Being an AFL player isn't hard work? I know it's a dream 'job' for lots of these guys but they have the risk of injury, or just not being good enough - and then it's over. Not the most stable career.

That age range is still when the brain is developing - it's a fact that young people find it harder managing emotions, handling risks etc. There's a reason why car rental companies don't usually rent out to under 25's (if they do it's pricey)

Is it a douche being a douche? Possible. It's silly to pretend that hard working, productive members of society in that age range don't mess up sometimes too.

There's no excuse for it - he has to take responsibility for his actions, sometimes there's other factors that come into it though. The fact he hasn't been in trouble before and that he's young. If he does it again he'll be a certified douche.
Spot on.

No the rule is you can't slam us on our clubs method of dealing with club issues & disciplining as your mob has just sweeped issues under the carpet in the past
I'm well aware what he did was idiotic and needed repercussions - we addressed the issue straight away, held a presser, consulted with the AFL & AFLPA and disciplined accordingly on top of what is to come from the police

And how did the Port board react to these incidents at the time? Do you think it was similar to how they reacted to Impey?

If by straight away you mean after 15 hours and telling blatant lies to minimize the seriousness of the impact to your club, then yes.
Your clubs punishment of Impey is also a joke, but whatever I'd rather he played for you.

There's no rule saying that to my knowledge.

Thompson was an idiot and should have known better, never knew another person got injured. $50 fine was a joke. The club should have gone harder on him. See - I'm not 'my club', I can think for myself and don't defend every single little thing it does or doesn't do.

Heard from a player who wasn't there but has obviously spoken to players who were at the party. Impey was absolutely smashed as expected. The club held an emergency meeting on Sunday afternoon with all of the players. It doesn't sound like the players were too forthcoming at the meeting though.

Why did Kracker get 6 weeks for being king hit and Impey 1 for hitting 4 cars, fleeing and then hiding?

About as forthcoming as Port were with the police by delaying handing himself in until after he had sobered up.

Krakeour was on an alcohol ban as he was rehabilitating from an injury - so completely disregarded club induced ban therefore harsher penalty
Impey is more of a criminal matter and will deal with the consequences from the police on top of what the club has decided as a fair punishment...noone outside the club would know all details etc

What was the port boards opinion of us suspending Atkins and Crouch for one match for breaking curfew? I bet they applauded us for giving these boys the type of punishment that should only be reserved for drunk drivers who flee the scene of the crime after smashing up 4 cars.

I wasn't personally responsible for my club's actions. Nice try though ;)

Why did it need to be mentioned then?

It was mentioned externally to this forum so naturally it was discussed here. There are two issues here - the first is why Jarman might have made this very poor decision, and the second is what repercussions there should be. The father's death was used as an explanation as to why Jarman might be in a frame of mind to make such a poor decision. It wasn't used to try to argue the repercussions should be lessened.

because they hid him from the police so they couldn't do a proper investigation.

Meh. Instances like these happen to all AFL clubs but given how much your mob carry on when it's one of our players stuffing up, you can suck it up now the shoe is on the other foot. It's what AFL supporters do: give shit to one another.

As for "addressed the issue straight away" lol - instructing a player not to go to the cops straight away and wait until he's sober the next morning, when you fully well know they are looking for him, then saying he ran off due to his phone being in his car (which makes no sense) isn't addressing the issue up front.
