My first phantom ever so I really don't know what I'm talking about but I'm bored and thought this could bring up some discussion. Footy season is finally here!

Hey I am not much better so this is a good list.. Just surprised that Jeremy Goddard isn't a top 10.. touted as a similar ruck to Grundy who went top 10..

Grundy went at 18. Last of the high drafted rucks. Teams see more value in ruckmen later draft or after they've matured at state level for a few years.

Goddard is an exceptional talent, very Grundy like in development and potential - I have him going around 19.

Would have thought with Curnow and McKay they would be set... I would rather plug that aging backline if I was them and take the best defender available to support Weitering.
No guarantee that either will be stars you can never have too many good forwards they could just as easily get a good defender with a later pick defenders are easier to pick up

There are a few key factors to look at in a prospect, in my opinion each with similar importance. Endurance (new interchange rule will male this more important), Football IQ (decision making, awareness, skills etc. Natural ability is super important IMO) and Athletic factors (Height/length for position, leaping ability, speed, agility). I personally look closely at ability to win contested ball, height, agility and natural ability for midfielders. I find it interesting that in the AFL wingspan isn't spoken about nearly as much as in NBA circles. Wingspan and leap makes up for everything when someone appears short. Either way, the best tall forwards will always work their way to the top of draft boards. Predicting Battle to go top 3 if his year justifies it. Ainsworth is one I really like and whilst he isn't overly tall his natural ability is super and his marking ability suggests he has a great leap. Should go top 3-5. Key defenders often don't justify early selection and last year Weitering was a big exception. He has potential to be the best key defender in the comp within a year or two. Personally can't see Berry going that high bit will need to see more of him. Macreadie is also an exception because I can see him being a midfielder and one of the top 3 in the draft. Jonty Scharenberg is a favourite of mine. Good first effort though! Always remember, a good Key forward will go top 3, as will the very best midfielders and shorter guys tend to get overlooked. Key defenders often end up going around 15-20. Caleb Daniel is the shortest player in the comp measuring below 170cm so he was picked in the 40's but he has elite endurance and elite ball use, only lacked the elite athletic factors so got overlooked! Because he covers nearly everything else he looks like he will be one of the steals of the draft!

No Mention of the 19 yr old Foley from the Jets, great practice match form and around 30 touches first round.

Love your work TJ Hendricks. Never noticed your phantom draft before but I'll be sure to bookmark it for 2016. You obviously do a lot of research and are understanding of the needs at each club

As for the Eagles hopefully we can snag a quality small forward early in the draft and develop him there. Not as a midfield / forward but just a small forward would be ideal.

A tall forward later in the draft would be ideal also as I'm notsure what plans the club has in place for Matthew Allen (2015 draft) than there are some father son picks to consider later in the draft in Jake Waterman, Zain Sumich and possibly Jordan Matera.

Thank you for the kind words. I'll be keeping my eye on the WAFL this year especially hard. They have some intriguing prospects. There are a few overagers that intrigue as well and Matera is one of them.

Thank you again.

Good insight and Great effort :thumbsu:
Luv the GCFC finishing on top of the Hawks implication. :rainbow:
And GCFC still get 3 in the Top 20 as Premiers:eek:

From a CFC perspective can see why we would trade pick #1-2 to GWS for 2 lower first round picks as talent looks so even, and it would give GWS 4 picks in the top 20 if we trade them enough points for academy picks. I like your selections to CFC with #2 (Ainsworth) and #22 (Gallucci is going to be good), but we may be able to get 1. Battle, 2. Powell-Pepper or Brodie and 3. Gallucci if we trade with GWS:cool:.

Gws don't need another interstate number 1 pick player when we have macreadie, setterfield, Sproule, Mutch, Byrne, highmore and Owen-auburn on our radar in the academy.

Also the club has publicly stated that they have cut back in our scouting department as we are focusing on the academy

But GWS want better picks than GCFC to get ahead, so the extra pick in the top 20 would mean GWS win another draft year.

