What planet are you on ??

Boyd is on a huge contract $$ wise and has not shown anything remotely resembling that of a gun key forward.

I'll put my faith in Harry McKay right now thanks.
Boyd and McKay are very different animals IMO.
Boyd still has serious potential - but his situation at the Dogs is just embarrassing.
Dogs need him out - his salary will affect their future.
Hope he would accept a pay cut to get out - otherwise too expensive.

not true at all. a lot was up front and they have been able to sign most if not all of their young talent. wont affect them going forward and they were able to bring in a talented young key forward who will perform a key role moving forward. i think this deal was the start of the dogs being a truly good club. they took the risk and made the play. they were proactive and showed they were serious. they now have a modern day coach in the bolton type. a lot has fallen in to place since because they are a very well run club on and off the field.

If he'd accept a pay cut to get out, why wouldn't he just accept a pay cut to stay?

It already is.
Wouldn't surprise me should Boyd be playing elsewhere next year........didn't say it's likely to happen.....just wouldn't surprise.

Last year he was on a second year player salary ($100K or whatever it is), from what I have heard Bulldogs supporters say, his serious dollars commence next year (which for some reason they seem to think is a good thing). I don't understand how anyone can say that his recruitment has been anything other than a disaster, he is still young and has potential but from what I can see he lacks intensity.

I don't care what anyone says, having a player like him being the highest paid player at the club on those sort of dollars has to have serious ramifications for list management. they have managed to re-sign their key players for now but there will be casualties.

Last year Boyd was on $100k. On the other hand, the Bulldogs were paying Griffen rather a lot of money to be at GWS, resulting in his contract being frontloaded to all heck.

Boyd's manager bent the Dogs over, and the Dogs took it because they were scared Carlton would swoop on him once he was out of contract.

So what happens when Bont, Stringer, Mcrae, Boyd, Johanissen, Stevens, Libba, Dalhaus, Hunter, Wallis, etc. etc. start to get good offers to go.
Each will believe they are worth more due to Boyd's reputed $1m pa.
None will consider themselves half as good as Boyd.
Why is Redpath on one eight of Boyds salary?
Disaster as soon as each players contract ends (repeat).
Do not mind if it gives WBD list issues - but can we benefit?

Yeah I forgot about Griffen's contract that they are supplementing, you can add that to the overall cost of Boyd. I'm guessing Boyd's manager was Pickering? Unfortunately he manages Weitering (not good for us).

when we are doing as well at the dogs then we can be critical. peter gordon said the other day that the majority of his money will be paid in first year or so and will not affect signings of other players who they have mostly signed up for next 3 years plus. id say he has a better idea than any of us.

Possible - but very hard to do. He needs a change of environment.

Tom Boyd is still 20. Im pretty confident in a few years he's gonna be a gun.
Maybe, he's always had question marks on aggression and attack on the ball, 2 pretty significant flaws for a forward target.
Good luck to him but I wouldn't be overly keen on Carlton chasing him a present.

Peter Gordon isn't exactly going to come out and say they stuffed up. I understand why they did what they did, they had a disastrous off-season and his signing gave hope to the Bulldogs faithful who have been crying out for quality KPP's for years. Even if the ridiculous dollars are this year and next, it does still affect list management, those dollars could be going to front load other contracts to help with re-signings. Even after the ridiculous dollars finish, he will still be just about their highest paid player on their list, and I have serious doubts he will ever be worth that.

They aren't the only club, we stuffed up with daisy's contract and also signing Jones for 3 years, these decisions affect what you can do.

If Boyd's struggling with that midfield imagine what he'd be like with ours (albeit improving midfield).

But truth be told... I can't wait to see how good he is when he's 23/24. Young talls take time.

dont look at the worth of an individual. look at the worth of the group.

as for us, the contracts of jones thomas dick tutt plus our poor drafting and recruiting over the past decade certainly dont put us in a position to criticise.

No it's not. The salary cap is about to increase dramatically with the new TV rights deal. Deals like Boyd and Franklin won't even be that big in a few years. It's embarrassing for Boyd because he's strutting around in the reserves for $1mill, but the Dogs are fine, I doubt he's going anywhere.

One individual swallowing up 7% of the salary cap........playing in the 2's........ and all is fine? Don't believe that.
