Club will try and get a priority pick, if it is early second round then so bet it, beggars can't be choosers.
Expect to see SOS try and engineer another complex deal.
Everitt to GC?
Levi would need to improve a fair bit to be retained. If you can snare a second rounder for him, you add that to our original second rounder and the prioirty pick...

1
19
20
25 (Casboult)
28 (Everitt)

So then SOS bundles some of these for a higher single pick.

I believe its imperative that something like this is done. Would love us to finish with #1 & say #7 leaving us the chance to pick:
#1 Petrevski-Seton (Mid/Fwd 181cm/72kgs)
#7 Powell-Pepper (Utl 187cm/88kgs)

To nab both these guys would be a terrific outcome and in addition to those we drafted this year I could really see us rise.

I think it's clear we'll try and trade for more 1st rounders.

Can see us on-trading the GCS pick in your scenario. Packaged up with say a 2nd for a mid first and a Tomlinson type.

The only certainty is that we will be aggressive again.

Yeah, nice one! Tatts used to be something of a statement but now it is just a sheep act! Nice tat... Baaaaaaaa baaaaa

They still love Tatts? After all that they earn for their services on and off the field, they still love to get in the draw? Those money-hungry pigs.

Not sure we have any more currency left on our list that i would be prepared to lose.

Not including trading our young talent, the only way we could get another high pick would be to trade Gibbs. He is young enough (just) and largely injury free so I think he could land a top ten pick.

I am not sure Murphy would command a top ten pick. Maybe a pick in the teens. He is older than Gibbs and has been ravaged with injury. His small body gets hammered.

We missed the boat with Kreuzer not being traded. Could see what the club was trying to do there. But reading btw the lines it appeared his injuries were too much of a deterrent for other clubs.

The only other options I see that don't inc young talent would be ...

- trading Everitt + a pick, say for example Everitt + our pick 20 to get a pick around 12 again.
- trading Casboult either alone (if he has a break out year) or as with Dre with a pick. But would you trade Cas if he turns into a gun in 2016? I wouldn't. So maybe it is Cas (if he doesn't have a break out year, but just another OK year) + our pick 20 for a pick around 12-16. Maybe?

I don't want to trade Gibbs but really that is the only way to get another top ten pick.

Little point using FA just yet given we are so far off being a top side.

It will be 3 years with finishes in bottom 3, so we need to really hit the jackpot with our early second round picks. Select good mids with those picks btw 19-21. And ditto with our first round picks. After 3 years we have added 6 good mids/flankers to go with the young talls we have at the club (Weitering, Curnow, Silvagni, MCkay, Plowman, Jaksch).

That ought to be the strategy IMO.

If we can get a decent return for Everitt somehow, maybe Everitt + our 3rd rounder, for a pick around 20 that would be a good get.

Gibbs and Murphy have both committed to the club and stuck tough this year after both were out up as potential trade bait, if they were wantjng out then this last off season gave them every reason to seek a trade and both would have found homes where they could chase success or $ but both were firm in wanting to stay with the club.. Players with that much passion for the jumper are rare and these are the type of players you can build a culture around.. if we traded Gibbs this year when he wants to stay, what sort of message does that send to Cripps who will no doubt be chased hard by the WA teams in the next coming years...

If we feel we need another top 10 pick then we will need to get creative.. But i dare say we will have a top 5 pick and another pick at pick 25 will be nothing to sneeze at.

I think we're getting ahead of ourselves in assuming all the talls we picked will work out... I think next couple of drafts will be best available type picks as we lack quality all over the park.

I for one, will... I'm already on record regarding my feelings about trading Levi (and Everitt) but first time poster put it a thousand times better than I have.
Well said mate, I agree completely!
Although, we're in the minority...

Levi is going no-where... unless he kicks 30 or more goals this season. Our people only seem to get rid of forwards who kick goals.

Seriously though, I'm glad he's still with us. It would p!ss me off mightily to see Levi picked up for a song by Brisbane or someone like that - and then find his potential (which is enormous).

Yes, intelligent call, in two years time if Cas is slotting 40-50 regularly he will be invaluable to our young forwards. They won't be getting belted around(as much) with other teams always having to keep an eye on where Levi might decide to park his rig. Cas chopping out and taking heat for Macca and SOSOS would be ideal. Bolts needs to put him in a cage and poke him with a nearly sharp stick. I really wanna see the angry hulk Casboult...

Cas hurts people without even trying. I've seen him crash into players or land on them in the contest - the other bloke doesn't tend to get up in a real hurry. :)

I reckon the list management team has structured out a multi-year rebuild. They have to assume somewhat that our talls will work out, because they need to use the next few drafts to fill other holes. Midfield quality is going to be a big one as Simpson, Murphy, Gibbs, Thomas age and retire (all could feasibly be gone in 3 years, although unlikely).

2016

I would expect a top-tier midfield prospect to be a key aim in 2016, whether that comes via the draft or through a trade. From their perspective they might imagine three approximate scenarios:

Scenario 1: We do poorly in 2016 > Use high draft pick on top tier mid

Scenario 2: We do well but don't make finals in 2016 > Evaluate draft crop, but consider making a hard play at an out of contract gun mid (Wines etc)

Scenario 3: We do exceptionally well, make finals in 2016 > Evaluate the possibility of trades for older quality non-essential players. If we did well, presumably these players stocks must have risen, trade now to another team for either higher draft picks or to access a top-tier mid trade.

There is another remote possibility involving words like "Top 4" and "Grand Final" and "Premiership 17" but let's assume that the list management team thinks them extremely unlikely.

2017

This is the year for filling holes and planning around imminent retirements, Simpson, Walker, Jamison, Armfield, Wood, Thomas, Murphy, Rowe are all possibly not going into season 2018 (some will probably have retired already). I think flankers and smalls will be the focus of this year's efforts. But given how much can happen it is hard to say.

Remember when Jarrad Waite was about 27 and journalists were still writing newspaper articles about when he'd finally have a breakout year and whether if he wasn't the son of a gun he'd have been traded long ago?

Well, just saying, Levi turns 26 in a couple of months. I like the big fella and hope he remains a 1-club-player (given he supported us as a kid) but wouldn't begrudge either party if a deal came along that was too good to refuse.

To be honest i think you are a fair way off the mark, have a look at SOS draft history at GWS he wasnt afraid to stockpile key position forwards as he knows they are worth there wait in gold on the trade table. If we have a top 5 pick i would expect us to go for a KPF unless there is an exceptional mid who stands out or no obvious key forward.

Option 2, not a chance we trade a top 7 pick for a player and no chance somene like Wines would want to come to CFC.. we would have to severly overpay. We may consider a free agent but no way we give up a top pick.

Option 3 is just so far beyond realistic its not worth considering

Levis value to us is pure k y to protect McKay and Jack from having to play too early and then when they do it means they wnt get the best defender. Levi will allow them to develop naturally.