Defence looks pretty sound for carlton's future with weitering, plowman and hopefully Jesse glass-mckasker. After loading up on key forwards last draft this year we will be chasing hard for midfielders.

Gold Coast will spend a lot of points on Bowes and scheer. Also losing 2 first round picks with heavy points currency for a singular pick is not smart for our position. Also your potential pick 1 wouldn't be as useful for us as say the pies potential pick 4 that we already have along with our Geelong and our own first rounder. Not to mention we already have 2 second round selections and will still be active in trading out non essential players again this year for more currency.

I think SPS will be more beneficial to Carlton than to us.

SOS wouldn't trade out pick 1 as well

We're not going to finish last

I'm only basing it off ladder predictor but my judgement says Brisbane end up with 3 wins and Essendon, Carlton and Port on 4 wins. A lot can change over the next 19 rounds but.

More to the point I was trying to make but, what are your thoughts on Brisbane's entrance into the 2016 draft and the possibility of Petrevski - Seton becoming a Lion?

I think Seton is awesome and would love him at the Lions but I think we're more likely to win 6 to 8 games see us winning a few home games this year and Allison most likely will be our first pick

Would love SPS at CFC, but I think SOS has already flagged interest in trading pick #1-2 for two later first round picks & players.

i.e.. GWS could draft SPS, Harrison Macreadie, Will Setterfield, Connor Byrne, Zac Sproule, Kobe Mutch, etc. to keep improving list quality plus remove the go home factor with many best academy kids (WIN-WIN).

What CFC get would be interesting but if GWS needs to clear the risky/non-best 22 players I would put my hand up for a swap of #1, #19, #37 and #50(Bulldogs) for #6, #10, Tomlinson, Ahern (knee), and a KPP that either wants out or they do not rate but SOS does. CFC have room on our list to take a risk on quality players like Ahern getting over his knee IMO and two new quality mids would be gold (although we will always regret not having SPS).

GWS list already looks awesome but if they can improve it with high quality talent like SPS they are more likely to win a flag IMO.

GCFC may also like getting SPS, bit like getting another G. Ablett?

Venables will be the bolter this year, really seems to be hitting his straps with the Jets, went down and watched vs QLD and jeez he looked good.

I acknowledge that GWS is in a position to trade up, but your enthusiasm for such a trade is very much with the required Carlton rebuild in mind. #1 may well get SPS, but IMV he's a risk coming from far north of WA (as I understand it). So, trading two of GWS's first round picks that otherwise gets two NSW kids who are highly ranked, instead gets a 'gun' kid who might just as easily go home in two years. Whoever is assessed as #1, if Carlton offered GWS a trade they should consider it, but this year the draft seems fairly even talent-wise at the top of the draft, so if Collingwood finish down the order, their pick traded to GWS might get someone of equivalent talent without giving up another pick anyway. I won't be silly enough to try to second guess GWS's drafting strategy, but I will say that I would be very surprised if GWS didn't stick to NSW talent from its academy for the second year in a row. Depending on any rule changes by AFL house, more likely to do same as last year & trade down for additional picks. Carlton (or other clubs willing to trade and offering value) could benefit from that approach in getting an extra draft pick in 2016.

We have no scouts in WA and SA this year. PHIL still scouting vic but the club has openly announced its intentions to stay local again.

The top 5 draft talent looks about even so losing a plethora of points to secure a kid from far northern wa which has a history of players going home doesn't sound like a good strategy

Fremantle will finish bottom 3. Hope we use that pick on Petrevski - seton, or Josh Battle.
Could be a reset year for Freo.

Finish low, fix Fyfe, get in Hooker (FA), McCarthy (GWS - trade your second pick and next years first or second), SPS (midfielder) and maybe a few other role players (ruck?) and have a real crack with a better draw in 2017.

I know you could also use one of Jones or Casboult from CFC - but there value rose this week:$
