.

If we assume 2 of the sides we play twice 1 year and the other one once, and it evenly rotates around every year ie we play each side 5 times over 3 seasons, and we can obtain a 2-1 W-L ratio against all 3, then we are looking at 2039 before we get a positive against both Sydney and North and would have achieved that by 2036 v Geelong.

What we need is a couple of 5-0 streaks against all 3 sides with a couple of years 50/50 in between and then normal ratio after the second streak to achieve it in a 10-12 year period.

The 0-9 run in our first 6 years against North certainly put us behind the eight ball. After that we have been 9-12.
Against Sydney we were only one in the red before 29/7/2006 but we then had a run of 0-8 and overall 1-12 since then.
We were actually in the black against Geelong at 7-1-4 before we started on a losing run of 4 on 22/4/2005, won a game at Kardinia Park and then started another losing run of 10. In that run of 1-14 we played 1 game at the MCG, 4 at AAMI and 10 at Kardinia Park(or whatever it was called at the time).

You didnt look hard enough. We have always been in the red against the Swans, since the first game we played them at the SCG which we lost. As I put in my post on page 1, we were 5-6 at the end of 2004 and 2-13 since. In the 1997-2004 period the best we got to was minus 1 three times.

1997 L, 1998 LL, 1999 WW, 2000 L, 2001 L, 2002 W, 2003 WL, 2004 W........ Then we lost in 2005 at the SCG, but in 2006 beat them at the SCG as they unfurled their flag in Rd 2, which is our last win at the SCG. We were minus 1 ie then 6-7. have gone 1-12 since that last win at the SCG.

I didn't say we were ever ahead of them, I just pointed out our record wasn't too bad in july 2006 but has really gone down the toilet since.

Cant be stuff doing an updated 2018 thread but after Rd 5 2018.

Since the 2004 Flag we have a win loss record of less than 40% against the following sides. So since October 2015 when I last posted this we have gone backwards against Geelong but improved against the others. But now Adelaide join the less than 40% mob

Gee 2-18 10.0%

Fre.... 9-13 40.9%
NM... 10-11 47.6%
Adel.. 10-17 37.0%

1997 to 2004 Flag against above sides
