What I'm saying is he is exceptionally skilled and would have progressed well with us, which is why still got drafted despite being 5'6".

I agree that he is exceptionally skilled but I don't believe that he would have progressed as well with Carlton as he has with the Dogs. That's probably the best learning and developing environment in the AFL right now.

Fair enough; I think in his case it would have made little difference.

We have a huge gap in talent between the ages of 22 and 26. Which means we really have to hit this draft hard again.
I think two or three picks inside the top 12, as well as acquiring a free agent around 26 years of age and we'll be in a prime list spot and ready to shoot up the ladder in 2015.

How on earth are we going to get 3 picks inside the top 12?

We just don't have the currency to do it, as it stands.

Im thinking.

1. Our own first round pick + GC's (trade either two low twenty picks or one and Everitt) 2 picks
2. Trade out first (high) for two picks in the 8-12 range + GC's first (same as above) 3 picks

O.K. Trade the 1-3 for 2 inside the top 12. It may be possible with GWS who are holding Geelongs first rounder.
(GWS don't need more talent. They just need the right talent)

A trade of a player (no name) and our second for a first rounder. Maybe.

Then all we have to do is nail those picks.

I agree, yet it's ultimately the best way forward for the club. I think SOS would probably be of a similar attitude so it's going to be very interesting how the end of this year plays out.

In some ways, we sort of knew some of those big names (Hendo, Yarran, Warnock... probably not so much Menzel) were on shaky ground and likely on their way out. But this year, if we want to trade into the first round again, who is it we are going to move on? I have no idea, and don't particularly like thought of trading those who have that sort of currency like Murphy, Gibbs, Cripps (lol like that would happen..) or even Casboult at a stretch.

Your asking the wrong qustions...
How the hell do we get back to 2015 & do we get to keep Weitering & co?

we'll get a high pick for finishing low.

get a second rounder for someone like Everett, then use two second rounders to get a first rounder like we did with the doggies.

trade a Gibbs & a 3rd rounder for a highish first rounder. actually think you could substitute Gibbs for a Casboult, just need to focus on the needs of the club you're dealing with.

of course, there's a number of variations to the above, but it's about assessing what other teams need, working on the points system, & willing to trade some top level talent.

I'm a bit sceptical about the time travel aspect too

Sorry, I'm confused by all that, its just the way you have written it.

Are you saying we should try and snaffle GC's first round pick by offering up Andrejs Everitt and our second pick somewhere in the twenties ??

Which club is going to give us two picks inside the Top 12 for the #1 or #2 ??

Why would GC want to trade away their first round pick ??

Why would we want to trade out #1 or #2 ??

This years draft seems to be an interesting one, top three are super talented the rest are very even.... soo far. ...
Only 1 kpp of note that's not linked to the gws academy is young Battle (sweet name i know) i think it's worth not having a top 3 pick if we could get this Battle and a top 15 midfielder.
Battles game style would complement McKays imo.
But it is so early to speculate it's almost ridiculous.

Really ??

So the next Voss or Riccuito is on offer and you'd rather trade out of that option ??

Yes.
We need to fill our list not add one superstar.
If we could get jarrod berry and Josh battle instead of sam petrevski seton we would be in a better position in our rebuild.
Just my opinion, and maybe lucky I'm not in charge of our recruiting department.

I'm selecting my stats i know but who would you rather cripps and mccarthy (both picks in the teens) or boyd (pick one)
My point is in an even draft it might be more adventages to trade out of a top 4 pick.

Gibbs won't be a part of our next premiership window (any realist knows this) and therefore trading him for picks and/or a young gun that will be, makes a lot of sense, and it's not like he's a club great and trading him would ruin the fabric or culture of the club.

We need to start accumulating more early draft picks/young guns that will get us to flag #17, and anyone over 26 should be deemed 'expendable' if the price is right (well except Simmo obviously, he is the Heart and Soul of Carlton)
DVB, all due respect, but realism clearly doesn't mean what you think it means. A realist is not a person who shares your opinion. You are using it in the sense of 'a person who understands that the most likely scenario is x,' which is in fact closer to pragmatism.
Also, do you not find it disparaging to the opinions of others to classify it to say 'anyone sensible will agree with me?' I think it's probably unfairly dismissive.
Third, is it possible, DVB, that the perception you have of Gibbs from outside the club is different to the one of him from inside the club? I think ms3 and ep seemed to suggest he was a far more loyal club servant than fans give him credit for.
Worth mulling over I suggest.

If we didnt take Daisy as a FA we would of got a 1st round pick after our selection that year, which was Mcarthy.
