Relatively good assessment overall, but if any of betts winning the coleman, goldstein winning the brownlow or fremantle winning the premiership (especially against hawthorn) actually happen, i'll eat my hat. Not a chance for any of them.

AFAIK the fixture is determined on end of season standings, not finals standings.

Happy to be corrected though.
That's incorrect. Tigers drop into the middle 6 and we go up into the top 6 after winning the elimination final. Top 6 are Hawks, Wce, Roos, Crows, Swans, Freo.

Just like 1992 after our 1991 loss to Hawthorn...

LOL - with a top 6 draw and more homework on their game plan as a result of a good season, WCE will be lucky to sneak into the 8.

They beat most of the top 8 teams last year with a weak defence with all their players likely to be available next year they should only get better
Nah, WC are a good team. Ladder looks good to me.

I don't necessarily disagree, but many thought that when Port picked up one of the better rucks in the comp they were almost certain to make a GF, or at least another PF.

I rate WC, but I'm not sure Kennedy will have as good a year next year, and no one really knows how the GF performance will affect them. Should be top 4 again, but wouldn't be a massive surprise to see them drop down to 5-8 (or out of finals if they pick up injuries to key mids/forwards).

Home advantage will be enough to ensure we're in the mix. Pending injuries to Naitanui and half of our first 22, we'll give it a good shake. Other sides may improve but who is to say we won't, especially given our run with injury last year?

Convincing

While I don't agree that West Coast will be lucky to sneak into the 8, I can see what the potential issues are. West Coast's 'web' was developed from the lack of key defenders and requires players with high levels of endurance to pull it off since they are covering a lot of ground to close in on the area that the ball is moving to. Hawthorn picked this off easily in the GF because the ball can move faster than players can with quick, precise ball movement.

Now, the consensus is that once you get your KPD back you will go up another level, but that might be false reasoning when you consider that key position defenders are generally less mobile and tend to focus on their direct opponent than working into a team defense system. Especially when that team defense would be scrutinized through the off-season because it was so effective, the same way that Port Adelaide was scrutinized during the 2014 off-season. Add to that a draw that will have you playing more top eight teams away from home and it won't be that easy.
