but they done it while he and the list are young. by the the time he is 25-26 the deal is over. All the current stars are signed up. I dont see what the issue is.

On what he has produced to date his value would be around the 400-500 k mark. A massive part of a successful operation is keeping everyone on the list within a workable pay scale as Hawthorn have done to great success. The Boyd decision seems a massive risk, which really didn't need to be taken.

i think it did. this is club that has won one premiership in 100 years. its a major cultural shift and showed they are serious. at the same time they moved on a coach that was doing "okay". shows to me they want to compete and are serious about being a powerhouse. they are being proactive and developing a culture of expecting to win. i honestly dont believe it will cost them one player they would want. their list is talented and young. there drafting has been first class. that allows then to be flexible with their payments.

anyway just the way i see it

What planet are you on ??

Boyd is on a huge contract $$ wise and has not shown anything remotely resembling that of a gun key forward.

I'll put my faith in Harry McKay right now thanks.

What sort of list manager does such a deal. Its baffling how they assembled such a great list, then they boyded their list. Baffling

With Redpath keeping Boyd out of Bulldogs best 22, wonder if Boyd is now gettable?
He would have to take a big salary cut to come to CFC, but if he could deliver on his draft potential would fill a need for us.
Not sure what the trade would cost though?
I'd take redpath over Boyd any day

Boyd will be a ripper in a couple of years time, no doubt it's taken him a while but the lads a skilled KPF, would a great assest to any team.

Boyd is the biggest dud to dud up dud town. I'd rather have Watts.

Why are we discussing him anyway? Clearly he's the new Goddard. Move on.

So what you're saying is that THIS is the year we get Matthew Pavlich and Ryan O'Keefe.

Tom Boyd has the natural talent to be a dominant player. He is into his what - second year? Dud already? Please...

The dogs paid a lot for him, but also were well under their salary cap to the point of banking extra apparently (heard on fox footy podcast just a few days ago). Shelling out for him now to lock him away for the long term was a very smart move. You can argue they are paying him too much, but it's unlikely to have hurt their chances of re-signing their other young stars in the coming years.

Anyone who thinks the dogs ****ed up is welcome to that opinion, but with time on their side, it's more likely than not that he earns every penny.

Third isnt it Shan?

Third isnt it Shan?
Correct.
Still early days could still become a star but at the moment they are paying him over 1 million to play VFL.
Sorry, yep third.

Yes, he is earning big bucks to play VFL, and people who argue this could be bad for culture at the club make a fair point, but from a list management perspective, they are paying him $1m to secure his services over the next 5 years while he develops into a gun. To get him out of GWS they had to pay, and accepted that a big price would be needed for someone as highly rated as he is.

Judging the trade and his cost by what is happening right now is short sighted. It was long term deal for a reason.

Not sure why this is so hard to understand.

Blues out of contract in 2016
Dennis Armfield, free agent, aged 29
Blaine Boekhorst, 22
Dylan Buckley, 23
Levi Casboult, 26
Matthew Dick, 21
Andrejs Everitt, 27
Jayden Foster, turns 21 on Wednesday
Andrew Gallucci, rookie, 22
Billy Gowers, rookie, 19
Nick Graham, 21
Sam Rowe, 28
Ciaran Sheehan, rookie, 25
Kade Simpson, free agent, 32
Clem Smith, 20
Zac Tuohy, 26
Jason Tutt, 25
Dillon Viojo-Rainbow, 20
Mark Whiley, 23
Cameron Wood, rookie, 29
Matthew Wright, 26

Armfield, Wright, Everitt and Touhy far from safe (Touhy mainly for his high trade value as opposed to ability, or lack there of)

I expect us to lock in Simpson and Casboult for the futcha

Not sure why we would have drafted Wright if we thought of getting rid of him after 1 season, especially given he has played really well. The others i agree.

People de-listing or trading Armfield annoy the shit out of me.

That's not nice. It's true but it isn't nice. :)
Why on earth would we be so keen to unload Armfield? No reason at all given how many we have going out.

Just thinking that we'll be hearing a lot of these terms in the near future: Coachable, Football IQ, Good on both sides of his body, Natural leader.
May just be some of the attributes that we'll be looking for, in players coming into the club.

What would be the point of trading out a heart n soul player who is not on big bucks anyway. That's as dumb as Melbourne delisting James McDonald stupid ass thinking right there, that shit sets clubs backwards

Cameron or Hogan would be very easy to understand. Boyd is a long way from a sure bet as a future elite KPF. Only very fleeting glimpses so far.
Yep, I think people are getting seduced a little by the forner number 1 pick tag.
He may well become a quality kpf but to date he's close to the highest paid player in he comp having done sfa.
The desire to recruit him is a little confusing tbh.

if we had got tomlinson last trade period he was gone. last player signed and given a one year deal. why would it be any different this year? right or wrong that was the clubs thinking and i cannot see it changing. we are rebuidling and lots of players will be moved on
