He plays the year out as a 25 year old and given a clear run, he may well be in the best 22 and the only reason he was/is on the rookie list is for injury.

That gives him: 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31..........At least another 6 years to go after this one. If he's good enough, I'd invest in those 6 years. Wouldn't you?

Sure. But he will have to show a lot this year and cement himself in our best 22...something he's never even gotten close to doing so far.

Is this his last possible year on the rookie list?

Last rookie year for Byrne, Sheehan and Wood.

Last rookie year for Byrne, Sheehan and Wood.

That's correct but Byrne does have a contract beyond this year.

Sheehan injuries have done him no favours but he does have the tools to make it.
Would have been a wonderful player had have he remained here with Tuohy, 5 years ago as someone has alluded to.

Tom Bell situation? Had other interest but stayed on for another rookie year with a contract beyond that ensuring he gets elevated to the senior list.

Byrne elevated, Wood delisted - thanks for the stop gap work (poor bloke knows it too but he got 3 extra years he never thought he would get), Sheehan battling. Needs to tear it up this year in the VFL for half a season, then demand selection if we get a LTI.

Both Byrne & Sheehan have now done their term on the rookie list.
Byrne has to get promoted (There's no other way) and yes, Sheehan is behind the eight ball somewhat. Wood will be gone....no question.

It will be another tricky year for the List Manager and especially so, if we have given Gorringe 2 years. I think Wright has only the one year though.

That's what I was saying about Byrne. Gets a contract that takes him beyond his rookie list eligibility so will be an automatic elevation regardless of form. I suspect we are expecting him to go well and want to protect ourselves from other clubs. Pretty sure Tom Bell got a similar contract.

The delisted Gorringe given two years? What is this...2014?

Don't all delisted free agents get a two year senior contact, like dick did.
No, it's just the nature of the game at the moment that players will generally have multiple offers, so a two-year contract is probably going to seal the deal for depth signings.

I think the culture of that will change more over time, particularly once player movement becomes a little more fluid with FA eligibility criteria and live draft trading.

On our delisted free agents i think they were all good pick ups. Even if they all fail.
Wright offers a harden mature body while, gorringe offers extreme athletic potential, and dick offers extreme pace and run out of hb.
All three were worth the punt.

So this is what I think we do at the end of the year.
This is the strategy I'd be advocating.

Assuming we win fewer games than last year (which of course might not transpire), lobby hard around July for the priority pick, but to be before the second round not the first. If we finish last, and for the time being ignoring any possible extra picks other clubs might have due to comp or future trading, then this means we go to the draft with picks 1, 19 and 20.

Trade Gibbs for pick, say 12.

Trade Casboult for, say pick 21.

Then SOS package a combo of Everitt, our 3rd rounder and 20 for 15 and a later third rounder (worse than ours).

So we go to the draft with : 1, 12, 15, 19, 21 and then some later picks.

Hard to say bye to BG but I just don't think he will be part of our next premiership side.
And I think Everitt simply needs to be traded if we can get a pick, and I worry Cas is simply not up to it.

Early days and could very well change my views on above moving forwards but this is just an early guess.

Everitt, 20 and 38 for 15 and say 45, i'd say you are high, but your choice, i would rather trade Everitt for around pick 30 and go to the draft with 1-12-19-20-21-30-37-50 (Bulldogs 3rd round from last years trade)-55.
Your scenario we are giving up 20 and Everitt to climb 5 spaces, if it was 8 spaces or 9 then i think it would be good

If Freo can't find a monster forward, does Casboult fit for them?

Gibbs doesn't want to leave. Would have to be a monster financial offer for him to change his mind. Hawthorn though?

McCarthy will get to Freo easy, GWS wont allow an asset to devalue even more, if he doesn't play much this season he will get their cheap too

So Fev has just signed for Frankston in the VFL, if he has a good year, we should get him on the rookie list. I would of loved to of seen him sign for Northern

Since when?

Bec has come out and said Oscar loves the Blues.
Pretty sure I read in Juddy's book that Oscar was a Carlton supporter and his daughter was WCE....could be wrong though
