An admission of incompetence to the faithful.

I personally think we are in for another year of high turnover (though not as severe as last year).

Do we really need an admission to know that there has been gross incompetence at our football club? The 15 or so years prior to Silvagni's appointment have been straight out of "how to **** up a football club for dummies". Silvagni has pretty much already acknowledged it.

I thought that Dom Tyson/Salem trade for pick #2 was pretty good for The Dees, and they got Viney cheaply, and did that ridicuois mini-draft trade with GWS that saw them snare Jesse Hogan.

Melbourne will be a very good team in 2 years, especially if Petracca is as decent as everyone thinks he will be, they are coming from a long way back (a decade of tragedy and club board mismanagement (mainly by Cameron Schwab AKA The Goose) took a lot out of that club's spirit and club morale, but look at them from a long term pov, and its a damn good outlook (obviously contigent on whether Hogan stays after 2017)

Bernie Vince has also been a terrific mature age pick up for them, I'd have the Dees list any day of the week over just about any other bottom 6 team right now. We don't want to go the St Kilda path of drafting and trading of the past 3-4 years. I have no idea what The Saints are doing aside from the Josh Bruce trade. Silly, silly football club.

I think Parap was responding to my post and by 'not doing a Melbourne' we mean getting rid of the old blokes and just pumping games into the youngsters even if they don't deserve it...who then get thrashed every week and don't really develop and learn anything.

Dees got some serious talent coming through like Hogan, Petracca, Brayshaw, Salem, Tyson and the new guys Oliver and Weideman...that is formidable. However i feel under Roos their gameplan and style is still a bit outdated. Unfortunately they have what we're missing, would love to have an absolute top line young KPF and a few true midfielders. Their more senior players are no where near as good as ours though...all they have of note imo is Jones and Vince...we have guys like Murph, Gibbs, Simmo, Thomas, Krooz who at their best are guns.

Agree on Saints...really dont thank they're going anywhere...not impressed by their game plan or youth. Only ones i rate are Bruce and Billings.

Thanks for pointing that out and my apologises to Parap, I only skimmed through his post without reading it properly (watching England v SA in the cricket atm)

Really hope McCartin comes good for them, but based on last year's form, he is miles off the pace.

Very foolish of them to fall for Essendon's bluff and trade pick #5 for Carlisle, Dodoro played them like a Violin ...

No harm done and I agree with your post regarding Saints and Demons 100%. I don't see much from the Saints that will propel them into contenders (did like the look of Gresham on the weekend though), but I can see a very good core forming at Melbourne.

A lot of people didn't think that we would be as busy as we were last year whilst also saying no club can remove 15 players from their list in one hit.

After being gobsmacked at how successful the club was at changing player numbers as well as being ecstatic at the actual results, now they question whether it will happen again.

There will be another large turnover of players at the end of the season, nothing is surer.

St Jimmy showed there is more than one way to skin a cat.

You got there in the end :)

I pronounce it Cola-Dash-Knee (which I'm sure is wrong) but he is still under contract and The Suns don't want to let him go (understandably) but he is keen to play for us (mind you I heard Tom Boyd agreed to come to Carlton before the Dogs swooped in with their huge offer, so its no certainty we'll get, and even if we do, it will be fairly costly, but I think he'd be worth it, the kid can seriously play)

I looked up that he is about 190cm...is he more a KPD or flanker? Sounds similar to Plowman.

TBH if he is more a flanker/rebounder I'm a little surprised we'd be going after him...as that is a position we have quite a lot of depth in and we'd have to give up something pretty big for him you'd suspect...if we were going to trade big id rather it be for a gun midfielder.

Yes certainly nothing is 'certain' at this time of year...but the Boyd and Carlisle misses are probably blessings in disguise...would not be happy paying Boyd $900k and being our highest paid player by a mile and Carlisle is Carlisle.

You start off saying "Key Position Defender from an interstate club is whom we're reportedly interested in, I actually don't know who it is, other than he is supposed to be keen on joining Carlton as well."
You then say "I'm pretty sure I've just worked out who this 'mystery defender' is." But won't give a name even though it's pure speculation and personal opinion.
And in a short number of posts, this somehow turns into Kolo being "keen to play for us".
It's fine that you supposedly have an inside word from someone and that you're willing to share that info when you get it, but the rest is pure speculation which, somehow, ends up presented as fact. I'm not sure if it's deliberate (I don't think it is), but you just need to choose your words more wisely.

Josh Kennedy (WCE) is listed as a free agent this year. He does not fit our 'needs' profile of being young, but he would fill a massive hole at FF for the next three years. Could CFC bring him back to use our salary cap space?

Lol no. Josh Kennedy has unfortunately been in a crap team all his career...with us then was with a crap WCE for the first few years there.

Eagles have seemingly finally come good, playing in GF last year...he's in the last few years of his career I'm sure he'd want to stay and have the chance at success for once.

Nah, he probably won't be around by the time our next premiership window opens, and i can't see him seeing him leave WCE anyway.

Behind Nic Nat and Fyfe, big Josh is considered the king of WA. Has a few businesses going on, regular radio and TV gigs.

Have they actually found Josh yet after he went missing on Grand Final Day ? What a disgraceful performance, so Trent like. If you read his stat line and averages, he is the biggest flat track bully in the AFL, another reason I don't want him back.

Don't want or need a Key Foward who can't get the job done against the Hawthorns or the Sydneys of this league.

yeah he loves kicking bags against us gold coast, the doggies and unforuntately for us last year when he bagged 10.

will be interesting to see if that GF performance has damaed him mentally.

Hahaha what?

Who was the last tall forward to own a GF? I am think Ablett in 89'

Gunstall goes all right for Hawthorn in Grannies.

Also the likes of Roughie and Franklin did help their teams win GFs, not so much wth kicking bags but their work further up the ground, Kennedy is a one dimensional player that simply does not offer the same value and versatility as the other key power forwards of the game (and that includes Texaco and Jack Riewoldt)

Gunston isn't the no. 1

Franklin and Roughead's best influence was drawing defenders.

Hardly a sterling defence, key forwards have a significantly reduced impact in GF's. Largely I would think because the best defences make it to grand finals

High quality mid under 25 should be the priority.
We need 2 of them min.
And a decent tall back, doesn't have to be an elite star, but a solid, dependable one, can even be mid age. I just doubt Jaksch is the real deal, and Plowman is injury prone and young, so we need more there. Could even go FA here.
I am assuming we just have to sit tight on McKay, SOSOS, and Curnow and hope in time they turn into good key forwards. We have spent picks 10 and 12 on key forwards, that's a fair outlay in terms of draft picks.

As much as we're excited about what Graham, Boek and Cuningham will become, on paper we are missing probably 1-2 absolute top line young gun mids...like a Brayshaw/Treloar type.

We still have a few more drafts to go, but a few gun mids will definitely be at the top of our shopping list come draft day

Prestia + no.1 pick 2016 is how I see it.
To get Prestia we need to do some creative trading. Saw Everitt for Pick 35.
Pick 35 + Pick 20 for a top 12 Pick which goes to Suns.
Something like that.
Or if he doesn't kick 40 goals this year Casboult gets thrown into the mix.
Ideally you keep picks 1 and 20. (or 19, whatever it is).
Or, dare I throw it out there, Gibbs gets traded. That's almost a direct swap.

I see Gubby has left the Giants to return to Melbourne to follow his wife who wants to be closer to their children and grandchildren. I wonder if we will be our head recruiter? Personally I would prefer him to that idiot who copped a twelve month suspension for gambling on AFL games, including the Giants game.
