Did we name a ruck as emergency most weeks last year? I had a feeling that Nankervis was frequently named in the emergencies.

I wouldn't worry too much.

They are just rotating emergency duties as 1 or 2 of those named emergencies won't play. Hiscox and Nankervis didn't play last week, they are back in the reserves this week. BJ and Derickx won't play reserves this week.

For a team to have any chance of winning a premiership, the most important trait is that it must be able to reassess situations at any given time throughout the course of a game. Challenges will come from the opponent, whether a bottom dweller or whether a top team. The true measure comes not if but when we are challenged by them & how we respond. We weren't challenged last week because the game played out on our terms. Nathan Buckley cannot coach because when his main plan fails, he can't adapt to get back in the game.

I believe we can but I don't believe Carlton are capable of flicking a switch to change things up at this stage. So we should win this game comfortably but not without a little heartburn when Bolton's positive coaching style & message lifts his team to the occasional highs he demands from them.

It's when they come off their highs throughout the match where our 'coaches', both in the box & on field senior players, must take supremacy if we are to be truly considered a genuine premiership contender. I think it won't be this year but the foundations of our next p'ship team are going to be laid in front of eyes over the next few years.

It will be interesting to see how the Hawks handle these next few challenging weeks without some of their keys. Again I refer back to our final against Freo when we were missing critical players to our system.

No Hodge, Roughead, Hill for Hawks against West Coast at home. If they lose, all the excuses under the sun will be made for them.

No Parker, Buddy, Smith, Jack for us against Freo away in the final last year, we then lose Reid early & we nearly pinched it. We've thus been written off for season 2016 prior to round 1!

We'll go ok folks but go easy on your expectations until we have at least played every team once.

Derickx will be in for Franklin sharing ruck with Sinclair, releasing Tippett to permanent forward. Why else would they even bother naming him ? He is certainly not named to play at Full Back if Richards does not come up. Another runner is required on the a fast deck at Etihad if you are going to make token bench selections. Franklin is under A cloud with that Shoulder no doubt. If this is the case, a correct attitude still wins this game comfortably. 25-30 points.
Oh ! And Tippett actually going forward and holding a mark.

This is a very possible scenario as Buddy may be rested.
Makes sense as D Rex is at best a ruckman & a ruckman only.

Didn't they lose Gibson , Cyril , lake , Mitchell and there coach for an extended period of time and still flogged us that year in the GF

They did but they were all there in the GF were they not!
They also played some of the weakest teams in that cluster of 6 wins when Bolton was in charge.

I have also gone on record saying that the only reason we were able to play in the GF that year was because Buddy won 4 games for us off his own boot & had we lost those games we may have just made the 8.

Let's see how they go these next few weeks. I've no doubt that they will finish top four & challenge again for the flag but it won't be without Hodge & Mitchell there.

Think we'll win pretty easily, just hope doesn't get ugly for them as like what Bolton doing there and brother had it hard enough barracking for them over the years lol.

I gather the ressies odds of a win just improved?

Couldnt care less about murphy or gibbs, cripps is the one we need to stop. Not sure who we out to him. Too big and strong for the likes of cunningham.

I would be temted to try rampe on him however he may be needed down back. Id also think about heeney . Not exactlya tagging role but rather education

Very short term thinking to only target one player no matter how good he is. Footy is a team game. Take our team, if Joey doesn't get you Parks or Mitch or Heeney or Kizza or Hannas will. If coaches looked at it your way there would be plenty of free players running around raking up of disposals. Don't negate the influence of either Murphy or Gibbs. They have both been pretty good in the past and under a new coach seem to be reinvigorated. I never just pick one player and say 'this is the bloke we stop'. certainly to contain him would be good but it isn't the be all and end all. The be all and end all of the stoppages and centre bounces is set ups. Having the right set ups to make sure players like Cripps are not advantaged, in fact to disadvantage them severely.

Cyggy is a swan too. Domestic violence is a bizarre charge against an animal.

Yes and Cyggie is only a young Swan. A Male Swan is a Cob, Female a Pen but all young no matter what sex are Cygnets, hence Cyggie. So how could such a young animal beat up an old woman? That would be tragic and unpalatable. never happen. Cyggie is too well behaved for that so kids 'No Cyggie will not hurt Navy Nina even though she is the enemy this week. He/She will let our footy team do the work for him/her.

I feel everyone is reading into my initial comment too much. :P

Final Sunday teams:

Carl v Syd Inter; C Curnow, Phillips, Wright, Lamb.
Emerg; Byrne, Buckley, Rowe.
Thomas, C Curnow in for Rowe, Buckley.

Syd Swans v Carlton Interchange; Hewett, Papley, Robinson, Towers.
Emergencies; Derickx, B Jack, Rose.
Richards in for Talia.

Rowe out is interesting, they are going with one less tall defender.

Weitering (195)and Jamison (193) are both talls whereas White at 190 is more than capable of playing on the third tall, in our case Towers or Joey. I don't know if they thought three over 193 was one too many or if Rowe was injured.

We went as I thought just with Teddy. couldn't justify changing anything else.

Very surprised to see Rowe dropped. Weitering is a gun but it's a big ask to possibly have to play on the best forward in the league in only your second game of AFL. Buddy and Tippett really should monster those guys in terms of height and strength but I guess we'll see.
